1923 Season 1 Star Teases Alexandra’s Life-Changing Choices

Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for 1923 season 1, episode 5.1923 season 1 has returned from its mid-season hiatus, and show star Julia Schlaepfer has teased Alexandra’s upcoming life-changing choices. 1923 is the second spinoff story in the Yellowstone universe after 1883, following the Dutton family as they take on new sets of challenges in the early 20th century. The show is expected to continue chronicling the family’s status throughout the Western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression. Julia Schlaepfer plays Alexandra in the series, who falls for Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar), the son of Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Hellen Mirren).

The end of 1923 episode 4 set Alexandra and Spencer on their long trip home to America, and that journey will see Alexandra make life-changing choices. In an interview with The Wrap, Julia Schlaepfer teased that her Alexandra character will come to realize the reality of her drastically altered situation through the rest of season 1. 1923 season 2 has been confirmed, so while their journey to Yellowstone may soon conclude, Schlaepfer’s comments suggest that the upcoming events of season 1 could have lasting impacts on the relationship. See what Schlaepfer had to say about their journey below:

I still don’t even fully know how she fits into the whirlwind. You know what I mean? There’s still a lot to uncover about what happens when they get home. When you first meet her, she has this naive quality about the type of adventure she wants. And I don’t think she realizes just how dangerous it is, and how much effort and fear, it’s going to have and take. We watch her become this pillar of strength for Spencer in a way that, I don’t even think she realized she was going to be and he realized she was going to be. And we watch her go from wanting this like adventure and this love story to being like, “Okay, it’s time to hunker down and figure this out, because we’re either going to live or die, and I want to live. And so we’ve got to make it happen.” We watch her toughen up in that way to prepare herself for what’s to come.

How Spencer & Alex’s Journey Could Change Their Relationship

1923 Season 1 Star Teases Alexandra’s Life-Changing Choices

After the long hiatus, 1923 main characters Spencer and Alexandra were reintroduced in episode 5, showing them already endeavoring on their journey back to Yellowstone. Issues have already popped up, as well. With there being no boat that could take them straight to America, the couple was forced to do some problem-solving together, but through the transportation drama, Spencer and Alexandra were again forced to recommit to each other after Spencer tried to get Alexandra to America through London, though her voyage would have to be delayed. Alexandra caught him, though, an forced him to admit that he needs her at his side.

Spencer and Alexandra’s journey has created plenty of changes in their relationship, and it has hardly even started. There’s already some evidence of the honeymoon stage coming to an abrupt ending now that the danger of their situation has steadily increased. Alexandra initially comes off as a naive person who doesn’t realize the level of danger that came along with her hopes of joining Spencer in his travels, but the dynamics of 1923‘s key couple have since changed as their relationship is just as much of a co-dependent survival relationship as it is one of romance.

Alexandra’s story should see her observe a lot of what is going on around her and continue to become more engaged in their collective decisions. Her knowledge of the then-new-age tech was shown through her radio suggestion to Spencer in episode 5, another example of her proving a useful survival and traveling companion. Spencer and Alexandra’s relationship is going in a direction that will force the two characters into uncomfortable situations, allowing viewers to judge how they act under mounting pressure. The question now is whether their love is strong enough to hold them together throughout 1923‘s run.
