16 Best Frasier Cameos That Aren’t From Cheers

There were hundreds of famous cameos throughout the run of Frasier, but a much smaller number of them were not Cheers characters or radio callers. The original Frasier series ran for 11 seasons, from 1993 through 2004. Over those 11 years, a flurry of famous faces encountered the titular radio psychiatrist.

The most prevalent cameos in the beloved sitcom were Frasier‘s celebrity callers on his radio show. However, most main and some supporting characters from Cheers also appeared in singular episodes throughout the show. Additionally, there were some other actors who had cameos in Frasier that didn’t fit either category.

16 Robbie Coltrane

As Michael Moon In Frasier season 11, episodes 23 & 24, “Goodnight Seattle”

Robbie Coltrane was a highly respected Scottish actor most famous for playing Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies. Before signing onto that franchise, Coltrane appeared as Michael Moon, one of Daphne’s eight brothers, in the two-part Frasier series finale. The character appeared previously played by a different actor, but this version of Michael was notable for having an incomprehensibly thick Lancashire accent.

15 Richard E. Grant

As Stephen Moon in Frasier season 11, episodes 23 & 24, “Goodnight Seattle”

Richard E. Grant also appears in “Goodnight Seattle,” playing another one of Daphne’s brothers, Stephen Moon. Grant’s most well-known role is likely Withnail in the 1987 film Withnail and I, though he also more recently earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me? opposite Melissa McCarthy. Like Michael Moon, Stephen appeared previously on Frasier played by a different actor.

Patrick Stewart is famed for his roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the X-Men movies. However, he also appeared in Frasier season 11, episode 3, “The Doctor is Out,” as Alistair Burke, an acclaimed theater director with whom Frasier engages in a brief relationship. Interestingly, there is a lot of crossover between Frasier and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Sarah Silverman has a highly memorable cameo in Frasier season 11, episode 7 “Maris Returns,” as Jane, a patient of Frasier’s. She famously cannot stop laughing during her session because Frasier once called her sister “M’lady” during an intimate moment. Silverman is a highly respected comedian and actor, with her talents for both displayed in her Frasier appearance.

12 Linda Hamilton

As Laura in Frasier season 4, episode 23, “Odd Man Out”

Linda Hamilton is best known as one of the stars of the Terminator franchise, and she made a surprising cameo in Frasier season 4, episode 23 “Odd Man Out.” Hamilton plays Laura, a woman who accidentally leaves several messages on Frasier’s answering machine. This prompts Frasier to go to the airport and meet her, partly so she isn’t stranded, and partly in the hopes it might instigate a romance.

11 Laura Linney

As Charlotte Connor in five episodes of Frasier season 11

Best known now for playing Wendy Byrde on Ozark, Laura Linney is a three-time Oscar-nominated actor who has starred in numerous roles across both stage and screen. Linney took a regular role during Frasier‘s 11th season, playing the main character’s love interest, Charlotte Connor. The character first appeared in episode 18, “Match Game,” as the owner of a match-making service Frasier signs up for, and then she appeared in most episodes afterward until the finale. The original Frasier ends on a cliffhanger, as the title character leaves Seattle to pursue a relationship with Charlotte.

10 Michael Keaton

As Blaine Sternin in Frasier season 9, episode 16, “Wheels of Fortune”

Michael Keaton is best known for playing Bruce Wayne, and the titular superhero, in the Tim Burton Batman movies. However, Keaton also had a memorable role in Frasier season 9, episode 16, “Wheels of Fortune,” as Blaine Sternin, the main character’s ex-brother-in-law — Lilith Sternin’s brother. Keaton is particularly memorable in the role, delivering a hilarious portrayal of a confidence trickster who creates chaos for Frasier and his family.

As Avery McManus in Frasier season 10, episode 20, “Farewell, Nervosa”

John Hannah has starred in many movies and television shows, but perhaps his most famous role was as Jonathan in the 1999 remake of The Mummy and its sequels. Hannah has a cameo role in Frasier season 10, episode 20, “Farewell, Nervosa,” as Avery McManus. The character is introduced as Frasier’s accountant, but soon he strikes up a romance with Frasier’s colleague and subsequent love interest, Julia.

Another person hilariously playing himself in Frasier was the American hero John Glenn. He was the third American astronaut in space and the first to orbit the Earth. He appears in season 8, episode 16 “Docu.Drama,” as the narrator for Roz’s documentary about space, and he inadvertently admits to knowledge of extraterrestrial life.

As Coach Fuller in Frasier season 10, episode 15, “Trophy Girlfriend”

Bob Hoskins is a film legend perhaps most recognizable for Who Framed Roger Rabbit? where he played Eddie Valiant. Hoskins has a riotous cameo in Frasier season 10, episode 15, “Trophy Girlfriend.” After Frasier starts dating a gym teacher, he suddenly starts hallucinating her as his former gym teacher (Hoskins). This leads to several brilliant scenes where Frasier tries to navigate dating her and introducing her to his family all while envisioning her as Hoskins’s Coach Fuller.

As Marie in Frasier season 6, episode 5, “First Do No Harm”

Teri Hatcher rose to fame starring as Lois Lane in the television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Later, she had a cameo role in Frasier season 6, episode 5, “First Do No Harm.” Hatcher plays Marie, a woman who is dating Frasier, but they are both far more interested in unraveling her psychological issues.

Brian Cox is a multi-award-winning actor, lauded for his roles in both cinema, television, and theater. Amazingly, Cox agreed to make a cameo appearance in Frasier as Daphne’s father, Harry Moon. In Frasier season 9, episode 23, “The Guilt Trippers,” Niles travels to Manchester to retrieve Harry, who is drinking heavily in a dingy bar. In episode 24, “Moons Over Seattle,” Harry is reunited with his wife, Gertrude, but he promptly decides to return to England alone.

Rosie Perez is a celebrated actor and dancer who starred in Do the Right Thing and White Men Can’t Jump. Perez, who’d previously made a vocal cameo as a caller in season 2, returned for a memorable on-screen cameo in Frasier season 11, episode 22, “Crock Tales,” when she played Lizbeth. The character is introduced to Frasier by Roz as a potential romantic prospect, but neither Lizbeth nor Frasier is interested. Unfortunately for both of them, they end up accidentally glued to one another. Perez’s cameo is brief, but it’s Frasier‘s most notable.
