As the series’ leads, Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won carry Queen of Tears with ease, depicting the range of emotional highs and lows necessary for their characters’ crumbling marriage. They are supported by familiar K-drama actors, such as Park Sung-hoon and Kwak Dong-yeon, whose previous work in K-drama series acts as great follow-ups to watch after Queen of Tears.

Lee Joo-bin is looking up.

In both Queen of Tears and She Would Never Know, the romance involving Lee Joo-bin’s characters is secondary to the leading couple. She Would Never Know is a workplace romance that doesn’t lean too far into the fairytale aspect of some K-dramas. Instead, She Would Never Know succeeds in allowing its characters to be realistic and flawed.

Focusing on a relationship between a senior and junior employee at a cosmetic company, the K-drama stars a K-pop artist, Rowoon, as the junior intern, Chae Hyun-seung. She Would Never Know includes plenty of chemistry and heartwarming romance that K-dramas have become known for. Hyun-woo’s mother in Queen of Tears is played by Hwang Young-hee who plays another motherly figure in While You Were Sleeping. Hwang Young-hee plays Yoon Moon-sun, a widowed mother who is struggling to run a restaurant and is unaware of her imminent death. Given While You Were Sleeping includes a mix of genres, it’s a recommended K-drama for beginners.

While You Were Sleeping chronicles the adventures of three individuals who can see into the future via their dreams. One of these characters is Nam Hong-joo (Bae Suzy) who is repeatedly dreaming of Moon-sun, her mother’s, death. Though Hong-joo is aware her mother is going to die, her dreams don’t allow her to see beyond that, leaving the timing of her death a painful mystery.

One of these individuals is Kim Tan (Lee Min-ho), a wealthy heir to the Jeguk Group.

Tan is engaged to Yoo Rachel but ends up falling in love with Cha Eun-sang (Park Shin-hye) while in the United States. This causes tension between Yoo Rachel and Eun-sang, with the former attempting multiple times to break the new couple apart. My Strange Hero

Starring Kwak Dong-yeon as Oh Se-ho

Kwak Dong-yeon is looking forward with a serious expression on his face.

Previously known for his roles as a charming protagonist, Kwak Dong-yeon played the antagonist, Oh Se-ho, in My Strange Hero. The beginning of My Strange Hero sees its three main characters at Seolsong High, where a melancholy Se-ho frames Kang Bok-soo (Yoo Seung-ho) for an accident, leading to the latter’s expulsion. A time jump then shows Se-ho as the chairman of Seolsong and Bok-soo eager to seek revenge for being framed.

Dong-yeon masters the conniving characteristics needed for Se-ho, inviting audiences to root against him and become invested in the story. My Strange Hero has a pleasant pace, taking the necessary time to build up its characters. Similarly to other K-dramas, My Strange Hero‘s depiction of classmate dynamics reflects issues that are specific to Korean society, but familiar to all audiences.
