12 Below Deck Deckhands We Always Forget About

With Bravo’s Below Deck season 11 in full swing with some memorable crew members, it’s the perfect time to take a look back at the franchise’s 12 least memorable Deckhands. This season of the long-running Bravo series introduced a whole new crew of returning and fresh faces, led by Captain Kerry Titheradge, aboard the mega yacht St. David. Captain Kerry replaced Captain Lee Rosbach, who used to helm this vessel and is joined by returning cast members Chief Stew Fraser Olender and Deckhand-turned-Bosun Ben Willoughby.

Below Deck season 11 cast’s returning deck crew member Ben, viewers may remember from his boatmance with Camille Lamb last season. Kyle Stillie is another deckhand and a new face joining this season’s crew. Another fresh face is Marie “Sunny” Marquis, the only female deckhand this season. Jennice Ontiveros made history as the first female deckhand on Below Deck season 2. Though Jennice was involved in a lot of the drama aboard superyacht Ohana, she only lasted one season and is therefore often forgotten. The former yachtie had her share of struggles as the only woman working on deck during the season and paved the way for future female deckhands on the series.

Below Deck Season 6 & 7

Brian de Saint Pern appeared on Below Deck season 6 and 7 as the lead deckhand. The last viewers saw Brian, he was entangled in a boatmance with third stew Courtney Skippon. At first, she was unsure about getting involved with Brian, but she gave the deckhand a chance, and the pair had a low-key romance for the rest of the charter season. Brian and Courtney ended the season as friends, but, at the reunion a few months later, Courtney accused Brian for sending her “venomous” and “aggressive” text messages.

Sydney Zaruba

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2

Sydney Zaruba was a deckhand on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, alongside the rest of the Parsifal III crew and Captain Glenn Shephard. She became known for taking her deckhand job seriously as the yacht sailed around Croatia. Although Sydney was relatively new to super yachts, she had years of experience working on the water before joining the Below Deck franchise. Sydney’s parents lived on a sailboat in her youth, and she still helps them run their family charter boat, The Freedom. Sydney was also embroiled in an awkward boatmance triangle with Alli Dore and Gary King.

Max Hagley

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 2

Max Hagley was a deckhand who appeared in Below Deck Mediterranean season 2. The last time viewers saw Max, he was in Croatia on the legendary Sirocco superyacht. He worked alongside fellow deckhands Malia White and Bobby Giancola, as well as bosun Wesley Walton. Max was one of the franchise’s more lovable yachties, even though he hasn’t returned since season 2, and has been mostly forgotten.

Deckhand Kelsie Goglia was one of the new faces who joined Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3, along with fellow deckhand, Tom Pearson, stews Gabriela Barragan and Ashley Marti, and Chef Marcos Spaziani. Besides the newcomers onboard, season 3 included several returning crew members, including chief steward Daisy Kelliher, first mate Gary King, chief engineer Colin MacRae, and Captain Glenn Shephard.

Emile Kotze

eckhand Emile Kotze was a crew member on Below Deck season 3, alongside Captain Lee Rosbach. Emile grew up in South Africa and had big dreams of working in the boating industry, so he left his hometown when he was 20 years old to pursue them. With nothing to his name but his new skipper’s license, Emile set out to make his career dreams come true. After moving to the U.S., Emile worked as a mate and then a deckhand on multiple ships, and he traveled around the world.

Jamie Jason

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 3

amie Jason was a deckhand who appeared on Below Deck Mediterranean season 3, alongside bosun Conrad Empson and deckhands Joao Franco and Colin Macy-O’Toole. Jamie had a unique experience during the charter season. After third stew Kasey Cohen fell ill due to seasickness, Jamie had to work for the ship’s interior team for several charters. Shortly after Jamie returned to the deck crew, she fell ill as well.

Kyle Dixon

Below Deck Seasons 4 & 5

Deckhand Kyle Dixon worked on Below Deck seasons 4 and 5 and was known for his romantic relationship troubles, strong British accent, and colorful past. A former British soldier, Kyle worked as a traveling bartender before he decided to work to transition to a career on ocean vessels. Kyle first joined Below Deck season 4 midway through the season, as a replacement deckhand.

However, he was quickly embroiled in relationship drama on the yacht as he pursued fellow crew member Sierra Storm, despite having a long-time girlfriend. His inability to handle rejection and sometimes abusive treatment of fellow crew members made him less popular as time went on.

Chris Brown

Chris Brown was a deckhand during Below Deck season 5, alongside Lead Deckhand Nico Scholly and fellow Deckhands Baker Manning and Bruno Duarte. The goofy-but-lovable Chris was sadly known for drinking tequila and taking naps, so Captain Lee fired him part way through the season.

According to Bravo, during an interview on the After Deck podcast, Chris said, “I don’t think I was given the tools to succeed and I just kind of ended up taking the fall for you know a couple other, a lot of other, shortcomings on the boat.”

Michael Gilman

Below Deck Adventure

Michael Gilman joined the crew of the spin-off series Below Deck Adventure as a deckhand. He will be working under Below Deck‘s Captain Kerry Titheradge’s command as they charter a yacht through the icy waters of Norway. Michael is a Long Island native who spent much of his twenties on the water and traveling the world. The Below Deck Adventure star has explored places like Germany, South Africa, and Norway. Michael was fairly green in the yachting world and was often in over his head on Below Deck Adventure.

Ross Inia

Below Deck Season 6

Ross Inia started as a deckhand in Below Deck Season 6, working under Bosun Chandler Brooks, who failed to impress Captain Lee Rosback with his work ethic. Chandler was terrible at his job and even dropped a guest in the water at one point during a charter. Captain Lee eventually had enough and fired Chandler, promoting Ross to bosun due to his experience (via Bravo.) Ross impressed Captain Lee with his hard work but was never brought back for another Below Deck charter.

According to In Touch, Ross had a run-in with the law. According to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office booking blotter records obtained by In Touch, Ross was charged with one count of battery on an officer, one count of disorderly intoxication in a public place causing a disturbance, and crimes against a public servant.

Shane Coopersmith

Bravo’s Below Deck season 8 featured deckhand Shane Coopersmith, and was rife with drama, thanks to the crew and the impending COVID-19 pandemic. The public health crisis added extra tension when it came to the crew and their relationships on and off the boat. Shane was the most relaxed member of the deck crew. While the rest of the crew were seen working hard, Shane was often seen relaxing and even got caught taking naps during his workday. Nonetheless, Shane tried his best and would shine occasionally, but it was not enough for Captain Lee. The final straw came when Shane slept through an alarm he set for an early shift on the ship.
