11 Below Deck Franchise Deckhands With The Worst Attitude

11 Below Deck Franchise Deckhands With The Worst Attitude

Below Deck has featured some of the worst crew members since its premiere in 2013, some of whom have been deckhands. Bravo loves to cast young individuals with unique talents for their iconic reality TV franchise. However, it sometimes selects the wrong people with the most menacing attitude problems.

The latest examples are Natalya Scudder and Kyle Viljoen. The duo debuted on Below Deck Mediterranean together as stews. Initially, they were good friends, but their relationship turned toxic. They became rivals and misbehaved with one another, leading Natalya to quit in the middle of the season. Like Natalya and Kyle, Hannah Ferrier was another former Below Deck Stew with some attitude issues. To make matters worse, Malia White reported her for hiding illegal Valium on the yacht. Captain Sandy had to fire Hannah for her behavior.

The Below Deck franchise has featured a few terrible deckhands as well. One example is Dane Jackson, who appeared in Below Deck season 3. Like most people with attitude problems, Dane had his fair share of issues. He had a drinking problem and wasn’t friendly to his cast members. During one post-charter vacation, Dane got so drunk and aggressive that Bosun Eddie Lucas had to escort him away. The situation got so bad that Captain Lee Rosbach had nothing else he could do for him apart from firing him and telling him to go home.

10 Max Salvador

Below Deck Med Season 8

Max Salvador from Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 was another lousy deckhand with an ego. While he initially seemed like a decent guy with a nice personality, things became clearer when he got to know the crew better and started showing off his repulsive side. Max complained a lot about not having enough breaks in one of the episodes. He argued with his Bosun Luka Brunton and couldn’t stop himself from spreading negativity. Max crossed the line when he poked Captain Sandy about the lack of food because he didn’t want to eat what was available.

9 Parker McCown

Parker McCown was among the most annoying deckhands on Below Deck Sailing Yacht. He was part of season 1, where he joined Captain Glenn Shephard and the crew on their first adventure to Greece. Parker initially got some sympathy from fans for being a bit supportive of the crew. However, it wasn’t long before he showed his true colors and acted rudely to other cast members like First Officer Paget Berry. Apart from his shenanigans in front of guests, Parker was just too immature. Paget was going to fire him before he quit in episode 12.

8 Nico Scholly

Nico Scholly was promoted throughout his time on Below Deck. He joined Below Deck season 4 as a deckhand and soon became the Senior Deckhand. In Below Deck season 5, he got promoted and became the Lead Deckhand before assuming the role of a Bosun in episode 14. Unfortunately, he was despised by many fans. One reason Nico got a lot of hate was his infidelity. He made out with crew member Brianna Adekeye despite having a girlfriend back home in Chicago. To make matters worse, he made it seem like his girlfriend was insecure.

7 Tom Pearson

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3

Below Deck Sailing Yacht has a history of featuring unlikable cast members like Gary King. However, not many have been as bad as Tom Pearson was during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3. The young deckhand was too irresponsible about his job and didn’t have it in him. He had a drinking problem and often acted meanly towards other crew members like Ashley Marti. During one episode, he was on anchor watch and wasn’t keeping an eye on it. Tom was promptly fired by Captain Glenn.

Below Deck star Rhylee Gerber was another deckhand with a terrible attitude. She joined the crew in season 6 and later returned for ten episodes in season 7. Rhylee’s biggest problem was that she didn’t have the right attitude towards the other cast members. To make matters worse, she was also overqualified for the job. In one of the episodes, she said she was a Captain in Alaska to show dominance over others, which was embarrassing to watch.

5 Ben “Benny” Crawley

Below Deck Down Under Season 1

Below Deck Down Under has been one of the most interesting Below Deck spin-offs. However, even it has had its fair share of bad apples. Ben “Benny” Crawley, from season 1, also had a terrible attitude. When Benny showed up on Captain Jason’s boat, he butted heads with then-Bosun, Jamie Sayed. Benny also didn’t commit to his job properly and often refused to do the tasks. He also declined Captain Jason’s disco ball helmet, signifying he needed to improve his attitude.

4 Ashton Pienaar

Below Deck Season 6

Ashton Pienaar from Below Deck seasons 6 and 7 gained a lot of sympathy after getting into a scary yacht accident. However, he was still not able to improve his image because of his personality and bad attitude. Viewers disliked Ashton because he lacked skills and mistreated co-workers. He was accused of misogyny because of his preferential treatment towards male crew members. In one of the episodes, Ashton tries to kiss Chief Stew Kate Chastain and later acts rudely toward her. He came off as creepy and is one of the most toxic Below Deck alums.

Some of the worst crew members have appeared on Below Deck Med. In 2022, the spin-off featured Jason Gaskell, the deckhand who upset many viewers. From the first episode, Jason proved he wasn’t ready for the job and lacked experience. Despite that, he showed a big attitude problem and couldn’t work efficiently with his bosuns. Initially, Jason had a problem with Raygan Tyler and didn’t like her. Later, he had similar issues with Storm Smith. Jason didn’t fit in with the others and also misbehaved. In one episode, he told Storm to “f**k off.”

Peter Hunziker was another bad Deckhand on Below Deck Med. He was part of season 5 and was a bit creepy on board. However, it wasn’t just his behavior toward stews that was alarming. He was also terrible outside the show, which viewers discovered later. In 2020, Peter’s racist post surfaced on social media, leading Below Deck producers to act immediately. They had to edit him out of the show, allowing him no chance to garner fame through his reality TV stint. It’s hard to tell if Peter has improved in the last few years.

1 Kyle Dickard

Below Deck Adventure Season 1

While Below Deck Adventure is likely canceled, it gave viewers the worst deckhand in the franchise’s history. Kyle Dickard joined the spin-off’s first and only season and immediately began getting on people’s nerves. He was over-abrasive toward his co-stars and had many problems with his roommate, Nathan Morley. He didn’t flush the toilet, created unnecessary drama, and misbehaved in front of charter guests. The worst thing about Kyle was his lack of concern for following directions. He didn’t want to listen to his seniors, pushing Captain Kerry Titheradge to fire him in episode 3.
