Wednesday may not look like a show that is full of heartwarming moments with the gothic tones and dark mystery genre, but there are surprisingly emotional moments throughout. The hit Netflix series that came out in late 2022 became an instant sensation with record-breaking viewing figures. Jenna Ortega stars as the titular star and eldest child in the Addams Family spin-off, directed by Tim Burton and full of his signature gothic, twisted style throughout.

The series follows Wednesday as she attends the boarding school for outcasts, Nevermore Academy, from sirens to werewolves and everything in between. Seeing Wednesday emotional is heartbreaking, but the joy she feels when Thing’s life is saved quickly warms the moment.

When Wednesday has her birthday, Enid decides to mark the moment and do something special, and, knowing her friend, she leaves Wednesday with a mysterious note pieced together with clippings from a magazine. Wednesday might not appreciate it outwardly, but the gesture from Enid was important to showcase how much she cares for Wednesday.

Enid may be a late bloomer in terms of developing her werewolf powers, but the thing that finally triggers her change comes when Wednesday needs her most. Wednesday is trapped with the Hyde, about to be killed, but Enid transforms into her wolf form and leaps into action, fighting back the Hyde and saving Wednesday. This moment was also huge for Enid, as she had felt distant from her family due to her lack of powers, but having transformed into a werewolf, Enid could finally be fully herself, protecting her friends and getting closer with her family.

While Wednesday initially pushes Enid back, as she is very uncomfortable with physical contact, she looks into her friend’s face, and in a moment of vulnerability, she pulls Enid back in for a warm embrace. This moment is incredibly moving and a huge payoff after the ups and downs of the pair’s relationship throughout season 1.

Earlier in the season, Wednesday is hesitant to get involved in life at Nevermore, but when she and Enid are participating in the Poe Cup, she finds a brief, bright moment of connection. The Poe Cup consists of a canoe relay race between multiple teams who must retrieve a flag from an island and avoid being sunk. Wednesday and her team work together to avoid attempts at sabotage from other teams, and eliminate the competition, ultimately winning the trophy thanks to their ability to work together.

While Wednesday tried to push her mother away and highlight their differences, it’s her mother’s gift that ultimately saves her life.
