10 Villains We’d Like To See In Monolith’s Wonder Woman Game

10 Villains We’d Like To See In Monolith’s Wonder Woman Game

The upcoming Wonder Woman game by Monolith has the potential to do for Diana what the Batman: Arkham games did for the Caped Crusader. A movie can only deliver so many villains before becoming overstuffed while this new game could showcase a plethora of Wonder Woman villains, showing how diverse her rogue gallery is.

From god-like beings of Greek mythology to strange villains straight out of 1950s sci-fi movies, Wonder Woman has faced many foes. This game is said to be embracing a similar style to Monolith’s Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War, thus allowing casual fans to learn about the massive world of Wonder Woman.

Anglette

The Batman: Arkham games had many great villains, and for every iconic villain, they also introduced a more obscure villain. For Wonder Woman, Anglette could fill that role of the lesser-known villain as her presence would establish Wonder Woman as a more veteran hero (especially if Anglette could be seeking revenge for her father).

Anglette is the daughter of Angle Man and both have the ability to twist the environment to any angle they want (making them surprisingly powerful villains). The angle gimmick could easily make for disorienting environmental challenges as well as a unique boss fights.

Devastation

Devastation, or Deva, is essentially a dark mirror of Wonder Woman. She was created by Cronus to be Diana’s antithesis and was molded out of clay with even the exact same set of powers as Wonder Woman but with a dark twist.

This origin sets her up that she could be a perfect pawn for a villain or even the main villain of the game. There is a tragic nature to her story that the game could explore, with Wonder Woman attempting to make peace with Deva.

Genocide

Genocide is to Wonder Woman what Doomsday is to Superman. Genocide is an entity created by a group of Wonder Woman’s foes to literally destroy her. Thanks to her immunity to the Lasso Of Truth, she has nearly succeeded in the past.

With her indestructible nature, Genocide could end up being the final boss of the Wonder Woman game or at least the most difficult one. The players would be pushed to their limit with all that they’ve learned put to the test, similar to harder bosses found in Elden Ring.

Strife

Also known as Eris, Strife is Wonder Woman’s sister and the goddess of chaos. She has an interesting dynamic with Wonder Woman, where she is often a devious nuisance for the hero but has allied with her sister in the right situation.

This dynamic could easily be used in the game with Strife, perhaps giving Diana tasks. However, she could also end up betraying her, which could lead to a boss fight – similar to the Mr. Freeze side mission from Batman: Arkham City.

Giganta

With the ability to grow to massive heights, Giganta has remained an iconic foe for Wonder Woman for many decades. In the game, her powers would make her perfect for an encounter similar to a boss fight from Shadow Of The Colossus, with Wonder Woman climbing up a skyscraper-sized Giganta.

On the other hand, for a more face-to-face encounter, the fight against Giganta could be in a similar vein to the Balrog battles in Monolith’s Shadow Of War. Since Wonder Woman is using the Nemesis system from Shadow Of War, it’s not hard to believe they would reuse some of the boss battle systems.

Silver Swan

If there was any game that could illustrate how Silver Swan would translate to video games well, it is 2018’s God Of War (since there are various battles against Valkyries).

Silver Swan’s aerial attacks would lend themselves perfectly for Wonder Woman’s sword and shield combat, mixed with the Lasso Of Truth. Silver Swan is also a character who has seen several interpretations over the many years so Monolith could reinvent them in many ways to fit their story.

Ares

Much like in the first Gal Gadot movie, Ares is the ideal villain for Wonder Woman’s first outing. He’s often the puppet master behind many threats that Diana faces, he’s a runner-up for being her main rival, and he fits the most for a final fight against Wonder Woman.

On the flip side, Ares could also be an unlikely ally for Wonder Woman. As he rots in Tartarus or whatever prison, Diana could come to her brother for information or assistance, emulating the same kind of dynamic as Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter from The Silence Of The Lambs.

Veronica Cale

In Wonder Woman’s world of gods and monsters, Veronica Cale would be something a bit different. She doesn’t have any powers but she has her wealth and resources (similar to Lex Luthor). Cale could easily play a role similar to Hugo Strange in Arkham City, the villain who assembles Wonder Woman’s villains together.

Veronica Cale, in general, would be refreshing – even as a side quest. Wonder Woman could be dealing with so much mythical and fantasy-based lore that something more technological and contemporary would make a fine distraction.

Cheetah

Wonder Woman and Cheetah at odds with each other in Wonder Woman comics

Every superhero has its nemesis: Superman has Lex Luthor, Batman has the Joker, and The Flash has the Reverse-Flash. For Wonder Woman, it is none other than Barbara Minvera AKA Cheetah. Their rivalry is a tragic one since Barbara and Diana were friends before Barbara became cursed to become the bloodthirsty feline-esque creature.

The game could turn Cheetah into the deadliest enemy with multiple boss fights throughout the story. Having her throughout would also gift-wrap Monolith the chance to explore the romantic undertones between Diana and Minerva. It’s often hinted in the comics that if Barbara hadn’t been cursed, the two could have been lovers, which makes their rivalry even more tragic.

Circe

Circe taunting Wonder Woman in DC comics

Though Cheetah is Diana’s main rival, Circe is another runner-up. Circe is a twisted sorceress who often tortures Wonder Woman both physically and emotionally. She was the one that created a war between the Greek gods and she resurrected Diana’s mother, bringing about a darker, more villainous form.

Circe has even been a problem for teams such as Justice League Dark and the main Justice League. However, maybe a video game would be a good place for Circe. She is also another villain who has seen multiple reincarnations, sometimes with more sympathetic origins, so there’s always a possibility that she could appear in the games, with the stories expanded upon by Monolith.
