10 Unfinished Star Wars Storylines That The Next Movies Could Continue

10 Unfinished Star Wars Storylines That The Next Movies Could Continue

Four new Star Wars movies will be released in the next few years, creating multiple opportunities to continue unfinished storylines. Rather than telling one story across a trilogy, each new Star Wars movie will focus on different characters at various points in the timeline from 25,000 years before A New Hope to 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This will give the filmmakers freedom to tell different stories and address lingering questions from the previous Star Wars movies and TV shows.

The new movies can also continue storylines that connect to each other, making the next batch of films feel cohesive despite differing plots. The two Mandalorian-era films can easily connect, while Rey’s New Jedi Order can feature parallels and references to James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie. 10 Star Wars storylines have the most potential and deserve to be addressed in the forthcoming films.

Will Kanjiklub And The Guavian Death Gang Return?

Rey’s New Jedi Order Movie

Kanjiklub Gang in Star Wars The Force Awakens

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, two gangs tried to kill Han Solo for ripping them off, but neither group appeared again. Rey inadvertently unleashed carnivorous rathtars on Kanjiklub and the Guavian Death Gang, so they would surely want revenge on her and Finn. They could lead an attack on Rey’s Jedi Temple, lure her students into a trap, or the Republic could ask the Jedi to stop their operations. Considering that the Kanjiklub members were portrayed by the cast of the critically acclaimed The Raid movies, it would be a shame for them to have only one appearance.

Will The Canto Bight Orphans Join Rey’s New Jedi Order?

Rey’s New Jedi Order Movie

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Rey and Broom Boy

Rey’s biggest challenge in rebuilding the Jedi Order will be finding Force-sensitive students, but Star Wars: The Last Jedi introduced at least one candidate. The film ends with a Canto Bight orphan, Temiri Blagg, subtly using the Force to grab a broom and hold it like a lightsaber. Colin Trevorrow’s original script for Star Wars: Episode IX would have ended with Finn and Rose Tico creating a home for the Canto Bight children, the first students at Rey’s new Jedi academy. This would be a perfect place for the New Jedi Order movie to pick up, showing how these children have grown up strong in the Force.

Is Pershing’s Knowledge Lost For Good?

The Mandalorian & Grogu or Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian Era Movie

Omid Abtahi as Dr. Penn Pershing in The Mandalorian season 3.

Dr. Penn Pershing was seemingly killed by Imperial agent Elia Kane in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 3 “Chapter 19: The Convert,” but the Imperial Remnant continued its research into cloning. Moff Gideon nearly succeeded in creating Force-sensitive clones of himself before they were destroyed by Din Djarin, meaning Dr. Pershing’s work could be lost for good. However, Commandant Brendol Hux was also working on a cloning project called “Project Necromancer,” which Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 confirmed was connected to Emperor Palpatine. Time will tell if the Empire can replicate Dr. Pershing’s work.

What Will The “New” New Republic Look Like?

Rey’s New Jedi Order Movie

Vice Admiral Holdo told the surviving members of the Resistance that they would restore the Republic, but how will this government compare to the previous New Republic? The First Order conquered the galaxy in a few weeks because the New Republic spent decades doing nothing, suffering the same fate as the Old Republic. Perhaps the galaxy will form a new galactic government, or they could dispense with a galactic government altogether. The Republic could also become more active and establish greater control out of fear of the Sith or the First Order launching another attack.

How Does The Imperial Remnant Become The First Order?

The Mandalorian & Grogu or Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian Era Movie

Imperial and First Order stormtroopers

There is a 20-year gap between the Imperial Remnant in The Mandalorian and the First Order in the sequel trilogy. Because the Imperial Shadow Council includes Commandant Hux, one of the founders of the First Order, the upcoming Mandalorian-era movies can reveal more about how the First Order came to be. Captain Pellaeon and Hux are the unofficial leaders of the council, so once Grand Admiral Thrawn is defeated, Hux can take over and reshape the Imperial Remnant into the First Order. His work on Project Necromancer would also set up Palpatine’s return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Will Finn Help His Fellow Stormtroopers?

Rey’s New Jedi Order Movie

Star Wars Finn and Stormtroopers

Finn deserted the First Order after watching a fellow stormtrooper die, but the following movies never built on this. While he acknowledged that the other stormtroopers were taken as children like him, he never showed remorse for killing them or expressed a desire to help. Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX script would have seen Finn connect with a stormtrooper who has doubts about the First Order’s actions, and the two would later lead an uprising on Coruscant. Now that Finn knows Jannah and other stormtrooper deserters, they could work together to rehabilitate those conscripted by the First Order.

John Boyega as Finn in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

Finn

Brainwashed as a stormtrooper for the First Order, Finn was able to resist his conditioning – likely due to his Force-sensitivity. Initially unwilling to ally with the Resistance, he nonetheless eventually chose to side with them, and became a good friend to both Rey and Poe Dameron. Finn led a squad of ex-stormtroopers during the fateful Battle of Exegol, a conflict that saw him finally embrace the Force.

Will Lando Calrissian Ever Find His Daughter?

Rey’s New Jedi Order Movie

Lando and Jannah in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

Lando Calrissian’s daughter, Kadara Calrissian, was kidnapped by the First Order as a baby, along with the children of other Rebel leaders. This led many fans to believe Jannah was Lando’s daughter, but he was merely offering to help those kidnapped by the First Order. The Rise of Skywalker novelization also confirms that Lando hopes to find his daughter while helping these children find their families, although he knows the odds are against it. Even so, the New Jedi Order movie could show Lando, Jannah, and Finn working together to find her or reveal that she was found between movies.

Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy

The Mandalorian & Grogu or Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian Era Movie

Luke Skywalker had just finished building his Jedi Temple on Ossus when Grogu left in The Book of Boba Fett, and there are several candidates for his Jedi Order. Ezra Bridger has returned from exile in another galaxy, Jacen Syndulla has expressed interest in becoming a Jedi, and characters like Cal Kestis are not confirmed to be dead. Luke’s family could also join him, as Leia Organa and Ben Solo were trained at some point in the timeline. Other Star Wars books and comics have confirmed that Luke trained Enyo, Voe, Hennix, and Tai, any of whom could appear in the upcoming movies.

When Did The Jedi Settle On Tython?

James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi Movie

Baby Yoda Powers Tython The Mandalorian

While Tython is no longer the birthplace of the Jedi Order in canon, The Mandalorian season 2 revealed that it is still a crucial part of Jedi history. The Dawn of the Jedi movie will show the origin of the Jedi Order, and while it will likely begin on Ahch-To, Tython could be one of the first Force-rich planets the Jedi settle on. The movie could show how the Jedi built the structure used by Grogu in The Mandalorian to contact other Jedi across the galaxy.

The Origin Of The Force Gods Of Mortis

James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi Movie

Ahsoka season 1 ends with Baylan Skoll discovering statues of the Force Gods of Mortis, and this would be an excellent topic for Dawn of the Jedi to explore. The original Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi comics in Legends implied that the Celestials, the race that the Force Gods belonged to, may have been the ones who brought Force-sensitive beings to Tython from across the galaxy. While the Celestials were millions of years old, connecting them to the Jedi Order would be a fantastic way for Star Wars to explore their origin in the Dawn of the Jedi movie.
