10 Times Colin Robinson & Laszlo Were Friendship Goals In What We Do In The Shadows

10 Times Colin Robinson & Laszlo Were Friendship Goals In What We Do In The Shadows

What We Do In The Shadows has seen plenty of strong relationships, romantic and platonic, across its 5-season run, but Laszlo and Colin Robinson’s is the best. Following the lives of several vampires, including Laszlo (Matt Berry,) Nadja (Natasia Demetriou,) Nandor (Kayvan Novak,) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch,) as well as their familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén,) What We Do In The Shadows looks into the lives of centuries-old vampires living in a modern world. The critically acclaimed comedy has received over twenty-one Emmy nominations, which is no surprise considering its hilarious storylines and incredible pacing.

Colin and Laszlo’s relationship can be described as a slow burn, seeing as the two didn’t interact often in earlier seasons. However, once the two sparked up a friendship, they quickly became a beautifully funny duo that ended up in all manner of ridiculous situations. Throughout their friendship, there have been plenty of times that prove that Laszlo and Colin are friendship goals, and it’s hoped that What We Do In The Shadows season 6 will see more moments between the two.

The What We Do in the Shadows cast features seasoned comedy veterans like Matt Berry and relative newcomers like Kayvan Novak playing vampires.

10 Baby Colin Robinson

Season 4, Episode 1 – “Reunited”

WWDITS: Baby Colin and Laszlo fencing in a play park

Following the death of Colin Robinson on his 100th birthday, Laszlo discovers that the energy vampire has been reborn. Considering that Laszlo doesn’t have any children, taking Colin under his wing is his form of parenthood, having developed a friendship with him before his death. Not only is this sweet act one of the best parts of the two’s friendship, but it also shows that Laszlo genuinely cares about the person that this version of Colin becomes, leading to a quote from Laszlo Cravensworth that perfectly sums him up: “I can mold this blank canvas of a boy into the most interesting adult.”

9 Child Colin Robinson

Season 4, Episode 2 – “Lamp”

As Colin Robinson goes through childhood, his bond with Laszlo quickly becomes one of the best relationships in What We Do In The Shadows. Although Laszlo initially struggles with child Colin’s interests, he accepts him with the help of Guillermo. Laszlo takes an interest in Colin’s love of musical theatre, despite believing it’s one of the worst forms of artistic expression, and trains the boy to perform at Nadja’s Vampire Nightclub. The sweet interactions between the pair show that Laszlo’s care of Colin isn’t just simply about him making sure a child is looked after. It also comes from the friendship they formed before Colin’s death.

8 Laszlo Saves Colin Robinson From The Siren

Season 3, Episode 7 – “Siren”

WWDITS Laszlo and Colin Robinson tied up by the Siren

Some of Laszlo’s funniest quotes come from his attempt to save Colin from the Siren. The two decide to steal a boat, a great moment in their relationship, which leads them to encounter the Siren. In a typical Laszlo style, he is incredibly rude and polite in his responses. Laszlo tries to stop Colin from being manipulated by the creature’s song, even though it was his fault they decided to approach it in the first place. Even when Colin believes he’s in love, and refuses to leave, Laszlo knows what is best for him and manages to drag him away. Laszlo does apologize to Colin for his actions, however, and cares about his friend’s feelings.

7 Laszlo Toasting To Colin’s Birthday

Season 3, Episode 9 – “A Farewell”

An image of Colin Robinson sitting in a chair in What We Do In The Shadows

Laszlo’s caring about Colin Robinson’s birthday led to one of the character’s most emotional moments during the show. Laszlo is the only one who seems to have any interest in Colin’s 100th, and so when the Vampiric Council announces they are throwing them a feast, takes the opportunity to see the energy vampire have a birthday party too. Even the speech that he gives, although still a little rude and blunt, allows Laszlo to show his appreciation toward Colin and their friendship.

6 Laszlo’s Eulogy At Colin’s Burial

Season 2, Episode 5 – “Colin’s Promotion”

After Colin’s promotion grants him a dangerous amount of power, two clones of him split out, and he manages to bore himself to death. Although shocked, Laszlo organizes for Colin to be buried in their garden and embarks on a rather emotional eulogy. Sharing fond memories with Colin, Laszlo recalls a conversation he had with the energy vampire, claiming it was an occasion where Colin didn’t bore him, but was rather interested.

5 Colin Helps Laszlo Fix His Car

Season 3, Episode 3 – “Gail”

Colin helping Laszlo revive his old car taken by the Vampiric Council provided one of the show’s funniest moments, even if it did involve poor Colin being run over multiple times. It was the two deciding to fix the motor up that led to their friendship properly forming for the first time, although they both were under the impression that the other was lonely and so took pity on one another. This scene saw significant character development for both Laszlo and Colin, breaking out of their shells to spend time with one another, something that previously wouldn’t have been on either of their radars.

4 Laszlo Protects Colin From The Truth

Season 3, Episode 2 – “The Cloak of Duplication”

WWDITS Laszlo and Colin Robinson in the Vampiric Council library

One of Laszlo’s most wholesome moments comes from hiding the truth about energy vampires from Colin. Sad to find out that Colin will perish on his 100th birthday, Laszlo becomes determined to make sure Colin’s final months are as happy as possible. The two end up having several ridiculous adventures, mainly involving stealing transport, which brings their friendship together beautifully. Considering the other vampires consider Colin Robinson to be a bore and not at the same level as them, Laszlo’s change in heart towards the energy vampire very much cement their ongoing friendship.

3 Colin Forgets His Childhood

Season 4, Episode 10 – “Sunrise, Sunset”

WWDITS Laszlo playing piano by candlelight, with Child Colin Robinson's bed in the background

Colin Robinson’s time as a reborn child doesn’t last for too long, and he eventually becomes the fully grown man that he’d started the show as. Unfortunately, this comes with heartbreak for Laszlo, as Colin doesn’t remember the year or so he spent as a child being raised by him. In one of Laszlo’s more emotional moments, he discusses what to do with the racecar bed that the child slept in, and realizes that Colin has forgotten the sweet memories the two shared. Not only does this moment show just how emotionally invested Laszlo had become in the child, but it also shows a softer, more understanding side to him.

2 Colin And Laszlo Go On A Road Trip

Season 3, Episode 3 – “Gail”

WWDITS Laszlo and Colin Robinson getting ready for their road trip

Managing to fix Laszlo’s old car, he and Colin embark on a road trip together. Despite Laszlo running Colin over, the two eventually manage to free the car from the house and drive away together while being chased by werewolves. Although a brief moment, it’s one of Laszlo and Colin’s best. Despite how Colin is treated by the other vampires, he can see Laszlo’s attempts to be friendly towards him and put in an equal effort. Even though the fixing of the car is its own memorable moment, their departure in the car is even more special and shows Colin’s feelings toward Laszlo, rather than the other way around.

1 Laszlo Gives Colin The Best Final Moments

Season 3, Episode 4 – “The Casino”

WWDITS Colin Robinson in the season 3 episode

Although there are several things Laszlo did to make Colin’s last weeks as perfect as possible, the best one was completely unintentional. Nadja, Laszlo, and Nandor, all bedbound due to losing their homeland soil, are left with Colin while Guillermo flies around the world to collect replacements. While Nadja and Laszlo try and find a way to help Guillermo, Colin teaches Nandor about the Big Bang and the general nature of the universe. It may not seem like Laszlo did this on purpose, given the situation, but he does allow Colin to enjoy boring one of their friends in great detail for what may be one of his last occasions in What We Do In The Shadows.
