10 Strongest Dragon Ball Characters Introduced in the Super Era

10 Strongest Dragon Ball Characters Introduced in the Super Era

Dragon Ball Super was a long-awaited continuation of the ever-popular Dragon Ball Z, featuring the return of the late, great Akira Toriyama to the franchise. While most fan-favorite characters from Z made a return appearance in Super, the series also introduced a plethora of powerful new figures, ranging from fellow Saiyans to literal gods.

Many of Dragon Ball Super‘s new characters have gone on to find massive fanbases of their own, with some nearly as popular as classic characters like Goku and Trunks. These warriors also had plenty of opportunities to show off their power over the course of the series, particularly with the Tournament of Power at the series’ end, which saw the best fighters from across the multiverse compete in a battle for survival of their universes. Here are 10 of the strongest characters introduced in Dragon Ball Super, including its associated movies.

Caulifla Proved Female Saiyans Can Be as Tough as Goku

First Appearance: “Gohan and Piccolo! Master and Pupil Clash in Max Training!”

Caulifla is a female Saiyan from Universe 6, and happens to be the first female Saiyan in the franchise to go Super Saiyan. She’s a rough-and-tumble gang leader back on their homeworld of Planet Sadala, and knew her way around a fight long before the Tournament of Power. She was recruited to fight on the Universe 6 team by fellow Saiyan Cabba, who thought of her as perhaps the strongest Saiyan in their universe.

Caulifla picked up the secret to Super Saiyan in just a few minutes, and managed to unlock Super Saiyan 2 on her own during the Tournament. Goku was quite impressed by her innate talent, and couldn’t help but offer a few pointers as they battled. Caulifla is rarely seen without her “sworn sister” Kale, and the two go on to fuse into the fusion warrior Kefla, whose power is on a different level.

Kale’s Meek Personality Hides Incredible Power

First Appearance: “A Mysterious Beauty Appears! The Enigma of the Tien Shin-Style Dojo?”

Kale is another female Saiyan from Universe 6, and a close friend of Caulifla. While Kale has a quiet and meek personality, her rage can give rise to unbelievable levels of power. Said to be the latest incarnation of the Legendary Super Saiyan, Kale has a difficult time controlling her power, tending to go berserk and lose herself to the rage. Caulifla is the only one able to get through to her in these moments, but the sheer power made her a dangerous competitor in the Tournament of Power.

As noted above, Kale fused with Caulifla using the Potara earrings to create Kefla, and the fusion was better able to control the immense power that Kale wields. Kale isn’t quite as cut out for battle as Caulifla, but the raw power she has just can’t be counted out.

Hit is Powerful Enough to Alter Time

First Appearance: “The Matches Begin! We’re All Off to the ‘Planet with No Name!'”

Yet another competitor from Universe 6, Hit is an assassin rather than a martial artist. Hit’s secret to success is his time skip ability, which allows him to jump forward in time a tenth of a second. That may not sound like much, but it makes his moves incredibly difficult to predict, offering him openings that other warriors wouldn’t be able to take advantage of. This ability improves over the course of his fights as well, soon allowing him to pause time, however briefly, rendering him almost impossible to land a blow on.

Hit was able to go up against Goku in his Super Saiyan Blue form with the Kaioken technique active, and held his own for quite some time, putting his power at an insanely high level. Hit’s strength doesn’t lie in raw power, but rather in technique, so his timebending abilities are extremely valuable.

7

Top Wields the Power of a Destroyer

First Appearance: “Even the Universes’ Gods are Appalled?! The Lose-and-Perish Tournament of Power”

Hailing from Universe 11 is Top, a mortal who is next in line to become the God of Destruction for his universe. As such, Top wields the power of a Destroyer, making him an insanely dangerous opponent. The leader of the Pride Troopers, an organization of justice, Top considers things in a very black-and-white way, constantly talking about justice. Of course, as Universe 11’s situation became more desperate, Top began to abandon his ideals in favor of survival.

Like Goku and Vegeta, Top is trained by his universe’s Destroyer, and fights at a level that few other warriors can compete at. He was able to stand against Android 17 and Gohan at the same time, and even battled Goku at Super Saiyan Blue with Kaioken, albeit for a short time. His divine powers make Top a real threat to the other universes in the Tournament of Power.

6

Goku Black Achieved a Divine Form of Super Saiyan

First Appearance: “SOS from the Future: A Dark New Enemy Appears!”

Goku Black isn’t Goku at all; rather, he’s Universe 10’s North Kai, Zamasu, having stolen Goku’s body and power. Aiming to destroy all mortals, Goku Black heads to the alternate timeline where Future Trunks is from and begins exterminating life wherever he can find it. Goku Black was able to develop a Super Saiyan technique all his own, the so-called Super Saiyan Rosé, which is only possible because of his inherently divine nature.

Goku Black had phenomenal power at his disposal, able to fight both Goku and Vegeta in Super Saiyan Blue, and Trunks as well. He would eventually fuse with an alternate version of Zamasu, granting him even more power, and was ultimately only defeated by the intervention of the strongest being in the multiverse, Zeno.

5

Jiren is One of the Multiverse’s Strongest Mortals

First Appearance: “The Universes Go Into Action — Each With Their Own Motives”

Jiren is another competitor in the Tournament of Power, hailing from Universe 11 like Top. Despite Top’s God of Destruction abilities, Jiren was still said to be stronger. A man of few words, Jiren didn’t coordinate much with his teammates, and spent the beginning of the Tournament of Power simply sitting in place, waiting for someone to make the foolish decision to challenge him.

Jiren pushed Goku to his absolute limits, causing him to discover the Ultra Instinct ability for the first time. He shut down Kale’s berserker rampage singlehandedly. Jiren proved to be an absurdly difficult opponent, only defeated in the end by the combined efforts of Android 17, Frieza, and Goku.

4

Broly is The Legendary Super Saiyan

First Appearance: Dragon Ball Super: Broly

Broly doesn’t appear in the Dragon Ball Super series proper, only showing up in the follow-up movie, but he absolutely deserves a mention. As the Legendary Super Saiyan of Universe 7, Broly had almost unlimited power at his disposal, seemingly growing stronger at every turn. Broly was tricked by Frieza into fighting Goku and Vegeta, but after they defeated him, Goku befriended Broly, and he has become a recurring character in the Dragon Ball Super manga.

Broly has access to the berserker Legendary Super Saiyan form, with which he was able to battle on almost even footing against Goku and Vegeta’s fusion, Gogeta, even in Super Saiyan Blue state. Broly also had no problem keeping up with Frieza in his Golden Frieza form.

3

Beerus is The Strongest God of Destruction

First Appearance: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (film), “A Peacetime Reward: Who Gets the 100,000,000 Zeni?!” (series)

Beerus is the God of Destruction of Universe 7, often accompanied by his Angel attendant, Whis. As a God of Destruction, Beerus wields the incredible power of a Destroyer, able to wipe out entire planets with little more than a finger. Beerus is also an exceptionally well-trained martial artist, and was eager to find the “Super Saiyan God” he dreamed of in order to battle a challenging warrior. Despite his status, Beerus is a surprisingly affable figure, so long as delicious food is available.

Beerus easily defeated Goku even in his Super Saiyan God state, although he was impressed enough with the Saiyan’s ability to take him on for training. When battling against the other destroyers in the manga, Beerus came out on top, withstanding attacks from all other Destroyers to be one of the last two standing.

2

Whis Taught Beerus Everything He Knows

First Appearance: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (film), “A Peacetime Reward: Who Gets the 100,000,000 Zeni?!” (series)

Whis is Beerus’s Angel attendant and martial arts instructor. As an Angel, Whis is capable of using the divine technique known as Ultra Instinct, making him an exceptionally difficult opponent for anyone to fight. Whis is rarely seen fighting directly, although he often trains Goku and Vegeta by having them try to hit him without him fighting back. Aside from combat abilities, Whis can turn back time by three minutes and transport the planet-sized Super Dragon Balls with his staff.

Since he’s not fought seriously within the series, Whis’s power is hard to gauge. Still, he was able to avoid every one of Broly’s attacks in the movie, offering a distraction while Goku and Vegeta got their fusion right. His status as Beerus’ teacher says a lot about his ability, however, and Whis should absolutely not be underestimated.

1

Zeno is the Omnipotent Ruler of the Multiverse

First Appearance: “A Decision at Last! Is the Winner Beerus? Or Is It Champa?”

The Omni-King, Zeno, is the god of the multiverse in Dragon Ball Super and by far the most powerful being to have ever appeared in the franchise. As the ruler of all, even divine beings like Beerus and Shin are terrified of dealing with him because he could destroy them in an instant. Zeno’s child-like personality gives a sense of innocence to everything he does, but he still casually plays marbles with entire planets and was considering destroying most of the multiverse before Goku suggested the Tournament of Power.

Zeno’s absolute power makes him an unassailable force within the universe of Dragon Ball. The only being who can measure up to Zeno is his own future counterpart, brought from Future Trunks’ timeline to be a friend. This makes Zeno undoubtedly the strongest character introduced in Dragon Ball Super, even if he’s not a martial artist.
