10 Romancing Mister Bridgerton Details Bridgerton Season 3 Cannot Miss Out

10 Romancing Mister Bridgerton Details Bridgerton Season 3 Cannot Miss Out

Warning! Spoilers about Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books are ahead.

With Colin and Penelope’s story in Bridgerton season 3 fast approaching, it is important to consider the most important details and scenes from the corresponding book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn, that should be included in Netflix’s show. Even though Bridgerton has notoriously taken liberties with the canon in the past, the series has kept the most vital points of the central relationship, and hopefully, the same courtesy is extended to Penelope and Colin’s love story. Bridgerton might have changed the timeline, but that shouldn’t mean that the core scenes can’t still be featured.

In Bridgerton season 2, Eloise got upset that Penelope was Lady Whistledown, and this revelation caused their friendship to fall apart; in the books, she didn’t learn this fact about Penelope until much later and reacted to the news in a calmer manner. This change could provide obstacles to accurately adapting Penelope and Colin’s story in Bridgerton season 3, but there is still hope that it doesn’t interfere with the timeline too much and that the writers have thought of a clever way to keep the Lady Whistledown subplot without taking away the suspense. This big reveal and other key scenes from Romancing Mister Bridgerton have to be part of season 3.

10 Colin’s Private Journals

Colin Catching Penelope In The Act

In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Colin details his many travels in his journals. Although he is initially embarrassed about his hobby, writing is essentially the activity that jumpstarts Colin and Penelope’s romance. When Penelope comes to the Bridgertons, she stumbles upon Colin’s journal and can’t help but sneak a glance at the page that he has left open. She feels horrible about it, but can’t stay away, and that’s when Colin comes in and catches Penelope in the act. Apart from the fact that this scene is hilarious, it is a major moment in Colin and Penelope’s budding relationship, so it should be brought to the screen in the upcoming Bridgerton season 3.

9 Francesca’s First Husband

Referencing John Stirling’s Death

10 Romancing Mister Bridgerton Details Bridgerton Season 3 Cannot Miss Out

Francesca’s absence from Bridgerton has become a bit of a running joke, but in fact, it has begun with the novels. Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which is primarily set in 1824, references Francesca’s first marriage to John Stirling and her subsequent widowhood two years later. In the novel, Francesca isn’t part of the story because she has chosen to remain in Scotland after her husband’s death. Since Francesca is the only Bridgerton child to marry twice, her first husband’s passing is an important plot point that leads to her own story in When He Was Wicked, so Bridgerton season 3 should ideally include this heartbreaking detail if the events take place in 1824.

8 Penelope & Lady Danbury’s Friendship

Penelope & Lady Danbury Engaging In Witty Banter

Lady Danbury Looking Cross at a Party in Bridgerton

Lady Danbury is a fascinating character, even though her role in the novels greatly differs from the part she plays in Bridgerton. Still, one of the best storylines in Romancing Mister Bridgerton revolves around Penelope and Lady Danbury’s unlikely friendship. The old lady takes a liking to Penelope because she reminds her of herself when she was younger, and they share so many memorable moments in the novel. At the very least, Bridgerton season 3 has to feature the gem of a scene where Lady Danbury announces a prize to anyone who uncovers Lady Whistledown, and Penelope is the only one who dares to suggest that Lady Danbury herself is the enigmatic gossip columnist.

7 Eloise’s Mysterious Letters

Eloise Writing Letters To Philip Crane

While Eloise’s own story doesn’t start until the next novel, To Sir Phillip, With Love, she behaves rather strangely throughout Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Eloise is hardly present at the family meetings, she has ink stains all over her hands, and she spends a lot of time cooped up in her room, seemingly writing letters to someone. This someone is later revealed to be Sir Phillip Crane, her future husband, who is currently married to Marina. Assuming that Marina’s death by suicide takes place in Bridgerton in the same way it does in the books, season 3 has to lay the groundwork for Eloise and Phillip’s penpals-to-lovers story by having Eloise secretly write letters.

6 Bridgertons’ Daily Tea Time

Penelope Spending Time With The Bridgertons

The Bridgerton Family Standing in a Doorway in Bridgerton Season 1

The Bridgerton family’s daily tea gatherings are legendary, and they play a big role in several novels. In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Penelope is a frequent Bridgerton house guest since she is friends with both Eloise and Colin, but she has some kind of relationship with almost every Bridgerton, and that has yet to be shown in the series. Bridgerton season 3 needs to feature Penelope interacting with the entire family, which can prove to be tricky in light of Penelope and Eloise’s fight in season 2. Hopefully, the two women make up sooner rather than later — Penelope will need her biggest supporter in season 3.

5 Hyacinth’s Meddling

Hyacinth Being A Rascal

Hyacinth Sitting on a Sofa with Her Arms Crossed in Bridgerton

While Hyacinth has hardly been a main character in Bridgerton so far, she has already had plenty of moments that showcase her mischievous nature on screen. In the books, Hyacinth is also a background character until Romancing Mister Bridgerton where she shines for the first time. Since Penelope is quite involved with the Bridgertons in general and spends a lot of time by their side at balls and other functions, Hyacinth is around a lot, offering her cheeky remarks and outrageous retorts to her family and anyone else who is willing to listen. Bridgerton season 3 needs to give Hyacinth more screen time to be the adorable little rascal she is.

4 Colin’s Proposal To Penelope

Colin Announcing His Proposal To Lady Featherington

In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Colin’s out-of-the-blue proposal to Penelope is refreshing, and it surprises both him and Penelope, who nearly falls to the ground upon hearing it. The only moment more amusing than Colin’s proposal is the scene where he and Penelope go to share the good news with Lady Featherington at the Featherington family gathering. Despite the fact that Colin is being rather obvious with his intentions, Lady Featherington keeps thinking that he likes her other daughter, Felicity. Sadly, Felicity isn’t in the show, so this particular scene can be difficult to adapt, but it is too good not to be included in some way in Bridgerton season 3.

3 Colin & Penelope’s Carriage Scene

Colin Scolding & Then Kissing Penelope In The Carriage

Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton and Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington Looking at Each Otherin Bridgerton Season 2

Colin and Penelope’s carriage ride home is one of the steamiest scenes in the Bridgerton books, and it would be a crime to skip it in the show. After Colin discovers that Penelope is Lady Whistledown, he takes her home and reprimands her in the carriage, but suddenly their argument is interrupted by a hot make-out session. Colin and Penelope arrive at the Featherington house so fast that they barely have time to make themselves look presentable. Bridgerton hasn’t shied away from sex scenes before, but it has dialed down on the heat in season 2. Since Colin and Penelope’s carriage scene is Colin’s motivation to propose, it has to be present in season 3.

2 Colin’s Lady Whistledown Announcement

Colin Revealing That Penelope Is Lady Whistledown

Luke Newton as Colin Near the Staircase in Bridgerton

In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Colin and Penelope’s long-lasting argument centers on Penelope being Lady Whistledown and Colin not being able to accept her double life. He finally does come to terms with it when Cressida threatens to expose Penelope if she doesn’t give her money, and in a beautiful gesture, Colin announces to the entire ton that Penelope is Lady Whistledown and that he is proud of her accomplishments. This scene is a testament to Colin’s love for Penelope and one of the highlights of the book series — it simply has to be done right in the show so that it carries the same emotional weight.

1 Colin & Penelope’s First Kiss

Penelope Asking Colin To Kiss Her

Colin and Penelope Talking in Bridgerton

Bridgerton‘s mysterious Penelope Featherington is a rule-breaker — she ends up being the one who initiates her first kiss with Colin. It is common knowledge that Penelope has had a crush on Colin for years without him noticing, and at one point in Romancing Mister Bridgerton, she outright asks him to kiss her, no strings attached, and he awkwardly complies. Colin is then surprised to discover that he has enjoyed the kiss just as much as Penelope has, and that is the minute he starts seeing her in a new light. Hopefully, Bridgerton season 3 won’t change this defining moment for Colin and Penelope’s romance too much.
