10 Rick & Morty Supporting Characters That Should Have Bigger Roles In Season 8

10 Rick & Morty Supporting Characters That Should Have Bigger Roles In Season 8

Rick and Morty has an incredible cast of characters, and these 10 supporting characters should have a much bigger role in season 8. The main characters of Rick and Morty have had plenty of time to be fleshed out, with the Smith-Sanchez family being the focus of nearly every episode. However, there are plenty of supporting characters that haven’t had a chance to get the spotlight, and Rick and Morty season 8 should take the opportunity to flesh them out to a greater extent than ever before. So, here are 10 characters that would be perfect candidates for a greater role in Rick and Morty season 8.

Rick and Morty season 7 is finally here, with the highly-anticipated continuation of Adult Swim’s beloved animated sci-fi series now concluded. The season ended up being pretty packed, with it managing to bring back the show’s classic wacky one-off adventures while also furthering the series’ overarching story, with Rick and Morty season 7 even killing off Rick Prime. However, season 7 also put an interesting twist on some of the show’s side characters, with it using episodes to focus on fleshing out minor characters like Gene and Mr. Goldenfold. Rick and Morty season 8 could continue this trend, using its runtime to flesh out even more side characters like these.

10 Jessica

Debuted in season 1, episode 1, “Pilot”

One of the Rick and Morty characters that is most deserving of a greater role in the story is Jessica. Jessica has been around since the very first episode of Rick and Morty, and while she has always been Morty’s love interest, Jessica has received very little development. Jessica is more of a plot device than a character throughout Rick and Morty, so it would be nice for the eighth season to flesh her out a little more than she previously has been.

9 Birddaughter

Debuted in season 5, episode 8, “Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort”

10 Rick & Morty Supporting Characters That Should Have Bigger Roles In Season 8

Birddaughter is a recent addition to the Rick and Morty cast, but the few seconds of screentime she has had so far sets her up as an immensely interesting character that is deserving of her own episode. Birddaughter is the daughter of Rick’s best friend Birdperson, a character that has received a lot of development himself. Birddaughter didn’t speak until season 7, but it is clear that her upbringing in a Galactic Federation prison has radicalized her, turning her against the galactic authorities. It seems like Birddaughter and Birdperson go on various adventures together, and an episode chronicling their story would be incredible.

8 Mrs. Poopybutthole

Debuted in season 3, episode 10, “The Rickchurian Mortydate”

Mrs. Poopybutthole doesn’t have much character before season 7, but the ending of Rick and Morty season 7 sets her up as having one of the show’s most interesting stories. In the post-credits scene of the season 7 finale, Mr. Poopybutthole uses Rick’s portal gun to travel to different universe where he takes over another Mr. Poopybutthole’s family. The scene implies that Mrs. Poopybutthole actually knows that her husband is an impostor, and an episode following her attempts to stop the multiversal murderer would be a fun time.

7 Gearhead

Debuted in season 1, episode 11, “Ricksy Business”

Rick and Morty Quiz - Gearhead

Another one of Rick’s friends in Rick and Morty is Gearhead, although the character has received far less screentime than some of Rick’s other friends. Gearhead has appeared in nearly every seaosn so far, with season 6 being the sole exception, so it is sad that Gearhead hasn’t had any time in the spotlight. An episode focusing on Gearhead’s time in the Gear System would be a great way to expand on a strange corner of the Rick and Morty universe, and it should happen in season 8.

6 Jaguar

Debuted in season 3, episode 3, “Pickle Rick”

Jaguar looking angry in Rick and Morty

Jaguar is a mostly-forgotten Rick and Morty side character, but he is actually the antagonist of one of the show’s most popular episodes: “Pickle Rick.” In the episode, Jaguar is tasked with fighting Pickle Rick, although the story hints at a much bigger story behind Jaguar. Jaguar is a rebel fighter who simply wants to save his daughter, and his wild backstory is only hinted at throughout the episode. Bringing Jaguar back and expanding on his narrative would be a great way to flesh out the character, and hopefully it will happen in the show’s future.

5 Morty Jr.

Debuted in season 1, episode 7, “Raising Gazorpazorp”

Morty Jr. holding a beer and looking angry

Morty Jr. is the son of Morty, and while the strong familial ties would cause viewers to expect Morty Jr. to have a pretty big role in Rick and Morty, he actually barely appears in the series. Due to Gazorpian biology, Morty Jr. ages much quicker than humans, meaning that he is already an adult. More stories revolving around Morty’s relationship with his adult son would be a pretty interesting way for the series to go, and hopefully he will come back in season 8.

4 Mr. Nimbus

Debuted in season 5, episode 1, “Mort Dinner Rick Andre”

Mr. Nimbus posing in Rick and Morty

Mr. Nimbus is set up in Rick and Morty as Rick Sanchez’s number one rival, but despite their hatred for each other, Nimbus hasn’t reappeared in an antagonistic role in the show since his debut. Rick and Morty is in need of another overarching villain after the death of Rick Prime in season 8, and bringing back Mr. Nimbus could be the perfect way to fill this need. There is still a lot to learn about Mr. Nimbus’ history with Rick, and future episodes could further expand on their relationship.

3 Scary Terry

Debuted in season 1, episode 2, “Lawnmower Dog”

Scary Terry in Rick and Morty

Scary Terry is one of Rick and Morty‘s oddest villains, with him being a parody of A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger. One of the most interesting parts of A Nightmare on Elm Street is the lore surrounding Freddy Krueger, but Rick and Morty sadly hasn’t delved into this side of Scary Terry yet. Bringing the nightmare villain back for another episode would be a great way to do this while also reintroducing another dangerous villain to the franchise.

2 The President

Debuted in season 2, episode 5, “Get Schwifty”

The President with his generals in Rick and Morty

The President is another one of Rick Sanchez’s longest lasting rivals, and he definitely needs some more attention in future seasons. Rick and Morty season 7 actually set up the perfect story for the President, as he ends it in a pretty dark place. The episode “Air Force Wong” sees the President use Unity’s powers to take over the American populus in an attempt to raise his approval rating. This scheme will undoubtedly get the President impeached, and showing the President’s downfall would be a great way to further flesh him out.

1 Squanchy

Debuted in season 1, episode 11, “Ricksy Business”

One of Rick’s oldest friends is a cat-like alien named Squanchy, and while he has appeared in Rick and Morty plenty of times before, his character still hasn’t been expanded on. It isn’t really known where Squanchy comes from or what his motivations are, as he just showed up in the show one day. Squanchy could have an intricate backstory crafted for him in the same way that Birdperson did, perfectly explaining his relationship with Rick in Rick and Morty season 8.
