10 New Percy Jackson Characters To Expect In Season 2

10 New Percy Jackson Characters To Expect In Season 2

Percy Jackson & the Olympians is officially renewed for season 2, and there are numerous book characters viewers can expect to meet when the Disney+ series returns with new episodes. Season 1 already introduced a wave of great characters during Percy’s first adventure, which took him from Yancy Academy to Camp Half-Blood to Mount Olympus. The young demigod meets a slew of interesting personality on this journey, and some of the best Percy Jackson characters are pulled directly from Greek mythology.

Percy Jackson season 2 will likely adapt The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan’s best-selling series, which also features a combination of original and mythology-inspired characters. A number of newcomers will play important roles in the second chapter of Percy’s story. There are a lot of new faces to look forward to in Percy Jackson season 2, from new demigod allies to new antagonists.

10 Tyson

Percy’s Cyclops Half-Brother

10 New Percy Jackson Characters To Expect In Season 2

One of the most lovable new characters to expect in Percy Jackson season 2 is Percy’s Cyclops half-brother, Tyson. Percy meets Tyson at his new school, and he doesn’t know who he really is at first — but that doesn’t prevent the book’s lead from defending Tyson against bullies. When the duo get into a fight with some Laistrygonian Giants, they’re forced to leave school and head to Camp Half-Blood. It’s there that Percy learns Tyson is a Cyclops and a son of Poseidon.

The two form a close bond while staying in the same cabin at Camp Half-Blood, and Tyson continues to play a role throughout the Percy Jackson books. While Tyson’s arrival will no doubt require some CGI, executive producer Jon Steinberg already confirmed Tyson will play a significant role in Percy Jackson season 2. That’s an exciting prospect, and it will undoubtedly make Percy feel less alone.

9 Blackjack

Percy’s Pegasus

Tyson won’t be the only close friend Percy makes in Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 2. The demigod will also meet Blackjack, the pegasus who helps him — and provides transportation — over the course of Riordan’s books. Blackjack is initially introduced as a prisoner of Luke and Kronos, but he becomes endlessly loyal to Percy after the demigod frees him. Blackjack becomes a regular presence in both of Riordan’s Percy Jackson series, and he has an entertaining and lovable personality that makes his arrival in the new episodes that much more exciting.

8 Tantalus

Camp Half-Blood’s New Activities Director

Tantalus from the Percy Jackson & The Sea of Monsters graphic novel

Fully embracing his villain role in The Sea of Monsters, Luke poisons Thalia’s tree early in the novel, hoping to make Camp Half-Blood vulnerable. Chiron is fired after this happens, and Tantalus takes over his position as activities director. Based on the figure from Greek mythology, Tantalus was initially imprisoned in the Underworld’s Fields of Punishment after attempting to feed the Olympians human flesh. He escapes and takes on Chiron’s duties in The Sea of Monsters, and he finds joy in making the campers’ lives miserable.

As the Fields of Punishment doesn’t appear in Percy Jackson season 1 — one of the Disney+ show’s many book changes — it’s possible Tantalus will be cut from season 2. He was already cut from the Sea of Monsters movie. However, given that the poisoning of Thalia’s tree is a big storyline in the source material, it seems likely the series will keep it intact. If it does, viewers can expect a much less pleasant character than Chiron running the show. Tantalus is cruel and conniving, perhaps because he’s not able to eat or drink like ordinary humans.

7 Charles Beckendorf

Demigod Son Of Hephaestus

Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus in Percy Jackson episode 5

Viewers met a handful of demigods in Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 1, but season 2 will give more of Percy’s fellow campers identities and stories. This includes Charles Beckendorf, the son of Hephaestus, an Olympian who was already introduced in season 1. Beckendorf doesn’t play a huge role in The Sea of Monsters, but he becomes an ally to Percy — and he’s one of the few demigods to befriend Tyson as well.

Beckendorf is a metalworker, and he mainly competes with Percy in Camp Half-Blood’s many games and competitions. He also partakes in the battle against Kronos, and his role and impact is magnified in The Last Olympian. It’s possible Disney’s Percy Jackson show will give him a bigger role before then, building to the climax of his character arc and making it more powerful in the process.

6 Silena Beauregard

Demigod Daughter Of Aphrodite

Silena Beauregard is another demigod camper to expect in Percy Jackson season 2. She’s the daughter of Aphrodite, and she’s also Charles Beckendorf’s girlfriend. If he’s brought in during the sophomore season, there’s a good chance Silena will be as well. Like Beckendorf, Silena plays a minor role in The Sea of Monsters and becomes more important later on. Assuming the Disney+ series follows Riordan’s books, viewers should brace themselves for the latter half of her character arc. In season 2, she and the other campers will likely just be used to expand the show’s world.

5 Polyphemus

The Sea Of Monster’s Major Villain

Polyphemus from the cover of Percy Jackson & The Sea of Monsters graphic novel

While Luke and Kronos are the true villains of Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Polyphemus will be introduced as season 2’s major antagonist. A Cyclops with origins in Greek mythology, Polyphemus resides on an island in Riordan’s books, and that’s where he guards the Golden Fleece, the very item that can bring Thalia’s tree back to life. Grover comes across Polyphemus’ island first in The Sea of Monsters, falling into a trap set by the Cyclops and getting imprisoned.

Clarisse is given a quest to save him, and Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson accompany her to Polyphemus’ island, where they’re forced to face the giant. Given the importance of Polyphemus in The Sea of Monsters, it seems inevitable that Percy Jackson season 2 will introduce him. Doing so will allow the show to touch further on Poseidon’s relationship to the Cyclops. It will also give season 2 a thrilling climax, as Kronos’ war won’t ramp up just yet.

4 Circe

A Minor Antagonist From The Sea Of Monsters

The demigods’ quest in Percy Jackson season 2 will introduce them to Circe, the sorceress from Greek mythology. In Riordan’s source material, she runs a salon, and she turns men who enter her facility into guinea pigs. Percy meets this fate upon his encounter with Circe, but Annabeth is able to turn him back into a human with the help of Hermes’ multivitamins. Since Disney’s Percy Jackson show is closely following the source material, it’s likely this moment from their quest will make it into the show, introducing Circe on-screen.

3 Edward “Blackbeard” Teach

Pirate & Demigod Son Of Ares

Percy and Annabeth also run into the legendary pirate, Blackbeard, during their time on Circe’s island in The Sea of Monsters. Annabeth accidentally turns Blackbeard and his crew back into humans after Circe had been keeping them as guinea pigs. Percy and Annabeth steal Blackbeard’s ship — and while that’s the last they see of him in Riordan’s book, the Disney+ show would be wise to build on this legendary figure and give him a more prominent role in Percy Jackson season 2.

2 Thalia Grace

Zeus’ Forbidden Daughter

Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 1 talks a lot about Thalia Grace, the Forbidden Child of Zeus who journeyed to Camp Half-Blood alongside Annabeth and Luke. There’s a reason the series hypes up Thalia so much; she’ll return at the end of Percy Jackson season 2, when the demigods use the Golden Fleece to heal her tree. The magical item turns her back into a human, and she’s one who plays a prominent role in Percy’s story in the last three books. She’s likely to be just as important in the show, meaning future seasons of Percy Jackson & the Olympians will feature plenty of her character.

1 Athena

Annabeth’s Olympian Mother

Athena isn’t officially introduced until the third Percy Jackson book, but Annabeth’s mother is still likely to make an appearance in season 2. For one, Annabeth sees Athena while she’s under the spell of the sirens in The Sea of Monsters, giving the show an opening to bring in the goddess without really introducing her. However, the Disney+ series has also expanded the roles of certain characters and brought in gods early in season 1. Therefore, it’s not out of the question for Percy Jackson & the Olympians to give the real Athena an early entrance.
