10 Most Brutal Deaths In All 9 Seasons Of The Flash

10 Most Brutal Deaths In All 9 Seasons Of The Flash

The Flash saw many heroes, villains, and civilians face brutal deaths over its nine seasons. DC’s Arrowverse concluded earlier this year when The Flash met its end. After nine seasons, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen went out for his final run as the Scarlet Speedster, and like all The Flash seasons, season 9 of the Arrowverse series saw multiple shocking and brutal deaths. The Arrowverse is no stranger to killing characters, with major players such as Green Arrow and Black Canary dying; however, the level of brutality of some deaths does exceed the rest.

Like all the other Arrowverse shows on The CW, Gustin’s The Flash featured a series of violent and/or emotionally charged deaths. Some of The Flash‘s best characters have even been part of the superhero series’ most brutal deaths, which is explained by The Flash‘s choice of villains. The Arrowverse series pitted Gustin’s Barry Allen with several powerful and murderous antagonists, such as Reverse-Flash, Bloodwork, and Zoom. The Flash‘s best villains left a trail of blood behind, which resulted in a series of brutal deaths over The Flash‘s nine seasons.

10 Evil Cisco Vaporizes Gypsy

Season 6, Episode 5

Gypsy and Breacher in their leather jackets on Earth-19 in The Flash

The Flash season 6 made the controversial decision to kill Gypsy, and worse, her death was revealed through a flashback. Despite Gypsy’s death coming out of the blue, the character’s demise was quite brutal. Hailing from Earth-19, Jessica Camacho’s Gypsy had at one point found love with Earth-1’s Cisco Ramon. Sadly, Gypsy would be killed by Echo, who was none other than Earth-19’s doppelgänger of Cisco. Gypsy being killed by someone who had the face of one of her loved ones was brutal, and the fact that the character was completely vaporized, with Cisco framed for her death, made things even worse.

9 Harrison Wells Decays To Death

Season 1, Episode 17

Custom image of The Flash's Harrison Wells and Reverse-Flash

Many different versions of Harrison Wells appeared in The Flash over its nine seasons, but season 1 of the Arrowverse series included the shocking twist that Earth-1’s Wells had been killed, with Reverse-Flash assuming his identity. Eobard Thawne is one of the most deranged characters to have appeared in The Flash, with the villain responsible for a path of destruction like no other. Among the brutal deaths that came from Reverse-Flash’s hands is that of the original Harrison Wells. Thawne used a device that led to Wells quickly decaying to death, with the villain assuming the deceased character’s face and life.

8 Bloodwork Makes His Victims Into Essentially Zombies

Multiple Episodes

Sendhil Ramamurthy’s Bloodwork was one of The Flash‘s best villains. While the series usually did not have non-speedster main foes who were as exciting to watch as villains such as Reverse-Flash and Zoom, Bloodwork might be the exception to that rule. The character’s powers allowed the villain to essentially turn other people into zombies, with the added caveat that he could command them to do his bidding. Whenever he took people’s blood, Bloodwork would leave a piece of his dark matter-infused blood behind, which led to the person he killed reanimating and becoming one of his zombies, a brutal affair that befell many.

7 The Thinker Shrinks A Guard And Steps On Him

Season 4, Episode 22

Close-up shot of The Thinker sitting in his chair in The Flash

Clifford DeVoe, aka the Thinker, was one of The Flash‘s most ruthless villains. While his name and monotone attitude might not lead to the feeling that the Thinker was a brutal foe, the character’s actions in the Arrowverse series surely show that DeVoe was not one to be messed with. The Thinker killed several metahumans to gain their powers in an effort to bring his Enlightenment to the world. However, the Thinker’s most brutal kill might be that of an A.R.G.U.S. guard, with the villain shrinking the guard and then stepping on him, crushing him to death.

6 Nora West-Allen Is Erased From Existence

Season 5, Episode

Jessica Parker Kennedy’s Nora West-Allen was a welcome addition to The Flash. Seeing Nora interact with younger versions of her parents, especially Barry, who had disappeared in the future, led to many of the best moments of all The Flash seasons. Sadly, Nora’s first adventure on the show came to an end in a heartbreaking manner. After Team Flash managed to defeat Cicada 2, Nora was erased from existence as she hugged her parents, with all three characters crying while not being able to do anything to stop that from happening, as Nora did not want to use the Negative Speed Force to save her life.

5 A Brainwashed Wally West Stabs Barry Allen

Season 9, Episode 9

The Flash Season 9 team shot with Spartan Green Arrow Kid Flash Wally West Barry Allen Oliver Queen John Diggle

As the series’ final run, The Flash season 9 brought back many fan-favorite characters. Heroes like Green Arrow and Kid Flash met Barry one last time, with the returning villains that appeared throughout the season including an evil version of Batwoman, as well as the returns of Reverse-Flash, Bloodwork, and more. Ramamurthy’s Bloodwork was an even more formidable foe when he came back, with the character managing to have Barry Allen die in a brutal way by making Wally West one of his zombies and forcing him to kill the Flash with his vibrating fist. While Barry would later be resurrected by Oliver Queen, his short death was still shocking.

4 Savitar Kills H.R. Wells

Season 3, Episodes 22 & 23

Savitar stabbing someone in The Flash

Season 3 of The Flash was all about Team Flash trying to prevent Savitar from killing Iris. While Barry and the others had a set location, date, and time to plan for, Savitar was still able to murder Iris despite the team having had a whole season to prepare for that outcome. However, H.R. Wells switched places with Iris without warning the others, which led to the character being the one who was brutally stabbed to death by Savitar. Wells’ death was the final bow in the series of misfortunes that happened during The Flash‘s darkest season, motivating Barry to deal with Savitar once and for all.

3 Zoom Kills Jay Garrick Out Of Nowhere

Season 2, Episode 14

Teddy Sears’ Zoom, with Tony Todd voicing the character when he was masked, was one of The Flash‘s most powerful and exciting villains. Zoom was possibly the most frightening foe Barry went up against after the hero’s nemesis, the Reverse-Flash. Season 2 started by having Sears apparently play Jay Garrick, only for the character to get brutally murdered by Zoom, with the villain vibrating his arm through the speedster’s chest in a surprise attack. The moment came after Team Flash thought they had won, shocking everyone. The later reveal that it was not the real Jay Garrick but a time remnant of Zoom’s was equally shocking.

2 Reverse-Flash Impales Cisco Ramon’s With His Bare Hands

Season 1, Episode 15

Harrison Wells kills Cisco by phasing his hand through his chest

The Flash season 1 is held by many as the show’s best, and for good reason. The season perfectly set up the characters and relationships that would carry The Flash for its nine seasons, with Barry slowly developing his powers and fighting some iconic villains from the comics. The Flash season 1 featured multiple deaths, with one of its most brutal being Eobard Thawne killing Cisco. The death was brutal in two ways, with one of them being Reverse-Flash phasing his hand through Cisco’s chest, and the other that “Wells” pretended to care for Cisco, treating him like a son, just before killing him.

1 Reverse-Flash Stabs Nora Allen

Multiple Episodes

The Flash Season 1 Finale Barry Nora Allen

The most brutal death in The Flash is undoubtedly that of Barry’s mom. The night where Nora Allen was murdered by the Reverse-Flash was revisited by the series several times throughout The Flash‘s nine seasons. Barry goes from creating Flashpoint to save his mom’s life to having to accept that there is nothing that he can do to change what happened and even dissuading other versions of himself from attempting to change the past. Nora Allen’s death is brutal both due to the way that she died and how Barry seemingly could not escape his mother’s death no matter how many seasons of The Flash passed.
