10 Fantastic Four Supporting Characters We Want To See In MCU’s Reboot

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four will not only debut Marvel’s First Family in the MCU, but will also introduce some of the Fantastic Four’s best supporting characters. After Disney acquired the film rights to Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four following the 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed that Marvel’s First Family would be coming to the MCU. Years passed without much news regarding the highly-anticipated reboot, but The Fantastic Four’s main cast was finally revealed in February 2024, introducing acclaimed actors Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach into the MCU’s Phase 6.

While the introduction of the Fantastic Four themselves is hugely exciting for the MCU, the Marvel Studios reboot will also introduce a number of Fantastic Four-related characters from Marvel Comics. Rumors suggest Doctor Doom, Galactus and the Silver Surfer could be introduced as The Fantastic Four’s villains, and The Fantastic Four’s suspected 1960s setting creates the opportunity for past MCU characters to cameo. However, the lives of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm will also be fully fleshed out, as Marvel Studios will likely debut many of the Fantastic Four’s most iconic supporting characters from Marvel Comics.

Roberta Debuted In Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four #239 (1981)

The official announcement of The Fantastic Four’s cast confirmed that HERBIE would also appear in the Phase 6 project. HERBIE isn’t the Fantastic Four’s only robot assistant, however, as Reed Richards’ Mister Fantastic built Roberta to be the Baxter Building’s robot receptionist. Roberta protected the Baxter Building against any villains hoping to attack, including the Trapster, so she would make for an excellent addition to Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four.

How Could Roberta’s Debut Impact The MCU?

Roberta’s introduction into the MCU wouldn’t have too much of an impact on the franchise, but her retro design and advanced technology would help to solidify Reed Richards’ genius in The Fantastic Four. Richards is the smartest man alive, and his dabbling with robotics is just one thing that proves this. If Roberta is introduced in The Fantastic Four, Marvel Studios can really lean into the 1960s vibes of the project, and demonstrate Reed Richards’ genius from the get go.

Willie Lumpkin Debuted In Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four #11 (1963)

Willie Lumpkin is the Fantastic Four’s mailman in Marvel Comics, who bears a striking resemblance to the late Stan Lee. One of Stan Lee’s Marvel movie cameos, in fact, included him appearing as Willie Lumpkin in 2005’s Fantastic Four. Lumpkin found himself embroiled in several small adventures with the Fantastic Four, including being locked in a closet while the team battle the Super-Skrull, helping defeat the Mad Thinker and being mind-controlled by Doctor Doom. Lumpkin even briefly dated Peter Parker’s Aunt May.

How Could Willie Lumpkin’s Debut Impact The MCU?

Willie Lumpkin being introduced in The Fantastic Four would bring a sense of wonderful levity to the Phase 6 project. This could also act as an homage to Fantastic Four creator Stan Lee, as Lee and Lumpkin share many physical similarities. Sharon Ventura Debuted In Marvel Comics’ The Thing #27 (1985)

Stuntwoman Sharon Ventura first met Ben Grimm’s the Thing at the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation. Inspired by his strength, Ventura met with the Power Broker to enhance her strength, but unwittingly entered into experimentation by Dr. Karl Malus. Ventura managed to escape after becoming super-strong, and operated as Ms. Marvel for a while, but was later exposed to cosmic radiation and transformed into rock, similarly to Grimm, becoming She-Thing. She fought Doctor Doom, the Time Variance Authority and the Skrulls alongside the Fantastic Four, but was mutated into a more monstrous form by Doom, and later imprisoned in the Raft.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm will surely be struggling with his transformation in The Fantastic Four. However, Sharon Ventura’s alteration into She-Thing could soften the blow of his changed physique. Ventura could add empathetic and more human layers to Ben Grimm, creating the opportunity for him to show more vulnerable sides.

Lyja Debuted In Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four #265 (1984)

Lyja initially appeared as a shape-shifting Skrull attempting to infiltrate the Fantastic Four by masquerading as Ben Grimm’s love interest, Alicia Masters. Lyja replaced Masters during 1984’s Secret Wars event, and seduced Johnny Storm after the Thing decided to remain on Battleworld. Despite being a sometimes-villain, Lyja formed a close bond with Johnny Storm after her true Skrull form was revealed, though their relationship became strained prior to the Secret Invasion storyline.

Marvel Studios debuted the Skrulls in 2019’s Captain Marvel, though not as villains in the MCU, but as peaceful refugees. Since then, over a million Skrulls have sought refuge on Earth, with even more joining in The Marvels following Dar-Benn’s attack on Tarnax. This perfectly sets up Lyja’s introduction to the MCU, and her masquerading as some of the franchise’s most notable heroes could have a major impact on the MCU’s future, and that of the Fantastic Four.

Huntara Debuted In Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four #377 (1993)

Tara Richards, a.k.a. Huntara, is Reed Richards’ half-sister from an alternate Marvel universe, born to Nathaniel Richards when he found himself trapped on Earth-6311. As the protector of the timestream, Huntara eventually traveled to Earth-616, and battled the Fantastic Four. Later, however, Huntara formed her own Fantastic Four team following the deaths of Reed Richards and Doctor Doom, setting herself up as a crucial hero in the Fantastic Four team’s evolution.

How Could Huntara’s Debut Impact The MCU?

Huntara would be a fantastic character to debut in The Fantastic Four, as her introduction would expand on Reed Richards’ complicated family history. Tara is the daughter of Reed Richards’ time-traveling father, and in Marvel Comics, Kang the Conqueror is also a descendant of Nathaniel Richards, which would be an intense connection to explore in the MCU. Huntara could be key to battling Kang in the MCU’s Phase 6, though she may be introduced as a powerful villain first.

Alyssa Moy Debuted In Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four (Vol. 3) #5 (1998)

Alyssa Moy’s debut in the MCU could throw a spanner in the works of the relationship between Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm. Genius Alyssa Moy and Reed Richards dated while studying at university, but opted not to remain together as Moy wanted to spread their genius genetics further than just their own children. Alyssa remained in contact with Richards, but later expressed regret that they hadn’t married, though Richards chose to remain with Sue Storm.

The Fantastic Four has already been revealed to not be an origin story for the titular team, suggesting that Reed Richards and Sue Storm may already be married, and could already have children. She could even be the perfect genius-level villainous counterpart to Mister Fantastic.

Kristoff Vernard is Nathaniel Richards’ biological son, Reed Richards’ half-brother, and Victor Von Doom’s adoptive son, with the latter grooming him as his successor. Vernard, similarly to Huntara, would make for a brilliant villain in The Fantastic Four, particularly because of his personal connection to Reed Richards. He could also provide the perfect opportunity for Doctor Doom to debut in the MCU, though perhaps not as the direct villain of The Fantastic Four.

Kristoff Vernard’s MCU debut would bring Doctor Doom into the franchise after several years of speculation. However, Vernard may have a deeper purpose in the MCU, as he is also a direct ancestor of Kang the Conqueror, which could more clearly connect The Fantastic Four to the overarching narrative of the MCU. If Franklin and Valeria Richards expand Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s family in The Fantastic Four, Kristoff Vernard could do the same for Doctor Doom.

However, he is perhaps better known for his romantic involvement with Jennifer Walters’ She-Hulk, so his debut in The Fantastic Four could connect the titular team to this new MCU hero.

Tatiana Maslany debuted as Jennifer Walters in 2022’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and the series has already explored her quest for love. Wyatt Wingfoot’s debut in the MCU could solve this conundrum for her, and he could establish connections between She-Hulk and a number of other MCU heroes. This includes the Fantastic Four, the Black Panther, Bruce Banner’s Hulk and Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, among many others.

Her empathy toward humanity makes her a gentle presence among the Fantastic Four, so she’d be a brilliant addition to the MCU’s Phase 6.

Alicia Masters initially helped her villainous father to battle the Fantastic Four, but soon became a staunch ally to the team. This relationship could develop over a number of years, with the pair’s eventual marriage being depicted in the MCU, allowing audiences to connect to the Thing on a more human level.

Johnny Storm’s Human Torch could also find love in The Fantastic Four. Crystal’s long-running and complicated relationship with the Human Torch would be amazing to see on-screen, not least because this could show more loving and compassionate sides to the boisterous and cocky Johnny Storm, but also because this could bring Inhumans into the MCU. Marvel Studios’ first mention of Inhumans came during 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which debuted Earth-838’s Black Bolt. The species hasn’t appeared in the MCU’s main continuity, aside from in Agents of SHIELD, but The Fantastic Four could change this. Crystal introducing Inhumans would have a major impact on the MCU, redeeming mistakes of Marvel Television’s past, and allowing this vibrant and exciting species to finally get some justice.
