Whether it’s a sports movie, a big-budget sci-fi epic, or a simple cutesy animal movie, there are so many movies that could be easily converted into a video-game. There are so many Disney properties that would make great video-games for many reasons, but mostly because of how the movies work so hard at building vast worlds, and they’d be an absolute dream to freely explore.
Between the dense animated worlds, the live-action adventure movies, and sometimes both, in the hands of the right developer, these Disney IPs would make some of the most exciting video-games of the generation.
Wreck-It Ralph
Given that Wreck-It Ralph is already based on video-games, it only makes sense to turn the movie into a video-game. It’d be great to freely roam around in the extension cord, going from one game to another through the power cables.
The game could be made out of tons of smaller mini-games, such as the kart racing game where players can control Vanellope, and the first-person shooter where players control Sergeant Calhoun, and of course, Wreck-It Ralph itself. And though there are a lot of things that don’t make sense about the movie, they could all be explained in a video-game.
Mulan
Being one of the best action movies of 2020, there are few other Disney movies that would make a more exciting video-game. There’s a distinct lack of female protagonists in video games, and when there is a female protagonist, she’s often not shown the respect she deserves.
However, Mulan could change all of that, as the character is a fierce warrior and would add important representation that is often lacking from the gaming industry. Not only that but as Mulan is an imperial soldier, the movie would make for a great third-person action game. And players could control the incredible fight scenes for themselves, which is one of the things from the animated movie fans wish hadn’t changed.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
At the time of Atlantis: The Lost Empire’s development, Disney was completely in the business of animated musicals, as that was what was popular at the time. But the people working on Atlantis led the production of the movie with the motto, “fewer songs, more explosions,” which is one of the interesting facts about the movie.
And that’s exactly why it’d make a great video-game. It’d be something similar to No Man’s Sky, as it’s a space adventure that sees the protagonist encounter tons of different life forms and visits fantastical locations.
John Carter
John Carter is one of the movie flops that should have been a hit, but despite this the film had a high concept about a man who ends up on a barren planet run by 12 foot creatures.
The movie already sounds like a video-game, as the best games being released at the minute follow a similar structure, whether it’s Zero Dawn Horizon or Demon Souls 3. Given that the movie was such a failure, it’s the least likely of Disney’s movies to ever get a video-game, but it would certainly have been better if it was.
Tron
Tron already has a strong relationship with the video-game world, as the original 80s movie was inspired by the arcade game Pong, and the movie itself has gone on to inspire a slew of smaller online flash games. But there has never been a full-on video-game based on the movie.
As Tron is one of the forgotten 1980s sci-fi movies that was excellent, it showed off how great a video game could be almost 40 years ago. And the 2010 sequel might have been underwhelming, but it at least showed off some amazing visuals, and the whole concept of Tron fundamentally works better as a video game than it does a movie.
Cool Runnings
There are sports games that are released annually with very little changes. This leaves room for an exciting new game for genre, and Cool Runnings could be just that.
The movie might be decades old at this point, but the movie and its message is timeless. And the idea of players controlling a bob-sled going downhill at 150 kilometers per hour is a sense of speed unrivaled in any video-games.
Zootopia
Given that Zootopia has such a detailed environment with a living, breathing economy, there are so many possibilities of where a video-game tie-in could go. There are so many hidden details in the actual city of Zootopia that discovering them in an open-world game would be so thrilling.
A family-friendly Grand Theft Auto-type game is surely all parents want, as instead of mowing down pedestrians in a sports car, players are stopping Sloths from speeding around the city. There are also so many fascinating locations in the movie that are just begging to be fully fleshed out and explored in a proper video-game.
National Treasure
It has already been announced that there’s an Indiana Jones video game in development, and it may feel like treasure hunting fatigue if a National Treasure video game was to be developed too, but there’s nothing wrong with more Uncharted-like adventure games.
Stealing the Declaration of Independence in a video-game and other wild adventures from the film are things that gamers could only dream of. Also, the prospect of Nicolas Cage voicing the character in the game is too good not to pass up, and it might be the closest fans will ever come to getting a third National Treasure movie.
Herbie
There aren’t many racers out there besides the run-of-the-mill Need For Speed games, and Herbie could fill that gap in the market. But Herbie isn’t just a racing car. In previous movies, the VW Beetle with a mind of its own can be seen jousting, playing chicken, and even riding up to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Gamers might have already been able to free-roam around San Francisco in the fairly recent Watch Dogs 2, but riding around as Herbie with the car’s mystical powers would be second to none.
The Mighty Ducks
Another sports game that could break the mold, The Mighty Ducks would be such a fun game and could see gamers controlling some of the most exciting moments of the trilogy of movies.
Whether it’s first coming together and learning how to play as a team, playing against Finland in the Championship, or going up against college rivals, there’s so much energy and competitiveness in those scenes. On top of that, playing as the Bash Brothers would be the most fun an ice hockey game could ever get.
