10 Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter Song Cards To Put In Your Deck ASAP

10 Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter Song Cards To Put In Your Deck ASAP

Songs are some of the most interesting and powerful cards in Disney Lorcana, featuring frequently game-changing abilities while being uniquely easy to get out on the table. Songs can be played with an ink cost like anything else in the trading card game, but they can also be deployed by exerting characters already in play. With a wide variety of applications, many great Disney Lorcana decks can step up a notch by including a few key song cards.

The best songs in Disney Lorcana throw opponents off-balance without costing more than they’re worth. Some excellent ones are highly situational, fitting into specific styles of play, while others are good in essentially any scenario. Whether grabbing songs from a Disney Lorcana starter deck, pulling them from boosters, or purchasing individual options on the aftermarket, they can be a great investment to strengthen a deck.

10 Sudden Chill

10 Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter Song Cards To Put In Your Deck ASAP

Sudden Chill doesn’t have the biggest wow factor of any Disney Lorcana song card, but its low cost of two ink makes it a great inclusion for early-game play. Based on a lyric from the song “Cruella de Vil,” this song forces each opponent to select one card to discard. Like the ominous scene of Cruella’s arrival depicted in the card art, Sudden Chill can cause a solid upset, slimming down opponents’ hands to give them fewer options for play and potentially impeding their inkwell progress.

9 Let It Go

Let It Go Lorcana song card showing Elsa and ice magic.

The Let It Go card might not take the world of Disney Lorcana by storm in quite the same way that the song did nearly a decade ago, but it’s a strong choice all the same. Let It Go allows the player to choose one character that an opponent has in play and put it facedown and exerted in their inkwell, an ability that starts to look particularly appealing when an enemy card is causing unique trouble. Although it does add slightly to an inkwell, getting some of Disney Lorcana‘s most powerful cards off the table is well worth it.

8 Hakuna Matata

Hakuna Matata Lorcana song card showing Timon, Pumba, and Simba striding along a fallen tree.

Hakuna Matata allows up to 3 damage to be removed from each of a player’s characters in Disney Lorcana, a strong effect that varies in implementation depending on the situation. In a scenario where multiple powerful cards are down a bit of health, this is an extraordinary technique, but it’s not always going to find such a perfect application. Luckily, the card can be added to the inkwell, so keeping it in hand doesn’t pose much risk.

7 One Jump Ahead

One Jump Ahead Lorcana card showing Aladdin parachuting through Agrabah.

One of two songs from Aladdin included in Disney Lorcana, One Jump Ahead is less showy than its companion but plenty effective. Playing this song lets a card be taken from the top of the deck and placed in the inkwell facedown and exerted. With a cost of only two, this is another early-game option that shows its best side as an aggressive play for quick control. The ability to get two cards into the inkwell in a single turn can be a key advantage in a race to put powerful cards on the table.

6 Mother Knows Best

Mother Knows Best Lorcana card showing Rapunzel and Mother Gothel.

Mother Knows Best has a weaker effect than Let It Go’s similar play, but its cheaper cost of three ink makes it easier to throw out on the table to slow down progress. In a somewhat dark play on Mother Gothel’s cloistering manipulation in Tangled, Mother Knows Best allows a chosen character to be returned to a player’s hand. Interestingly, the fact that the card doesn’t specify an opponent makes it possible to use as an emergency heal, sacrificing a turn of utility to restore a powerful character to full fighting form.

5 Grab Your Sword

Grab Your Sword Lorcana song card showing Gaston's mob from Beauty and the Beast.

The Grab Your Sword song is great for sweeping the board clear of pesky lower Willpower cards, dealing two damage to each opposing character for a cost of five ink. This is also an effective way to weaken higher-level characters in Disney Lorcana, clearing the way for characters to deal the rest of the damage, or to finish off already damaged cards. Grab Your Sword’s effective power scales with how many opposing cards are laid out on the table, so although it might only be moderately effective against a couple of targets, it can be truly devastating when unleashed upon an extensive array.

4 Be Our Guest

Be Our Guest Lorcana song card showing Lumiere and Cogsworth.

With deck sizes of at least 60 cards, it can be hard to curate the perfect hand in Disney Lorcana. Be Our Guest goes a long way in making that happen, allowing a player to look at the top four cards of their deck, reveal a character card, and put it in their hand. The rest of the cards go to the bottom of the deck in any order. Although this does give the opponent a bit of extra information, at a cost of only two, Be Our Guest can help to ensure a good early game. It’s also inkable, meaning there’s no real downside to throwing it in a deck.

3 Be Prepared

Be Prepared Lorcana song card showing Scar above his army of hyenas.

Be Prepared comes at a high cost of seven ink, but its radical effects make it immediately obvious why the asking price is so steep. With the ability to banish all characters, Be Prepared essentially wipes the slate clean to set the stage for a comeback. This is a great way to destroy an opponent’s array of powerful combat cards or an effective setup for lore generation, although it’s only relevant if the playing field is uneven, as it also wipes the player’s cards. In the right scenario, however, Be Prepared is truly killer.

2 Friends On The Other Side

Friends On The Other Side Lorcana song card showing Dr. Facilier.

The devious Dr. Facilier’s friends on the other side might be dangerous to bargain with, but the song card Friends On The Other Side successfully avoids introducing any slippery slope. This three-drop song allows two cards to be drawn, a simple but undeniably effective technique to help bolster a dwindling hand in a Disney Lorcana aggro deck. It might not always hold the same value in Disney Lorcana as it does at the moment, but the generally slim pickings for cards that allow extra draws in most current decks makes it a surprising power player.

1 A Whole New World

A Whole New World Lorcana song card showing the magic carpet ride.

Like Be Prepared, A Whole New World is all about rewriting the current state of the game. At a cost of five, this Disney Lorcana song forces each player to discard their hand and draw seven new cards in its place. Although this could be middling under some circumstances, focusing a deck around aggressive play and then pulling out A Whole New World once a hand is almost depleted has draw power that nothing else compares to. It also plays extraordinarily well alongside the legendary Disney Lorcana card Belle: Strange but Special, making it a must-have for many Sapphire and Steel decks in Disney Lorcana.
