10 Directions The Breaking Bad Universe Should Go In After Better Call Saul, According To Reddit

Better Call Saul’s final episode is imminent, and it’s seemingly going to wrap up a franchise that’s been going longer than the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as creator Vince Gilligan explained that there are no plans for any more Breaking Bad series. The Breaking Bad universe is made up of two long-running TV series and a movie, El Camino. But even though that’s a lot of content, fans are finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that it’s finally coming to an end.

Despite Gilligan’s remarks, Redditors have taken it upon themselves to pitch what they think should happen after Better Call Saul wraps. And between a Bogdan-based sitcom and series about Brock searching for Jesse, the results range from absurd to genius.

Here’s Bogdan!

10 Directions The Breaking Bad Universe Should Go In After Better Call Saul, According To Reddit

_rake wants to see a spin-off based on one of the smallest side characters in the Breaking Bad universe, Bogdan. The character surprisingly hasn’t even featured in Better Call Saul yet, and as there’s only one episode to go, it’s seeming extremely unlikely. Nevertheless, the Redditor wants to see a show based on the character, and they even have a name for it, pitching, “Here’s Bogdon! A wacky sitcom about the car wash business.”

While the user could very well be being facetious, there’s really no knowing with Redditors, and their idea does actually have potential. After all, Bogdan is one of the best lowkey villains on the show, and the opening episode writes itself, as it’ll see Bogdan making his first dollar that was hanging on the wall of the car wash.

Lalo Prequel

Better Call Saul - Lalo and Nacho

Simplymatt1995 points to the MVP of Better Call Saul season 6, Lalo Salamanca. The Redditor notes, “A Narcos-esque Lalo spin-off is what I’m hoping for. Even with Gustavo Fring in both series, there’s no doubt that Lalo is the best villain in the universe. He speaks multiple languages, is great in combat and stealth, and above all else, he’s completely unpredictable.

That’s exactly why he would be a great subject for the next Breaking Bad-adjacent series. However, being another prequel set slightly before the events of Better Call Saul, which is already set slightly before the events of Breaking Bad, the universe will no doubt eventually run into some continuity issues. And in this case, it might be better to look forward instead of backward again.

The Adventures Of Badger And Skinny Pete

Badger and Skinny Pete together in the back of Walt's car

Therealbubbafresh420 comes up with a great idea about two of the most helpless but entertaining Breaking Bad characters. The Redditor pitches, “The Adventures of Badger and Skinny Pete. Takes place about 10ish years after BB and takes on a bit more of a sitcom format but is still somewhat serious (think Atlanta) and plot-oriented.”

An even better name could be The Best Hitmen West of the Mississippi, which would double as a reference to the last episode of Breaking Bad and as an ironic joke, as the two stoners aren’t the “best” at anything, unless it’s Skinny Pete playing the piano, that is. While they still need to appear in Better Call Saul, Skinny Pete showed that he does actually have great ideas in El Camino, and they could totally carry a dramedy by themselves.

An Anthology Series

Patrick Fabian as Howard in Better Call Saul

Anthology series have been becoming more popular lately, and one of the best examples of an anthology drama is Fargo, which is similar in tone to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. And while the similarities of the two universes and the fact that they’d both be on AMC could pose a problem, an anthology series, as Snuzdalu suggests, could work perfectly following Better Call Saul.

The Redditor posits, “Tales of Breaking Bad. One season for Mike. One for Gus. One for Howard. Final season for Lalo.” However, all those stories have ultimately been told in the two series, and an anthology series could instead be accounts and different perspectives of the Heisenberg myth in a post-Heisenberg Albuquerque.

Brock’s Revenge

Jesse, Andrea, and Brock in Breaking Bad

IkeCelica has an interesting and very Breaking Bad-esque idea about a fatherless teen that will undoubtedly be full of bloodshed. The Redditor speculates, “Brock is now a full-grown adult, and has held on to the letter Jesse gave him. Although Brock meant the world to Jesse, and he meant no harm to him or Andrea, brock doesn’t see it that way. Brock is on the pursuit of Jesse Pinkman and anything linking to him.”

Even today, 10 years after viewers last saw him, fans of the series still see Brock as a kid, but in actual fact, in real-time, Brock will be in his late teens or early 20s. Fans never did find out what was said in Jesse’s letter to Brock in El Camino, but it couldn’t have been anything other than a confession. And growing up in and around a criminal underworld where his mother was murdered, Brock would surely want revenge, and as everyone but Jesse is dead, there’s only one person he can go after.

Heisenberg Mockumentary

Bryan Cranston in Heisenberg outfit in Breaking Bad

NeutralEvilBae is one of the few who doesn’t pitch another series, but a movie. However, it isn’t exactly in the vein of El Camino, as the Redditor posits, “I would want to see a movie-length in-universe mockumentary that gives all the details of Heisenberg’s rise and fall from power from the media and police’s perspective.”

While Hank was a DEA agent, there was never any kind of authoritative figure with an opinion about what was going on in the universe. And as El Camino and the final episodes of Better Call Saul depicted the aftermath of Breaking Bad as a witchhunt for anyone related to Heisenberg, the user’s pitch could make for an interesting movie. Though a mockumentary might not exactly be the right tone.

Mike Prequel

Mike arrives at Beneke Fabricators to pull out Walt

A prequel about Mike’s time on the force is one of the most popular ideas out there, and it’s one that fans want to see the most. BusterbluthOT has the most distinct vision of the show, commenting, “Honestly I think I’d prefer just a completely new and only conceptually related prequel with Mike in Philly PD and his son.”

The series would be great and unique from every other BB-related project, as it’d recast a much younger actor to play a leaner and younger Mike, and it’d have a period setting of the 1980s. It’d also be the first project to be set outside of Albuquerque, as Mike worked on the force in Philadelphia. As “Five-O,” which is a Mike-centric episode that’s set in the past, is one of the best Saul episodes, there’s such a huge demand for the hypothetical series.

Land Of Enchantment

Bryan Cranston as Walter White in Breaking Bad with barrels of money

Ghostcraft413 has an out-there idea about an outsider finding Walt’s millions and names it Land of Enchantment. The Redditor posits, “Late 2010, in the midst of a power vaccum left by the Heisenberg downfall, a man stumbles across the missing 70 million dollars, becoming subject of a manhunt by drug cartels and numerous other criminal organizations and law enforcement.”

Speaking of Fargo, this is almost identical to the premise of season 1 of the show. On top of that, Jack stole all but $9 million of Walt’s money, which means it must have been hidden somewhere in Jack’s compound. However, while it’s safe to say that the police found it, the BB universe is known for subverting expectations, and anything can happen.

The Black Book

Bob Odenkirk as Saul in Breaking Bad and black book in Better Call Saul

The black book is clearly going to have an important role in the final episode of Better Call Saul, as it was mentioned in one scene earlier in season 6 and never mentioned again. It’s Chekhov’s Gun of the series, meaning that if a gun (or in this case, a book full of criminal contacts) is shown, then it has to be used.

MVE3 thinks the book can be the central focus of its own series. The Redditor explains that the series could be “about everyone in the vet’s book, each with intertwined stories in the universe set like Pulp Fiction how they all intertwine.” If another series is so closely tied to Heisenberg, it might feel like beating a dead horse, and the black book is a great way of expanding the universe while drawing attention away from Walter White.

Grey Matter

Walter threatens Elliot and Gretchen in their home in Breaking Bad

Optimus_Joe wants to see a series about Grey Matter, which, on the face of it, doesn’t sound all that interesting, but they have a great pitch. The Redditor suggests, “A show about Elliot and Gretchen and how the entire company was/is a sham since Walt left. The entire company is like Theranos and the two are just trying to keep ahead of being found out.”

It might be hard to make a whole show out of Grey Matter trying to stay afloat, but if it follows the Better Call Saul formula by being set both before and after Breaking Bad, it could be great. And it’d mean that fans would see more of the wholesome Walter White before he broke bad too. Not only that, but it’d answer one of the biggest unanswered questions about Breaking Bad, which is whether or not Gretchen and Elliot did end up giving Walt Jr. the $9 million.
