10 DCU Roles Perfect For Timothée Chalamet

10 DCU Roles Perfect For Timothée Chalamet

There are several brilliant DC Universe characters who could be portrayed by Timothée Chalamet, after his recent comments have sparked casting speculation. After making his feature debut in 2014’s Men, Women & Children, American and French actor Timothée Chalamet rose to international prominence with roles in Interstellar, Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird and Bones and All. More recently, Chalamet has starred as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and its sequel, Dune: Part Two, setting himself up as one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, but he hasn’t yet claimed a role in a superhero franchise.

During an interview with The New York Times, Timothée Chalamet revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio had warned him to avoid superhero movies. Despite this, Chalamet noted that “if the script was great, [and] if the director was great,” he’d consider it nonetheless. This perhaps creates the opportunity for Chalamet to join James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe, which will kick off with Creature Commandos and Waller in 2024, though Superman: Legacy is the DCU’s first feature film, releasing in 2025. There are several brilliant DC Comics characters that would be a perfect fit for Timothée Chalamet in the DCU.

Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, “No superhero movies, no hard drugs.” Which I thought was very good. I follow them both! But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, “The Dark Knight.” If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it.

10 Timothée Chalamet Has The Perfect Look For Conner Kent’s Superboy

Conner Kent Is A Clone Of Superman In DC Comics

Kon-El, known as Conner Kent, a.k.a. Superboy, was first introduced into DC Comics in 1993’s The Adventures of Superman #500, and his strikingly similar appearance to Timothée Chalamet makes this an inspired casting. Conner Kent was created by Project Cadmus in the wake of Superman’s death, with Clark Kent and Lex Luthor’s DNA being spliced to create a human-Kryptonian hybrid clone. Superboy’s abilities are weaker than his namesake, but still incredibly strong, so he would be a great role for Timothée Chalamet in the upcoming DCU, particularly with David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor already having been confirmed.

9 Mister Miracle Would Be A Powerful DC Hero For Chalamet

Mister Miracle Is One Of DC Comics’ New Gods

Mister Miracle as a powerful New God in DC Comics

Introduced as one of DC Comics’ New Gods in 1971’s Mister Miracle #1, Scott Free, a.k.a. Mister Miracle, is a remarkably powerful hero, potentially setting up a crucial role for Timothée Chalamet. After Free’s father and Darkseid exchanged heirs to prevent war, Mister Miracle was raised in a torturous environment, with no knowledge of his true heritage. Chalamet has demonstrated his ability to portray this duality between darkness and heroism, as several of his previous roles also strike this balance. Mister Miracle eventually became a member of the Justice League International, which may have been teased for a DCU debut.

8 Klarion The Witch Boy Could Give Timothée Chalamet A Very Active Role

Klarion Is A Powerful Young Villain To Several DC Comics Heroes

While Timothée Chalamet could certainly portray a powerful hero in the DC Universe, there are several villainous characters that Chalamet would be perfect for. For instance, Chalamet and Klarion the Witch Boy share many physical attributes, including their slender frames and black hair, making the mischievous sorcerer a fantastic match for the actor. Klarion debuted in DC Comics’ The Demon #7 in 1973, and has battled heroes like Wonder Woman, Batman, Mary Marvel and the Flash, since then. Klarion would be a fun character for Chalamet to portray in the DCU, though it’s unclear whether the extradimensional warlock will appear.

7 Garth’s Tempest Could Reinvent Aquaman For The DCU

Tempest Was Originally Known As The First Incarnation Of Aqualad

Garth as Tempest using his power in DC Comics

Garth made his DC Comics debut as Aqualad in 1960’s Adventure Comics #269, introduced as the Atlantean protégé and adopted son of Arthur Curry’s Aquaman. Jason Momoa won’t be returning as Aquaman in the DC Universe, but it’s likely the aquatic superhero will eventually be reinvented in the new franchise, creating the opportunity for his younger counterpart to also be introduced. Timothée Chalamet would be fantastic in this role, as he’s young enough to remain in the DCU for years, allowing Garth to evolve from Aqualad into the guise of Tempest, and potentially join future Teen Titans or Titans teams.

6 Scarecrow Would Allow Chalamet To Reimagine His Superhero Inspiration

The Brave & The Bold Could Explore Scarecrow’s Origin Story

Dr. Jonathan Crane, a.k.a. Scarecrow, is one of Batman’s most enduring enemies in DC Comics, having been a prominent threat to the Caped Crusader since his debut in 1941’s World’s Finest Comics #3. While some may struggle to imagine Timothée Chalamet as a psychology professor-turned-Master of Fear, Chalamet is the same age that Cillian Murphy was during filming for 2005’s Batman Begins, in which Murphy portrayed Scarecrow opposite Christian Bale’s Batman. Chalamet certainly has the dark appearance of this tortured villain, and more dramatically-heavy roles in Beautiful Boy, Bones and All and Dune prove he’d do this haunting character justice.

5 Plastic Man Could Give Chalamet The Opportunity To Show His Comedy Skills

Plastic Man Has Been A Member Of DC Comics’ Justice League

Eel O’Brian’s Plastic Man was one of DC Comics’ first heroes to incorporate humor, so Timothée Chalamet could be given the opportunity to test his comedy skills. Chalamet’s previous roles in comedic projects such as Men, Women & Children, Worst Friends and The French Dispatch prove that he has the charisma for this role, and this could see him join powerful superhero teams, including the DCU’s Justice League. Plastic Man first appeared in 1941’s Police Comics #1, introduced with a super-elasticity ability similar to that of Marvel Comics’ Mister Fantastic, so this could be a hugely entertaining role for Chalamet.

4 Timothée Chalamet Would Excel As The DCU’s Dream

Dream Is An Incredibly Powerful Character In DC Comics

As the anthropomorphic personification of dreams and stories, DC Comics’ Dream is a remarkably powerful hero that could see Timothée Chalamet inhabit the DCU’s weirder corners. Created by Neil Gaiman for 1989’s The Sandman (Vol. 2) #1, Dream usually appears as a tall, slender man with black hair and bone-white skin, which fits Chalamet’s aesthetic perfectly. Chalamet would also be able to exhibit Dream’s stoicism, insensitivity and humorless personality, creating a sinister but likable hero with an extreme level of strength. Nevertheless, it’s unclear whether Dream will be adapted for the DCU, as he currently appears in Netflix’s The Sandman.

3 Dick Grayson’s Nightwing Could Debut After The Brave & The Bold

Dick Grayson Was The First Robin In DC Comics

Dick Grayson debuted in 1940’s Detective Comics #38 as the first iteration of Robin, the child sidekick to Batman, but he eventually abandoned this moniker and evolved into Nightwing. The DCU’s The Brave and the Bold will include Damian Wayne’s Robin, so Timothée Chalamet could appear as the previous holder of the mantle. At almost 30-years-old, Chalamet may be too old to portray Damian Wayne, but a hardened Nightwing could be the perfect casting for the actor, particularly since this could lead to his transformation into a future version of Batman, giving Chalamet an even larger role in the DCU.

2 Timothée Chalamet Could Be The Perfect Flash Replacement In The DCU

Ezra Miller Won’t Be Returning As Barry Allen’s Flash In The DCU

DC Comics’ Barry Allen was roughly 25-years-old when he became the Flash, making Timothée Chalamet the perfect age to assume this key role in the DCU. Previously portrayed by Grant Gustin in The CW’s Arrowverse and Ezra Miller in the DCEU, forensic chemist Barry Allen became the Scarlet Speedster after being exposed to unspecified chemicals, unlocking his ability to access the Speed Force and move at incredible speeds. Miller won’t be returning as the Flash in the DCU, but the hero plays a major role in many iconic DC Comics storylines, so Chalamet could be recast as this popular superhero.

1 Timothée Chalamet Has Been Fan-Cast As The Brave & The Bold’s Damian Wayne

Damian Wayne Will Make His Live-Action Debut In The Brave & The Bold

When James Gunn confirmed the development of The Brave and the Bold back in January 2023, Timothée Chalamet became a popular choice to portray Damian Wayne’s Robin. Even though Chalamet is likely too old to portray Damian Wayne, this casting is still possible, as Chalamet has a similar physical appearance to Damian Wayne, and has portrayed younger characters in many of his previous roles. Damian Wayne is the son of Batman and Talia al Ghul, and could be set up to have a major role in the DCU’s future, so this would mark a powerful superhero debut for Timothée Chalamet.
