Since the dawn of internet movie journalism, there have been rumors and reports flying around the web on the latest castings and storylines for upcoming movies. Some to generate clicks for unsuspecting movie fans and some are genuine from sources that are passionate about delivering accurate movie news. There are also those rumors that fans hear and hope are false.
As pieces of news climb the ladder of reliability from rumors to reports, to confirmation from the studio or actors themselves, it’s an exciting time for die-hard fans to finally see their dreams play out on the big screen, such as their favorite actor as a menacing DC villain or the director’s cut of a movie that emerged from a simple Twitter hashtag.
Joe Manganiello As Deathstroke
As one of the greatest DC/Batman villains, the Reddit murmurs of Warner Brothers having cast Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke put fans on the edge of their seats as their imaginations ran wild with the thought of Joe Manganiello facing off against Ben Affleck’s Batman.
Sure enough, at the end of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deathroke accompanies Lex Luthor on his yacht and removed his helmet to reveal Manganiello, confirming his appearance in another upcoming DC movie.
Jesse Eisenberg As Lex Luthor
Before the casting was confirmed, when fans initially heard of Jesse Eisenberg’s casting as Lex Luthor, safe to say some were apprehensive compared to other actors that were rumored for the role. Not because of Eisenberg’s acting talent by any means, but more so because of the previous role’s that Eisenberg was known for versus the personality of Lex Luthor.
Although the initial theatrical version of the film was controversial for a few reasons, it seems as though most fans were pleasantly surprised by Eisenberg in the role.
Superman Wears The Black Suit
All of Henry’s Superman suits have been visually stunning, and fans did get a brief glimpse of the black version in Man of Steel, which has its own enhanced properties. But it was rumored by sources including but not limited to IRM online, that there was a scene in Justice League where Cavill donned a slightly updated version of the dark suit.
The suit was originally seen in a deleted scene that was released on the DVD of Clark Kent walking through his Kryptonian ship and the black suit reveals itself, only for him to wear the red and blue suit on screen. But Zack Snyder streamed a version where Henry approaches Alfred wearing the black suit, confirming the speculation.
Flashpoint
One of The Flash’s most famous storylines that the CW show, centering around the same character, has already included in its show is Flashpoint, which was reportedly revealed at SDCC back in 2017. In Flashpoint, The Flash runs back in time to save his mother from being killed by the reverse flash and is successful, but at a cost.
Even though his mother is alive, there are numerous changes to life as he knows it when he returns to his own time, such as the fact that Thomas Wayne is Batman after the death of his son Bruce. The use of some version of this storyline for the Flash movie was initially rumored, but has since been confirmed.
Batman Solo Film Getting A Brand New Script
The level of excitement for Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie was unmatched after fans were pleasantly surprised at his performance as the caped crusader, and now everyone could not wait to see him in his solo adventure, perhaps even a series on HBO Max would satisfy most fans hungry for more Batfleck.
But one thing that diluted the excitement was the number of rumors surrounding the movie’s production. There were numerous whispers of script changes before it was then reported that the whole movie was getting a brand new script, making some fans worry about the beloved Batfleck solo movie.
Ben Affleck Out As Batman
Ben Affleck was announced as Batman in August of 2013 and starred as the caped crusader in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, with a cameo in Suicide Squad. Then after the reception of Justice League, there were numerous rumors going around that Ben Affleck was out as Batman and would not return for any future projects.
There was already a Batman solo movie on the cards that was reported to both star and be directed by Affleck, combining arguably the best on-screen Batman with a brilliant director. However, Affleck confirmed the news of his Batman retirement on the press tour for The Way Back. Will Pattinson be better, worse, or just as good as Affleck? Only time will tell.
Wonder Woman Will Be Shown On Streaming Platforms
In a year of cinematic uncertainty, there were plenty of reports and rumors that the Wonder Woman: 1984 release date was going to be pushed back further and further in the hopes that fans would be able to experience the movie in the theaters as the studio, cast and crew had hoped.
The nature of the film’s release was very much up in the air until fairly recently when it was officially announced that the sequel will be shown in theaters and available at home for fans to view.
Jared Leto Going Method To Play Joker
Many actors have gone method for certain roles. Christian Bale with his drastic weight changes, Daniel Day-Lewis not showering for the entirety of shooting. Now Jared Leto has been added to that list, as there were murmurs that he sent some very strange packages to his co-stars.
These rumors were confirmed by the rest of the cast of Suicide Squad where it was revealed that he sent adult toys (amongst other used items) to identify with the Joker, and his bizarre preparation didn’t end there.
Ben Affleck Returning As Batman
Ben Affleck’s bout as Batman was not only a roller coaster ride for him, but for fans as well, as they were caught in a tornado of rumors of him being out as Batman, then back as Batman before the sad news was confirmed by Affleck himself that he was not going to be Batman anymore.
When Robert Pattinson took over the role of the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ solo movie being released next year, it seemed to confirm the news. Until it was rumored and then confirmed that Ben Affleck will return as Batman in the upcoming Flash movie.
The Snyder Cut
Rumors of the Snyder Cut started circling after fans had tweeted their support for the director’s edition of the film since the initial theatrical release of Justice League, which put a sour taste in some fan’s mouths.
Then, on the 4th of December Zack Snyder took to Vero, a platform that he regularly uses to communicate with fans to post a photo to confirm, to fans delight, that his cut of the film exists, it will be released next year, and could change the DCEU as fans know it.
