10 Console Exclusive Games That Deserve A PC Port

With God of War Ragnarök dominating the 2022 Game Awards due to its smooth gameplay and ingenuity, many PC players wish the original God of War from 2005 would be ported to PC. This isn’t just because of the nostalgia of replaying the finely aged game or the endless possibilities of fun mods that would come with the port, but also due to the potential of a more advanced exploration opportunity in its detailed world.

Prompted by a question from boytisoy, Redditors have spoken up about which console-exclusive games deserve the full PC treatment, lighting the way for the hope of reinvigorated gameplay and a slew of awesome mods that could regenerate the greatness of these titles.

Uncharted (2007)

10 Console Exclusive Games That Deserve A PC Port

Although Uncharted has already been remastered by Bluepoint for PS4, PC players are certain that porting the game would make an undeniable difference. Tarpaulinator commented: “I know Sony doesn’t want to spend the money, but having 1-3 remade in Uncharted 4 graphics and then released on PC would be awesome.”

Despite other fans saying an Uncharted reboot would be pointless, the Reddit user has a point. Porting the game to PC would refine character models while also assisting visuals with a more advanced lighting engine, luring in new fans to the franchise who gained interest due to the 2022 Uncharted film, and giving loyal fans an even better blast from the past. For now, bringing the first game of the series up to speed with its successors by refining clunky character animations and expanding constricted areas is just a dream.

God Of War (2005)

The original God of War saw Kratos point his Blades of Chaos at Ares and unleash 1,000 years of godly secrets in an awe-inspiring fashion for its time, creating a game series with no bad entries to this day. But that doesn’t mean its fiery world couldn’t be improved with a PC port. Redditor maroktheoriginal spoke from the heart and many others agreed, saying, “I have nostalgia and love for [the] games and would absolutely love if it ever officially came to PC.

A major downside of being a single-player action-adventure game is that players have no reason to keep playing the game after it’s beaten. However, porting the beginning of the God of War series to PC would give the games seemingly endless prospects when taking mods into account. On top of removing the linear progression that suppressed players from fully exploring environments, the games could run swiftly, even with detailed surroundings and a load of enemies on screen, which caused the original games to become choppy.

Infamous (2009)

The Infamous game series have consistently had PC owners begging for a port, having one of Sucker Punch studio’s best endings. A change to its morality system that shows a larger difference between the blue lightning-wielding Cole and the ghostly red evil one would be a great addition to a PC version. It also has one of the most original traveling mechanics ever, which allowed players to glide through the air using Cole’s astounding electric abilities on power lines, Infamous would have its fun maximized if ported.

While the game hasn’t any serious gameplay issues, things like building textures dropping when rocketing about the city and pop-ins to unavoidable frame rate drops are much more noticeable on the replay. Mods could fix the many issues that come with a sandbox-style game, giving the player more to do by adding to the game’s world with more realistic elements and polished cutscenes. One Reddit user concurred, sharing, “Infamous 1 and 2 need to be on PC.”

Ghost Of Tsushima (2020)

Considered one of the best story-driven games ever, Ghost of Tsushima fans have been calling for a PC port more than ever. The historical fiction game, concentrating on samurai warrior Jin Sakai’s struggle to free Japan from the Mongolians, already has breathtaking graphics and polished gameplay that could only be perfected further by a port to PC.

One Reddit user swears this to be true, noting: “Started it, loved it, got distracted and am now definitely waiting to play on my 3080 over my base PS4 lol. It’s going to look sensational, it already bloody did.” Ghost of Tsushima‘s engaging combat and ground-breaking visuals set in a vibrant open world could make another amazing leap forward with a PC port, and it’s rumored to be receiving a Steam release in the near future.

Shadow Of The Colossus Remake (2015)

One of the best story-driven games on PS2, when Shadow of the Colossus finally got its PS4 makeover in 2015, fans could barely contain their excitement. After reviving the action-adventure game and its surprisingly dark narrative of a man in a dystopian world full of stone beasts, gamers were left only to wonder how beautiful its graphics would look on PC.

Players like agentfrogger have pleaded: “Sony please port [Shadows of the Colossus] remake.” Anyone who has ever experienced the masterpiece knows that its visuals are like the beating heart of the game, cradling the story with its somber setting in a way that is unforgettable. Porting this classic to PC would introduce a wider audience, since it has only been on Sony consoles, and also assist it in conserving the franchise.

Bloodborne (2015)

One of the harshest realities of replaying Bloodborne is that it still hasn’t made it to PC, thus holding back its truly phenomenal potential. When it was released, its graphics were magnificent, but it lost a bit of its luster over time. Xuval stated: “Honestly, at this point Bloodborne is so obviously missing from PC, there has got to be an external (likely stupid) reason that prevents the PC port from happening.”

When jumping from the Demon’s Souls remake or Elden Ring back to Bloodborne, there is a noticeable difference in graphics, which can make enemies much harder to detect. PC mods could re-mold the action role-playing game several magnitudes better than on PS4, making it much more comparable to the newer SoulsBorne games, while fueling character and weapon customization.

Lost Odyssey (2007)

Though Lost Odyssey is considered one of the best JRPGs of all time for its distinct dystopian story of an immortal man with no memories fighting for a better future and gorgeous aesthetic, it feels to have been left in the dust completely. Commenter techno-wizardry swears the game needs a PC port: “Underrated classic, the thousand years of dreams passages were incredible. Really should be ported to something.”

The game is being removed from the Xbox 360 online store, so porting the game to PC would do well in saving the gem from falling into obscurity. The turn-based game’s menu system has aged poorly and could benefit from a new system that doesn’t affect level caps that allow the player very little XP for each battle. Furthermore, the weapons of Lost Odyssey are in desperate need of a rework as they are unappealing with no special abilities, and performance issues like frame rate drops are not uncommon.

The Metal Gear Series

Snake hides behind a tank in Metal-Gear Solid (1998)

Some of the best stealth games of all time came directly from the Metal Gear series, which is why fans like Seasidejoe exclaimed that they want: “Not just one but the entire Metal Gear series,” ported to PC. The franchise began in 1998, so it’s understandable the aged games don’t hold up. It’s not to say that these titles aren’t still masterpieces with revolutionary stealth mechanics and groundbreaking boss fights, though they undoubtedly need fine-tuning.

Upscaled, HD character models and improved A.I. would be an unbelievable sight to behold for longtime fans and new players. Also, making Snake playable throughout Metal Gear 2 instead of just Raiden would be a perfect incentive for players to experience an improved version. Even better, porting a Twin Snakes remake (which is stuck on GameCube), could give the franchise even more exposure, because of its first-person view and creative use of environmental stealth props to sneak past Shadow Moses.

Perfect Dark Xbox Live Arcade Remaster (2000)

A remastered game that improved significantly when compared to the original, Perfect Dark Xbox Live Arcade breathes life back into Joanna Dark and was ahead of its time. The first-person shooter consists of uncovering an alien conspiracy, venturing to exotic places, and using cool gear to eliminate enemies. Despite its acclaimed multiplayer and wide array of weapons with smooth mechanics, a PC port could be just what the franchise needs.

Deutsch__Dingler admitted: “Perfect Dark XBLA Remaster, Rare Replay should have had a PC port by now.” The sheer amount of content included could be upgraded, letting the online multiplayer become more robust and expand functionality that was lost, like NPC mouths that don’t move while speaking and vague mission objectives. Lastly, playing on mouse and keyboard would be an instantly sensational experience, given how satisfying the gameplay is.

Red Dead Redemption (2010)

Known for its realistic historical world and Western movie references, Red Dead Redemption showcases what being a cowboy is all about: braving the frontier as an outlaw and surviving by the skin of their teeth. The American Frontier title has reached the highest of heights since 2010 but still is absent from Steam. Gamer gg_laverde shared: “I always wanted to play the original [on PC],” an opinion that continues to grow in popularity.

The Rockstar game is revered for its bountiful extensiveness upon its release but now fails to feature the same level of polish expected from its developer. Sure, there are the occasional bug and game freezes caused by the graphics engine being unable to keep up with the pace of Red Dead Redemption‘s dramatic action. However, what bothers fans the most are the countless number of missed opportunities for PC mods that could enhance gameplay with heavily detailed environments, weapon customization, and even changing what creature the cowboy is riding.
