Sometimes going back and watching your favorite shows from your childhood is the best way to pass the time and will bring on a wave of nostalgia as viewers get to reminisce about their youth. Thanks to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max, that is now totally doable without the pains of scouring the internet for your favorites.
Shows like Teen Titans and Drake & Joshweren’t available to watch anywhere before these streaming services, so going back to watch the classics was next to impossible (unless you found a bad copy online or part one of thirteen videos on YouTube). But just because some of our childhood favorites are on streaming services, doesn’t mean that they all can be easily found.
Courage The Cowardly Dog
Courage the Cowardly Dog is a great example of a children’s show that seems to be lost to the streaming world. This series was actually put up on Netflix for an extremely short time span before being taken down.
This series is a fan favorite as it is incredibly spooky and definitely haunted the dreams of some of its young viewers. Many fans expected this series to be in HBO Max’s new roster since Cartoon Network shows are featured on there, but this doesn’t seem to be the case for Courage, Eustace, and Muriel.
Ed, Edd n Eddy
Like Courage, Ed, Edd n Eddy is another series that many fans assumed would be added to the streaming service, only to be sorely incorrect.
This classic is about three friends who all live in a culdesac and try different methods of earning (and sometimes stealing) money from the other kids in the neighborhood in order to buy themselves jawbreakers. The characters from this series are utterly hilarious and are deeply memorable to anyone who watched the series growing up.
Johnny Bravo
Johnny Bravo is another classic as it follows a big, confident man who was loosely based on Elvis. He is a suave, muscular if not dimwitted man who assumes every woman wants him, and every man wants to be him.
Johnny Bravo, as a character, was extremely hilarious and fun to watch as he exuded macho energy but always managed to get turned down by the women he was after. It is also revealed that Johnny has a pretty big heart as he is always ending up helping Little Suzy, though he often forgets her name.
Xiaolin Showdown
Xiaolin Showdown was a super fun and amazing series on Kids’ WB that began in 2003. The series follows a group of four young martial arts students, each representing the four elements. Omi was water, Kimiko fire, Raimundo was wind, and Clay was Earth.
The four students travel around the world trying to collect magical artifacts that will aid them in battle before they fall into the evil hands of Jack Spicer and his ghostly manipulator, Wuya. This show was so fun and had a really solid ending that would make it totally worth the rewatch.
Danny Phantom
Fan-favorite series about a ghost boy saving the world, Danny Phantom was one of the most popular shows of the era. This series originally was available on Hulu, along with many of the other Nickalodean classics, but was recently taken down.
This show follows Danny Fenton, a 14-year-old boy who accidentally became half-ghost. As a ghostly superhero saving Amityville, Danny must balance living and fighting as the Ghost Boy and his own life of being a high school student. This show has some of the best side characters as well, like Sam Manson and Tucker Foley, who aid Danny through all of his hardships. Hulu, or any streaming service, definitely needs to bring this beloved series back.
Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy is another spooky classic. Grim, the Grim Reaper, get roped up in becoming the best friend and slave to dimwitted (and kind of gross) Billy, and his cynical, callous best friend, Mandy by losing a bet in limbo.
Billy and Mandy end up going on a ton of adventures with Grim, who slowly comes to care for the two brats. But Grim continuously has a love-hate relationship with the pair and dreams of one day being freed from her life-long servitude.
Codename: Kids Next Door
This Cartoon Network classic is still unavailable to stream on every platform but still seems to be a favorite nonetheless. This show focuses a group of five 10-year old kids who are all part of a larger child-based espionage group called The Kids Next Door.
The main characters work out of a massive treehouse to stop the mistreatment of children caused by adults, such as doing homework or mowing the lawn. The kids fight adults and villains using super cool spy gear, and have vastly different personalities but still get along great.
W.I.T.C.H.
W.I.T.C.H. was a super cool show on Disney’s Jetix that followed five totally normal girls who become the Guardians of the Veil with powers to manipulate the elements.
This show is like Sailor Moon and Avatar: The Last Airbender combined but with fairy-like heroines and mythical worlds. This show was one of those series that is still often spoken of today and made remembered by all the fans who watched it.
The Adventures Of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius
The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius aired on Nickelodeon about a year after the success of the movie was released. The show followed Jimmy and his friends on more adventures, filled with brain blasts and adding deeper complexities to the characters of the show.
Jimmy and his friends manage to get into messes all the time and it is up to him to solve all of their problems with his different gadgets and high intelligence. The movie is streamable on Netflix currently, but the series is, unfortunately, nowhere to be found.
Kappa Mikey
Kappa Mikey was unlike any other comedy series of its time. This Nickelodeon series followed Mikey, an American boy who becomes Japan’s number-one anime star due to winning a scratch-off contest to be the star of a new anime called “LilyMu.”
The series follows Mikey and his co-stars as they show their in-show and out-of show personalities. Mikey is meant to play the main hero but is really a giant doof who is still trying to fit into his new life.
