10 Characters BoJack Horseman Hurt The Most

It has been about a year since the completion of BoJack Horseman, but viewers still cannot get over it. This ultimately is quite understandable, as this show would continue to find ways to impact us throughout its entire run. Yet, what is most intriguing is the fact that its title character never seemed to treat the people who cared most about him with any degree of respect.

Thus, it would become quite challenging to root for him at times. In fact, there are so many deplorable actions that we would see from him. However, the showrunners managed to make the audience want to see him progress as an individual. However, it is simply impossible to ignore how much damage he caused to others.

Let’s go over a few examples where this is made abundantly clear.

Diane

10 Characters BoJack Horseman Hurt The Most

BoJack was a negative influence on Diane’s life throughout the entirety of the series. Perhaps the biggest reason behind this was the fact that their mutual pessimism would rub off on one another far too frequently.

To get into specifics, BoJack kissed Diane while she was married to Mr. Peanut Butter. Although she quickly rejected him, this moment would be a starting point to the end of their marriage. BoJack simply caused far too much stress as the series progressed as well, which naturally led to them drifting apart.

Gina

Upon first glance, viewers likely felt a bit of optimism when BoJack and Gina started dating. However, this would all quickly change, as BoJack fell immensely deep into his addiction and alcoholism. This would inevitably lead to one of his worst moments from the entire series.

This is the lone character that BoJack caused physical harm to, as while under the influence on set, he choked Gina. This would lead to the completion of their relationship, but the trauma it left on Gina was naturally rather significant.

Todd

BoJack would show time and time again that he simply was unable to appreciate the people around him. One could argue that this was most evident with Todd. This is somebody who was supposed to be his best friend, but he constantly acted like he hated him.

BoJack seemed to always aim to take Todd down, both emotionally and even professionally. A prime example of this was when he completelyly ruined Todd’s rock opera, which was his biggest dream. Also, one cannot forget how BoJack slept with his former love interest, Emily. Todd’s loyalty to BoJack, however, never seemed to fully go away.

Hollyhock

BoJack talk to Hollyhock in BoJack Horseman.

When first introduced, we as the viewers were tricked into thinking Hollyhock was BoJack’s daughter. Of course, this was not the case, as she actually was his half-sister due to their father’s infidelity. BoJack worked immensely hard to be a positive influence on her, which was admirable. In fact, her nice and positive nature seemed like it could benefit BoJack.

Yet, in typical BoJack fashion, he would end up sabotaging their relationship. This was due to the fact that the worst of BoJack’s past came out to the public. Hollyhock would write him a letter that the audience would not be able to read, but it alluded to her understandably cutting ties with him.

Princess Carolyn

Princess Carolyn and BoJack would go on to date for a number of years, but due to his inability to commit, they would eventually break up entirely. BoJack led her on for so long, but that does not even take the full cake with her.

As his agent, Princess Carolyn put in so much effort to pick up the messes BoJack would constantly make. Yet, even with her continued loyalty to him, BoJack was so unappreciative. Their dynamic would absolutely restrict Princess Carolyn from being able to fully live her life independently.

Sharona

BoJack and Sharona on BoJack Horseman

Sharona’s time on the show may have been short, but it is apparent that BoJack did quite a number on her. However, it should be noted that she was the person who actually encouraged BoJack to start drinking alcohol during tapings of Horsin’ Around.

However, the act of betrayal that BoJack did to her was far worse. After Sarah Lynn got caught drinking from his liquor bottle, he forced Sharona to take the fall, as him getting fired would lead to the conclusion of the show. This led to her losing her job immediately, which is just another example of how BoJack’s selfishness would hurt others.

Charlotte

In another world, BoJack and Charlotte could have been together. Their connection during BoJack’s tenure on Horsing Around was quite apparent, but at the end of the day, they went down different paths. However, BoJack would try to spark the fire again while she was married.

BoJack lived outside her house in his boat, which was met with approval by Charlotte and her family. However, things would take a massive turn for the worst when BoJack kissed her. This would lead to Charlotte telling him to leave by the morning, but that is not even where the story ends of how badly he hurt her.

Penny

After the kissing debacle happened with Charlotte, things became far worse very fast. After taking her daughter, Penny, to her high school prom, it became clear that she was enamored by BoJack. We would then see Charlotte catch BoJack in bed with Penny. Mind you, she was 17.

This would lead to a lot of trauma for Penny later on in the series when BoJack would show up on her college campus during one of his benders. This is where we would see just how much of a negative impact BoJack had on her, as she panicked immensely and ran away when seeing him.

Herb

Herb is the main reason why BoJack would end up obtaining a career in acting. They were the best of friends, but BoJack’s narcissism would make the friendship begin to evaporate during the height of Horsin’ Around.

However, even with this, Herb would come to BoJack for help when the network was threatening to fire him for being gay. He asked BoJack to leave if he was fired, which he initially agreed to. Yet, the network head, Angela, would convince him to stay, while firing Herb. This would crush Herb’s career and be the final nail in the coffin of their friendship.

Sarah Lynn

Sarah Lynn was the character that BoJack hurt the most. He was the reason why Sarah Lynn would turn to alcohol and drugs, which led to her quick downfall. He also used her sexually during her rough period as well. However, she would sober up later in the series, only for BoJack to convince her to go on a bender with him.

This would prove to be a fatal move, as Sarah Lynn would tragically overdose, while with BoJack. However, to make matters even worse, it was revealed in the final season that BoJack waited 17 whole minutes to contact the paramedics, while also attempting to hide his involvement in it. This was without question the worst thing BoJack did in the entire series.
