10 Biggest Dragon’s Dogma 2 Story Spoilers With The Most Impact

Dragon’s Dogma 2 carries over essentially the same basic plot as its predecessor, telling a story that revolves around the Dragon and the person whose heart he stole, who then becomes the Arisen. Although presented differently, much remains the same between the two titles; however, its differences are what make it a more interesting experience. The sequel is the bigger of the two games, and that means there is more of a story to be uncovered in Vermund and Battahl compared to Gransys.

[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Dragon’s Dogma 2.]

Due to its length, there is a lot of story to tell in Capcom’s newest RPG. There are many moments throughout not only its main story, but also through many side quests that add to the depth of the world to make it one that the Arisen would want to save. Much of this can be missed, however, and the Arisen can rush to fight the Dragon without much grasp of the story, thanks to the freedom granted by the game, which would be a shame, as it has some powerful moments.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is guaranteed to take you on a memorable and immersive adventure, but it’s liable to include a few hiccups along the way.

Ulrika Becoming The Leader Of Harve

From Melve To Harve

Ulrika is a woman who gets the short end of the stick throughout the early part of the game. She is the warden of Melve, and is there during two separate dragon attacks, one of which leads to the player character becoming the Arisen. Her kindness and care for the Arisen thereafter endears her to players, and her questline is a highlight of the Vermund section of the game, even if she is hard to find after being forced out of Melve.

Her story ends with her finding trust in a new village that has suffered just as greatly as hers: Harve. She becomes this village’s leader, and with the help of the Arisen, she manages to integrate the people of Melve into her new home, freeing them from the tyranny of Queen Regent Disa. Should the player desire, there is even a romance scene at the end of this quest, which provides a decent and satisfactory ending for one of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s more popular characters.

There Is More Than One Arisen

But Not All Slay Their Dragon

The game makes it obvious that there are other Arisen in other worlds, which is where many Pawns come from. In fact, it is one of the key features that sets Dragon’s Dogma apart, but that does not mean that there is only one Arisen per world (as much as multiplayer would add to the game). Everyone knows about the False Sovran, the man who pretends to hold the player’s throne, but there are those that are, or at least were, the genuine Arisen.

The Dragonforged is one such example; he is a former Arisen, a failed one who seeks to help the current Arisen to succeed where he could not, mainly by making use of Wyrmslife Crystals. Another example would be Lamond, another failed Arisen who also acts as the Maister for unlocking Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s Warfarer Vocation. Other than these two providing great utility for the latter parts of the game, they also give context to what happens should the player not slay the Dragon. It is somewhat a twist too, given that the game reiterates that there can only be one, true Arisen at a time.

The Phantom Oxcart

How Did Those Pawns Get Enslaved?

At the very beginning of the game, the player finds themselves enslaved alongside hundreds of Pawns. For a decent chunk of time, there is no context as to how all these Pawns got here, nor is it explained who is behind it all, but the answers are later revealed through a unique quest titled “The Phantom Oxcart.” It is one of the game’s many conspiracies, but since the Pawns are closely tied to the Arisen, and are their greatest allies, this hits a little closer to home.

It is revealed in this quest that The Phantom Oxcart only appears just after sunset, and is part of a Pawn slave trade in which they are sold to be transported to Battahl. Battahl is a nation that loathes Pawns, and is by no means allies to Vermund. Still, Queen Regent Disa sends these Pawns over to her country’s neighbor, having them beaten and forced into manual labor. This presents more of the secret unity between the former Queen and Battahl, and starts to unravel the truth about her conspiracies.

7

The Seafloor Shrine

It’s Like A Reverse Atlantis

When players first arrive at Harve, they wouldn’t expect that an ancient fortress lies in the waters by its coast. During a quest called “A New Godsway,” players are sent back to the Vermund village just in time to see the Seafloor Shrine reveal itself as it rises from the seabed, and offers the Arisen a new dungeon to explore. The dungeon is a unique one, which ends in exploring the fortress above, and enables a shortcut from Harve to Bakbattahl.

Despite all this, a castle rising from the sea is not the most shocking event of this quest. The Arisen will find the founder of Vermund in this dungeon, seated upon a throne. He is a beastren named Rothias, who has slain other Arisen, but is surprised that the player has not come to kill him. Instead of fighting, he uses his own soul to form the Dulled Godsbane Blade, which is vital for later parts of the story.

6

The Godsway Necklace

The False Sovran Staking His Claim

There is a False Sovran pretending to be the true Arisen; he is naught but a puppet for Queen Regent Disa, and during Captain Brant’s questline to aid the Arisen take back the throne, it is revealed that there are other ways to control Pawns. Traditionally, Pawns serve the true Arisen on their quest to slay the Dragon. They are willing in this pursuit, because it is the reason for their existence, yet there are ways to force the loyal Pawns into servitude.

During his coronation, the False Sovran wears a necklace housing a mysterious crystal. It is mentioned to be a Godsway artifact by the Arisen’s main Pawn later, and it can be used to force Pawns to work for whoever has it, irrespective of the true Arisen. This complicates matters for the player, leading them on a journey to Battahl, effectively being the reason for the second act of the game and the exploration of Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s other country.

Starting This Dragon’s Dogma 2 Quest Before You’re Ready Could Ruin Your Entire Game

The point of no return comes pretty abruptly in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Here’s how to prepare for it, and everything players can expect to come after.

5

The Nameless Village

Who Is The False Sovran?

Before the coronation of the False Sovran, the Arisen is tasked with discovering more about this man. It is known that he comes from a place called the Nameless Village, which is a mystery in and of itself, and when the player arrives, they will find that many of the NPCs in the village are acting rather oddly. It is later revealed that the village is actually home to a kind of thieves’ guild, and much of it is a front to keep visitors from investigating.

The truth about the False Sovran is discovered here, as he was once a member of the thieves, ready to become their leader. He is a man named Darragh and during his trial to become the next thief-minister, he was wounded with a cut on the chest that later scarred like an Arisen’s. He then left to become the False Sovran, changing his name to Arthur, but there is still a bill of arrest for Darragh, which Srail, the current leader of the thieves, gives to the player.

4

The Gracious Hand

Not All Charity Is Good

When players first arrive in Vernworth’s slums, the Gracious Hand, an organization of nuns, will appear as a charitable and helpful group looking to save the poverty-ridden members of the city. This is not the case, however, as there is a quest called the “Saint of the Slums”, which reveals the truth about the Gracious Hand. Their leader, Elena, is treating a beastren named Lubomir, who is unconvinced that he is being treated correctly.

The quest results in a lot of journeying across Vermund, eventually leading players to discover that Elena is not healing people at all; instead, she gives them an addictive substance that is poisonous. This reveals the depravity of some of Vernworth’s leaders, a theme in Dragon’s Dogma 2, and acts as somewhat of a parallel to Vermund in general, with Disa also poisoning people with the idea of a false Sovran.

3

The Final Battle

The Dragon & The Arisen

The entire game leads to the final confrontation with the Dragon. It is a fated battle, destined to determine the fate of the world, and it seems as though everything has pointed the player to defeating the Dragon as intended. Oddly enough, this isn’t quite how the game plays out. Instead, the Arisen is given a choice between doing what destiny has ordained or walking away to become Vermund’s ruler without fighting at all.

There is a catch to this choice. The Dragon will state that not fighting him will result in the Arisen sacrificing a friend (whoever they have the most affinity with). This is a big choice in the game, resulting in different endings. Should the friend be sacrificed, the player will receive the bad ending, but if the Dragon is fought, then the good ending and true ending are up for grabs, depending on later choices made.

The Pathfinder Rolling Back Time

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Post Game

The Pathfinder is a mysterious figure who appears to act as a guide but actually seems to do very little. That is, until the coronation of the Arisen (provided that they have beaten the Dragon), where the Pathfinder has the ability to take the player back in time to redo the final battle. Here, if the player stabs themselves with the Empowered Godsbane Blade, they will wake up in a new version of the world.

This version of the world is not the one that players will remember. It is an apocalyptic hellscape called the “Unmoored World,” absent of any water. This is the Post Game of Dragon’s Dogma 2, and it is necessary to complete it in order to get the game’s true ending. Plus, the changing of the world also changes the overall mood of the game while adding in new bosses and challenges.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Final Boss & Every Ending Explained (In Detail)

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has three separate endings, all of which have drastically different outcomes for the Arisen and the fate of the world.

1

The True Ending

The Cycle Ends

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is all about the cycle of the Dragon and the Arisen. However, the game’s true ending is reality-altering, focusing on the Arisen breaking the cycle, and untethering the world from the recurring endtimes heralded by the Dragon. After beating the Post Game, players can earn the True Ending, which is the most satisfactory of the three. Other than preventing the apocalypse, which is always an added bonus, there are several elements which make this ending the most satisfying.

For one, The Brine, a mysterious phenomenon which prevents people from going into deep waters and distant sailing, seems to vanish, meaning that people can finally venture into the ocean. Not only that, but Pawns are given free will, with the destruction of the cycle. Overall, this provides the brightest future for the people of Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s world and the discovery of new lands could set the groundwork for a sequel.
