Ever since rebranding from The TV Guide Network (TVGN) in 2015, Pop TV has enjoyed a major viewership resurgence. One of the primary reasons for this was the success of the original sitcom series, Schitt’s Creek, the first program from the network to earn Primetime Emmy Award nominations and victories. Unfortunately, the show ended its successful six-season run last April.
At the current time, Pop TV has seven original series on the air to go with an additional 13 programs that the network has acquired in the last decade. Here are the 10 best TV shows to watch on the network right now.
Ghost Whisperer (2005 – 2010) – 6.4
Pop TV acquired the supernatural melodrama Ghost Whisperer from CBS in 2016, six years after the show officially ended its five-season run.
Created by John Gray, the show centers on Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt), a woman doing her best to balance her professional career as a medium who can communicate with the deceased with her personal life as a loving newlywed. The show earned four Primetime Emmy nominations in five years.
Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990 – 2000) – 6.4
The definitive teen melodrama of the ’90s, Aaron Spelling’s landmark series, Beverly Hills, 90210, continues to be one of the most popular syndicated TV shows on the air. Pop TV acquired rights to the show in 2014 and has been airing episodes ever since.
The drama follows Minnesota transplants Brandon (Jason Priestley) and Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) as they adjust to their affluent new surroundings, make friends, explore dating, and come of age during their high-school and college years.
NCIS: New Orleans (2014 – 2021) – 6.8
Pop acquired NCIS: New Orleans in 2014, the spinoff crime series that is on pace to conclude its seven-season run on May 30, 2021.
The beloved series traces Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula), a Naval Criminal Investigator tasked with solving crimes in the Big Easy with his skilled team of agents that include Sebastian Lund (Rob Kerkovich), Loretta Wade (CCH Pounder), Patton Plame (Daryl Mitchell), Christopher LaSalle (Lucas Black), and Tammy Gregorio (Vanessa Ferlito).
Scorpion (2014 – 2018) – 7.1
One year after the dramatic crime series Scorpion ended its four-season run on CBS, Pop TV acquired rights to reair all 93 episodes. The show traces a highly skilled team of tech experts who use their specialties to thwart large-scale criminal conspiracies.
Under their reluctant leader, Cabe Gallo (Robert Patrick), Walter (Elyes Gabel), Paige (Katharine McPhee), Toby (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Happy (Jadyn Wong), and Sylvester (Ari Stidham) join forces to prevent major criminal events before they happen.
Charmed (1998 – 2006) – 7.1
The second Shannen Doherty series to air on Pop includes Charmed, the beloved fantasy series about a trio of sisterly witches doing their best to maintain a normal life while moonlighting as witches out to defeat malefic forces.
Acquired by Pop TV in 2018, Charmed stars Doherty, Alyssa Milano, and Hollie Marie Combs as the central Halliwell siblings, and later Rose McGowan as their long-lost half-sister, Paige Matthews. The show marries breezy campiness with a supernatural bite in a way that continues to entertain the masses.
Hot Date (2017 – ) – 7.2
Created by Emily Axford and Bryan K. Murphy in 2017, Hot Date is the only Pop TV original series to currently remain on the air during its initial run. After two seasons and 20 episodes, the series currently awaits a season 3 release date.
The 30-minute romantic sketch comedy series follows Axford and Murphy, the real-life married couple behind the popular web series, CollegeHumor. Executive producer Will Arnett has appeared on the show, as has Kevin Pollak, Ben Schwartz, Margaret Cho, Randall Park, Thomas Lennon, and Mena Suvari.
ER (1994 – 2009) – 7.7
After acquiring the iconic medical drama ER in 2017, the show has become a mainstay on Pop TV’s rotational schedule. With 331 episodes available across 15 seasons, Pop TV airs the show almost daily.
Created by Michael Crichton, the series follows the dedicated medical professionals working at County General Hospital in Chicago as they try to save the lives of the infirmed while leading a happy personal existence. In addition to launching George Clooney’s decorated acting career, the landmark series won 22 Emmy Awards and a George Foster Peabody Award in 1995.
The Goldbergs (2013 – ) – 8.1
ABC’s nostalgic 1980s hit sitcom, The Goldbergs is currently in the midst of its eighth season. Pop picked up the rights to the show in 2017 and has been airing reruns ever since (along with TV Land).
Created by Adam F. Goldberg, the semiautobiographical series follows the lovably dysfunctional Goldberg family as they navigate daily life in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, in the 1980s. Told in flashback by the present-day version of Adam (narrated by Patton Oswalt), the show has made a habit of paying homage to all of the 1980s movies and TV shows Goldberg saw as a youth.
Schitt’s Creek (2015 – 2020) – 8.5
While Schitt’s Creek officially ended its six-season run in April 2020, Pop still wisely airs episodes of the breakout hit from time to time. Since the show put the network on the map, it only makes sense that reruns take place.
Schitt’s Creek follows the disgraced Rose family, once affluent socialites forced to live in a squalid roadside motel. Upon purchasing and renovating the place, Johnny (Eugene Levy), Moira (Catherine O’Hara), David (Daniel Levy), and Alexis (Annie Murphy) do their best to survive and thrive in a challenging new environment.
House (2004 – 2012) – 8.7
Acquired by Pop six years after the show ended on Fox, House remains the highest-rated TV show currently airing on the network. The deft blend of humor and drama led to a role of a lifetime for British actor Hugh Laurie, who won a 2006 Golden Globe and 2009 SAG Award for his performance as Dr. Gregory House.
Currently rated #115 on IMDb’s list of Top 250 TV Shows, House follows the cantankerous titular rogue doctor who plays by his own rules and uses his own mad methods to cure whatever medical condition that’s put in front of him. The original run of the show lasted eight seasons and 176 episodes.
