The entire list of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC’s new and returning Pokémon has yet to be unveiled, but Nintendo has already revealed a few of the Legendary creatures and past-generation Pokémon that will make their way into the expansions. With each of the two DLCs, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, a group of creatures will be added to the Paldean Pokédex in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, in order to populate the new areas of the world. Aside from the cover art Legendaries, a few of the returning Pokémon that will be added with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLCs have also been announced.
With The Teal Mask, players will see the return of a few fan favorites, such as Ninetails, Milotic, and Vikavolt. The Indigo Disk, on the other hand, will bring in Metagross, Zebstrika, and Dewgong, for example. Nintendo only revealed a small list of Pokémon, but there are certainly more that would be great complements to the games. Here are the 10 best Pokémon that should be added to Scarlet and Violet with the DLCs, disregarding creatures that have already been foreseen by source-code leaks:
10 Venusaur & Blastoise
Nostalgia sells, and with Charizard’s recent addition to Scarlet and Violet, the completion of Kanto’s starter trio could be a great strategy to bring visibility to the expansions while also pleasing some veteran players. Having Venusaur and Blastoise’s evolutionary lines added with the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLCs, perhaps even through limited-time events, seems like a great way to round out the lack of them in the base game.
Despite Charizard being the most popular among the three starter evolutions, Venusaur and Blastoise are staples in the franchise. Announcing them as returning Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet’s DLCs could potentially help in attracting players either back into the game or into the titles for the first time, seeing their popularity.
9 Zubat
A Pokémon game almost feels incomplete without Zubat. Despite being one of the most annoying and abundant creatures in the series, the lack of it and its evolutionary line was hard felt in the base game. With the addition of this Pokémon in the Scarlet and Violet DLCs, that could be rectified.
Zubat, Golbat, and Crobat all feel like creatures that belong in Paldea, either in the massive cave areas present throughout the region or even at night. While they likely won’t be added to the main continent, they feel like good additions to The Teal Mask’s more nightly theme and forest-like setting.
8 Kingdra
Kingdra is one of Generation 2’s most elegantly designed creatures and it, along with its evolutionary line, could easily be incorporated with The Indigo Disk. With the whole aquatic theme circling around the second expansion, it feels right that it should be among the added Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet’s DLCs.
Although it is not one of the strongest Pokémon, it is a superb Johtonian choice to bring to the Generation 9 games. It could make sense to see this creature in the seas of Paldea, but mostly around the underwater Blueberry Academy. If not Kindra, then both forms of Corsola, which are great Water-type Pokémon that fit the expansion’s theme.
7 Aggron
One of the best Generation 3 Pokémon was left out of the base game: Aggron. The evolutionary line, originally from Hoenn, could have also been a great fit in many of Paldea’s zones – especially in Area Zero. If these Pokémon were added with Scarlet and Violet’s DLCs, that mistake would be corrected, much like the lack of Zubat.
Aggron is a very strong and stylish Pokémon, and it could fit within the island presented in The Teal Mask. Its design would not go hand-in-hand with the local Legendaries’ designs, but it should not have to, anyway. Seeing Aggrons roam the overworld in Sword and Shield was a great experience that should be repeated in Generation 9. It could become a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet convergent species, but the original creature is good enough.
6 Chandelure
Chandelure and its evolutionary line make perfect sense for The Teal Mask expansion, with its nightly theme and prominent use of lanterns. The Generation 5 Ghost- and Fire-type creatures would fit in quite nicely, as they could help illuminate the island at night. The lack of them in the base game was justified, but it would be great to bring this Pokémon back into the current Generation as a complimentary addition.
It does not fit in too well with the original Paldean map, but it could work along well in new areas. On top of that, Chandelure is great to use competitively, so adding this Pokémon into Scarlet and Violet with the DLCs could significantly alter the competitive play field for the better.
5 Golisopod
Golisopod is a Bug-type titan, and it should be added to Gen 9 with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLCs. Due to its dual Bug- and Water-type, it could easily be added either in The Teal Mask or The Indigo Disk. The first evolution in its line, Wimpod, would also be added in the same bunch.
The fact that Golisopod is a strong Pokémon only adds to the reasons why it should be added. Of course, The Teal Mask is already bringing back the powerful Bug-type Vikavolt, but seeing this is one of the worst types in Pokémon, having stronger ones actively present could help restore its bad reputation. There are good Bug-type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, but not enough.
4 Turtonator
Turtonator does not get enough attention. This is a very strong and greatly designed Pokémon that should be added with the Scarlet and Violet DLCs. The Fire- and Dragon-type creature from Generation 7 was available in Sword and Shield, and should definitely be added to Gen 9.
It could be a great fit for The Indigo Disk. The second expansion will be focused on competitive Trainer battles and, seeing how powerful and effective this Pokémon is in battle, it just makes sense to see it as a high-leveled opponent – that can, later on, be captured on a high-leveled island.
3 Zeraora
While The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk are getting new Legendary Pokémon, it would be great to see the return of a Mythical Pokémon from a previous Generation. Zeraora was a rare addition to Sword and Shield and, those who lost the chance to grab it, lost it forever. This could be a way to offer those players a chance of getting the powerful Electric-type creature once again.
Capturing previous Gen Legendaries and Mythicals was a core experience in Pokémon Sword and Shield’s The Crown Tundra DLC, and that could be replicated with The Indigo Disk, which is Scarlet and Violet’s second DLC. Zeraora was only featured in a limited-time Dynamax Raid, but this time it could be a more permanent addition.
2 Centiskorch
One of Generation 8’s most notable Pokémon, Centiskorch, was left out of Gen 9. It could make a decent reappearance with the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLCs. Centiskorch and Sizzlipede, its previous form, would fit in well with The Teal Mask expansion. Depending on how The Indigo Disk’s map is structured, it could also fit into the second DLC.
Centiskorch is yet another great Bug-type Pokémon that could be used for competitive play. Although it would come missing its impressive Gigantamax form, it would still be a good choice for battles. Seeing that The Indigo Disk is focused on these battles, it would fit in well.
1 Wailord
While it does not exactly have the best competitive value and is not even among the most popular Pokémon of its own Generation, Wailord is an absolute necessity to see in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC, The Indigo Disk. As a part of the expansion will be set in the ocean, there should be nothing better than to replicate what worked with Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor and insert one of the largest Pokémon in existence in the middle of the overworld.
It would be an absolute delight to see Wailord and a few Wailmer gently swimming across the ocean in all their immensity, though it would do no favors for cetaphobes. Nonetheless, this evolutionary line could be added with the second Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC in a way that makes sense.
