10 Best Movies To Watch Like There’s Someone Inside Your House

10 Best Movies To Watch Like There’s Someone Inside Your House

Based on the YA novel by Stephanie Perkins, There’s Someone Inside Your House is a new entry in Netflix’s horror catalogue, and the teen slasher features beloved aspects of the genre. There’s an intelligent main character who has recently moved to a tiny town, a close-knit group of friends, and a killer who wears a mask and seems to be hiding everywhere.

After checking out this scary and compelling movie, fans will want to find something else that is just as haunting. Thankfully, there are many horror films that will be perfect for those who love the story of Makani Young and the killer in her small Nebraska town.

Fear Street Part One: 1994

10 Best Movies To Watch Like There’s Someone Inside Your House

Fear Street’s smart characters and homage to classic horror movies are just a few reasons why fans of the genre were excited about this trilogy in the summer of 2021. The first movie in the Fear Street trilogy is also perfect for fans of There’s Someone Inside Your House.

Both movies have masked killers who are lurking in a small town, along with characters who have banded together because they aren’t considered cool or popular. The movies also maintain a campy sense of humor throughout, despite the brutal murders and creepy tone.

Halloween (1978)

The original Halloween has so much to love: an atmospheric setting, an opening and ending that make audiences think, and a final girl who fans want to follow through many movies.

Both this movie and the Netflix film based on Stephanie Perkins’s novel are slashers with well-drawn characters, a small town location, and a killer who shows absolutely no mercy. It’s always entertaining to revisit Halloween and remember when this genre really kicked into high gear as this story has had such a huge influence.

Black Christmas

The 2019 remake of Black Christmas is an imperfect new take on the classic story of sorority members who are terrorized while staying in a house together over the winter holidays.

While the movie isn’t universally beloved, it does talk about important topics like There’s Someone Inside Your House, and both feature feminist characters who know that their campus or small town have a lot of white privilege that needs to be discussed. In Black Christmas, a cult wants females to be taken down, and in TSIYH, Zack is killing because his dad is a wealthy white supremacist.

Freaky

Freaky isn’t a perfect horror comedy but it updates the famous tale of two people who switch places. In this case, it’s an adult serial killer and a teenage girl.

Freaky shares a sense of humor with There’s Someone Inside Your House, and both Millie and Makani want to get through high school without attracting too much attention. They both feel different from their peers but end up caught up in a terrifying situation. Both characters are also tough teenagers who stand up to the killer at the end.

Ready Or Not

Samara Weaving as Grace smiling in Ready Or Not

Ready Or Not is a favorite thanks to its horrifying interpretation of the classic hide and seek game. Grace is nervous about her new rich family, but she realizes she should be afraid for her life when it turns out that her new relatives are evil and they want her dead.

While not a teen movie or a slasher, Ready Or Not is a smart take on the horror genre. The villains in this movie and the killer in There’s Someone Inside Your House enjoy playing with their victims and they they believe that they should get what they want, regardless of what evil is created in the process.

Haunt

The masked clowns in Haunt

In this underrated horror movie from 2019, Harper carries the secret of her abusive father around with her, and when she and her friends check out a haunted house on Halloween, they might not get out.

Haunt and There’s Someone Inside Your House have strong protagonists, and they’re both vulnerable as they have something painful in their past that they don’t want everyone to know about. The storylines might be different and the killers might have different motivations, but there is a common element. In Haunt, the killers take off the faces of those who they murder, and they also like to change the way that their own faces look so they seem horrifying. In TSIYK, the killer makes a copy of the victim’s face before he kills them.

The Craft: Legacy

The 2020 reboot The Craft: Legacy is both similar and a departure from The Craft, and it’s a diverse story about teenage girls who explore their power.

There’s Someone Inside Your House deals with hate, intolerance, and abuse, as Katie is revealed to be a white supremacist and Jackson hazed Caleb for being gay. The Craft: Legacy also deals with important subjects, as the main characters put a spell on Timmy, a bully who becomes a kinder, better person who starts learning the error of his ways.

Unfriended

Blaire yelling in Unfriended

While Unfriended might take place entirely on a computer screen and There’s Someone Inside Your House is a slasher set in a small town, both movies are about friend groups who have secrets that they don’t tell each other about.

It’s compelling and disturbing watching Blaire come to terms with the tragic death of her former friend Laura in Unfriended, and it turns out that the characters taunted her and shared a horrible video that went viral. Makani has a similar dark history in There’s Someone Inside Your House, and she feels awful that she once pushed a girl into a fire.

The Faculty

Zeke and Miss Burke talking outside in The Faculty

The Faculty is a beloved horror movie and the characters feel similarly to those in There’s Someone Inside Your House: that high school is difficult and dark.

The Faculty tells a science-fiction story about aliens and TSIYH is a slasher, but both stories talk about popularity, friendship, and the darkness inside of people. The high schoolers in the former hate their teachers and almost aren’t surprised when they get invaded by aliens, and the teens in the latter movie know that they go to school with some mean-spirited, hateful people.

Scream 4

While any young adult horror movie is going to be compared to Scream, particularly if it’s a slasher with a sense of humor, it’s Scream 4 that is a great pick for fans of There’s Someone Inside Your House.

Horror fans can find a common element in both movies: the reveal of the killer near the end. Both movies feature a killer who seems to have been hiding in plain sight, as both Jill and Zack pretend to be innocent and then turn out to be completely evil. Jill and Zack are interested in making a name for themselves and have gotten caught up in the idea of celebrity and a false sense of justice.
