10 Best Moments In The Mandalorian, Ranked

The Mandalorian has had some incredible moments as viewers have followed Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and Grogu in three seasons of the flagship Disney+ series. It all started back in 2019, when the series premiered alongside the release of Disney+ as the first ever live-action Star Wars TV show. The show follows the Mandalorian Din Djarin and his adventures with Grogu, a 50-year-old infant of the same species as Yoda, set during the rarely explored New Republic era.

As the two journey across the galaxy, they face Jedi, former-Jedi, gunslingers, droids, Imperials, and many creatures, resulting in a whole host of memorable Star Wars moments. Among these are moments that have truly rocked the Star Wars fandom, with many that have become immensely significant and profound for the main characters of The Mandalorian. With The Mandalorian season 4 on the way, here are the 10 best moments in all three seasons of the Star Wars TV show thus far.

10 Meeting The Mandalorian

Season 1, Episode 1 “Chapter 1: The Mandalorian”

The Mandalorian in his beskar armor standing in an open doorway on a snowy planet

An opening scene is often times difficult to pull off, especially set in a pre-existing universe like Star Wars. Luckily, The Mandalorian hits the ground running, introducing viewers to Din Djarin in a slick and well-directed bounty hunting sequence. Din is established to be a badass killer, who has no regard for anything except obtaining his bounty. The fight choreography is fun, and the door-kill is particularly gruesome, immediately and effectively introducing us to Din Djarin and the tone of the series to come. This makes it absolutely unforgettable, and certainly gives it a place in the show’s top ten moments.

9 IG-11’s Heroic Sacrifice

Season 1, Episode 8 “Chapter 8: Redemption”

At the end of season 1, IG-11, having been rebuilt by Kuill in an adorable sequence, makes the decision to sacrifice himself to take out the Imperials and save the heroes. This moment is so well done, and it really makes you feel for this droid, now designed to protect rather than kill. It builds on the season-long arc of Din Djarin’s relationship with droids, but also what it means to be a killer. Much like Din is now a protector of Grogu instead of a killer, IG-11 is now a protector, sacrificing himself in this wonderful yet heartbreaking moment. The significance this has for both his and Din’s characters makes it one of the show’s best thus far.

8 Mandalore Restored At The Great Forge

Season 3, Episode 8 “Chapter 24: The Return”

The Mandalorian season 3 focused on some very different aspects of the characters than the past two seasons, one of which is the reconquest of Mandalore. The planet of Mandalore was sufficiently destroyed by the Empire before the events of the series, resulting in the secretive and hidden groups of Mandalorians. In The Mandalorian season 3, the Mandalorians led by Bo-Katan manage to retake their ancestral homeworld from the Empire. Seeing hundreds of Mandalorians gathered at the Great Forge in the final scenes of the season is an incredibly subtle yet cathartic moment, and the best of the season – giving it a place in the best moments of the show overall.

7 Meeting Grogu For The First Time

Season 1, Episode 1 “Chapter 1: The Mandalorian”

Din Djarin finds Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian

Din’s companion, Grogu, is the most iconic and popular part of The Mandalorian, and the first time the little guy appears is one of the series’ best moments – despite being in the very first episode. Pursuing a bounty alongside the assassin droid IG-11, Din Djarin opens the pram-pod and sees Grogu for the first time. This rocked the Star Wars fandom, and the world. IG-11 soon after announces he intends to kill the child, and after some clever editing to hold the audience on the edge of their seat, Din Djarin kills IG-11, protecting Grogu for the first time of many to come. The importance and legacy of this singular moment easily earns a place within the show’s top ten best moments.

6 Din and Cobb Vanth Fight The Krayt Dragon

Season 2, Episode 1 “Chapter 9: The Marshal”

Season 2 of The Mandalorian starts off with a bang, as Din ventures to Tatooine again and fights a krayt dragon with local marshal Cobb Vanth. This was the culmination of lore references dating back to 1977, with the krayt dragon’s skeleton seen, and its call heard, in A New Hope. The effects in this sequence are incredible, and it does a wonderful job transforming the legacy of the Tuskens, who help the settlers defeat the monster. The combat is fun and inventive, and Din taking down the dragon from the inside is an unforgettable moment, easily making this one of the show’s best thus far.

5 Boba Fett’s Rampage On Tython

Season 2, Episode 6 “Chapter 14: The Tragedy”

Boba Fett aiming a blaster in The Mandalorian season 2

Ever since his untimely defeat in Return of the Jedi in the Sarlacc, Star Wars fans have wanted to know more about Boba Fett. His survival was confirmed by the final shot of The Mandalorian season 2 premiere. It wasn’t until episode 6, however, that Boba was reunited with his famous armor, and he was seen in action. Boba takes on a whole legion of stormtroopers using all of his smarts and gadgets for a live-action fight viewers have always dreamed of. This scene depicts the Boba Fett viewers have always wanted, and it will go down in Star Wars history as one of the best, if not the best, Boba Fett scenes – and certainly one of The Mandalorian‘s best.

4 Grogu First Using The Force To Save Din

Season 1, Episode 2 “Chapter 2: The Child”

One central aspect of Grogu’s character is his Force-sensitivity, and the first time it’s seen is truly incredible. Din Djarin, being cornered by a fearsome mudhorn, is saved by the little one lifting the creature so Din can defeat it. The score, the editing, the effects, the acting – everything is firing on all cylinders during this scene. The magic of the Force is something that many take for granted in how it’s depicted in Star Wars, and this episode brings it back through this alien infant and a man who’s never seen anything like it. The magic of Star Wars simply permeates this scene and truly makes it one of the show’s most memorable and incredible.

3 Din Breaks His Creed At The Imperial Refinery

Season 2, Episode 7 “Chapter 15: The Believer”

Another central storyline of the series is the fact that Mandalorians of Din’s culture don’t remove their helmets in front of others. This comes to a tee in season 1 with IG-11, but even more prominently in season 2, at the Imperial rhydonium refinery on Morak. To gain essential information to rescuing Grogu, Din sacrifices his Creed and removes his helmet.

He is then pressured into getting a drink with his ally Mayfeld and an intimidating Imperial officer, Valin Hess, in a scene which includes some of the series’ best acting from none other than comedian Bill Burr – and, with barely any lines of dialogue, Pascal himself. By the time the pair escapes, both of their respective morals have been very challenged. This marks a turning point that has since led to Din’s redemption plot in The Mandalorian season 3 – and makes this one of the best and most important scenes in the entire series.

2 Luke Skywalker Comes To Take Grogu

Season 2, Episode 8 “Chapter 16: The Rescue”

The Mandalorian Finale Luke Skywalker R2D2 Baby Yoda

In one of the series’ most famous scenes, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker answers Grogu’s call for help. This sequence has the main heroes holed up on the bridge of Moff Gideon’s light cruiser, cornered by a legion of deadly Dark Troopers. As a normal X-wing arrives and its cloaked pilot pulls out a green lightsaber to start decimating the droids, the revelation of who would respond to Grogu’s call is answered: Luke Skywalker is there, and he is incredible. His full Jedi abilities are on display, and he even talks to Din and the others before taking Grogu with him and R2-D2 to finish the youngling’s Jedi training. It’s an emotional, beautiful ending to a series-long character arc, and the return of Luke has made it one of the series’ very best moments yet.

1 Din Djarin Realizes His Mistake And Rescues Grogu

Season 1, Episode 3 “Chapter 3: The Sin”

Mandalorian The Sin

Grogu was initially just a bounty for Din, as placed by the Imperial Remnant for Moff Gideon. It’s one that he actually completes, bringing the child to the Imperial Remnant headquarters on Nevarro before having a change of heart. This change spurs Din to return to the facility, guns blazing, and rescue the child he’d bonded with.

It’s fist-pump-worthy, and a great moment of character development, but it doesn’t stop there. Din is confronted by countless bounty hunters even after he’s rescued Grogu, but he’s saved just in time by his entire covert of fellow Mandalorians. Flying around, using their gadgets and weapons, it’s the first time a group of Mandalorians has ever fought in live-action. This entire sequence of Din’s change of heart and then escape from Nevarro is a height that The Mandalorianhasn’t quite reached since.
