Thanks to the resounding success of Bridgerton’s first season, fans are eagerly awaiting the second installment of the show. Although most were disappointed that the Duke will not be part of season 2, there’s comfort in the knowledge that the show will explore more characters and new stories. Besides the title of the first episode and news of the Duke’s absence, one other big reveal was the casting of Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma–Anthony’s love interest.
During Netflix’s #TUDUM fan event, a teaser of season 2 was shown, featuring an epic verbal showdown between Kate and Anthony. Naturally, fans were excited by the scene and the chemistry between the two characters and took to Twitter to share their thoughts and feelings about them through memes and hilarious reactions.
The Art Of Falling In Love
The teaser was just over a minute long and most of it was Kate telling Anthony off for his ridiculous expectations of women and his character. Most fans who know how the story goes from the books know that the banter and rivalry between the two leads to them slowly developing feelings for each other. It also shows Anthony Bridgerton as a redeemable person as his character improves over time.
Twitter user @mary_lou_ perfectly summarised this with a meme of Kate and Anthony with simple captions suggesting that the whole time she was telling him off, he was falling for her. Their story hinges on the popular enemies-to-lovers trope and from the teaser and fan reactions to it, it seems Bridgerton may be able to pull it off perfectly.
The Pride & Prejudice Parallel
Bridgerton shares similarities with other period dramas, especially Pride and Prejudice. One Twitter user, @menacetoanthony, drew attention to the similarities between the two with a meme of similar scenes from the movie and the teaser.
Kate and Anthony’s banter in the season 2 teaser is reminiscent of that of Darcy and Elizabeth, exchanged when he confessed his feelings to her in a manner she found insulting. Considering the popularity of that confession in the rain and the dressing down that followed promptly after, from Elizabeth, there’s no doubt the similar scene between Kate and Anthony will be another favorite once it airs in its entirety.
Can’t Get Enough
As the teaser is the first look at season 2 of Bridgerton that fans have gotten, it’s no wonder many fans have watched it countless times. Like several others, @lothlauren84 shared a meme about the number of times they’ve watched the teaser.
Not only is the clip so good that fans can’t help but watch it over and over again, but it is also one of the few new things available for the show to tide them over until the release date, which is so far only set as 2022. This, along with the recently released season 2 photos of the Sharmas and some of the Bridgertons, plus the extended talent panel video are all fans have to enjoy while they await the new season.
The New Diamond Of The Season
The first season of Bridgerton primarily focused on Daphne and Simon, just like the books. As a result, the two of them became fan-favorites of the show, hence the outcry over Simon not returning once the first season was done.
The second season is likely to follow a similar pattern, but with the main focus on Anthony and Kate. From the first look of Kate in the show, fans such as @bridgertoncast are certain she’ll be the new favorite and own everyone’s hearts with her witty banter and take-no-nonsense attitude towards Anthony.
Going Mad
There are not enough words to describe how much fans loved and enjoyed the teaser clip. In addition, it’s made their anticipation for the second season even stronger, making the wait until 2022 that much more excruciating.
Twitter user @MillsRubyred shared their feelings about the wait with a gif and a funny caption about going mad over having to wait so long after seeing the intriguing snippet shown in the clip. From the looks of it, the season may be loved as much as the best episodes of Bridgerton season 1.
The Perfect Book To Screen Adaptation
Continuing the tradition from the first season of diverse casting, the second one changed Kate Sheffield from the books to Kate Sharma, brought to the screen by Simone Ashley from Sex Education. In addition to the excitement over the representation of South Asian women in the regency drama, fans of her previous work are hyped to see how she tackles this new role.
Twitter user @xBeBrave2514 commended Simone’s portrayal of Kate in the teaser and how she managed to capture the wittiness of the character from the books. As the clip is only a snippet of what’s to come, there are high hopes for the character in the rest of the season.
Best Trope Ever
A lot of TV shows rely on tropes to tell their story. Although some overuse those to the point of redundancy, others manage to execute the tropes perfectly with a touch of uniqueness. From the teaser and details in the books, it’s clear Bridgerton season 2 will use the enemies to lovers trope with Kate and Anthony.
It might be a cliché, but based on reactions from Twitter users like @BattinsonMarvel, it’s one that fans are looking forward to seeing in the show. With the talented Shondaland team and the chemistry evident between Kate and Anthony in the short clip, Bridgerton promises to make something memorable from the old cliché.
“So You Find My Smile Pleasing?”
After watching the teaser several times on repeat, a number of quotes stood out from those few seconds of dialogue. One of those was Anthony’s line, “so you find my smile pleasing,” in response to Kate off-handedly mentioning his “pleasing smile while scolding him.
Many fans were caught up on that line and Anthony’s delivery of it and Twitter user, @piscisentierra, shared a funny meme as a reaction to it–as many other fans did. It was funny that Anthony said that, choosing to focus on the backhanded compliment from Kate rather than all the other things she was saying to him, and it certainly added to their banter.
Hooked Already
According to deadline.com, season 1 of Bridgerton was viewed by 82 million households around the world. The season 2 teaser reached a million views on YouTube after 24 hours and based on those numbers, it looks like the show is headed for another successful season.
There are already fans comparing the two seasons on Twitter and anticipating the second to be better than the first even though Bridgerton will focus on a frustrating character. For example, @emboss26 tweeted that they liked the first season well enough but the second already has them hooked with that minute-long teaser.
The Scene We All Want
The teaser showed a scene that’s similar to one from the books, although it’s missing a key element. In the books, Colin was instrumental in introducing Kate and Anthony and he witnessed the banter between them and happily made fun of him for being decimated by Kate.
One fan, @LeidyMt_, remedied that by sharing an edit of the scene with Colin’s face superimposed onto it. In the books, this was one of Colin’s funniest scenes and as the show progresses, there’s a chance that it’ll show more of this side of him.
