The holiday season of 2022 will bring fantastic games like Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and plenty of YouTubers will be taking to their channels to show the newest games in all their depth.
Since the beginning of the platform, YouTubers have played games for viewers to either use as walkthroughs or simply sources of entertainment. A great let’s player is charismatic and fun, while also adding a bit of their own knowledge. It’s a style of YouTuber that can both entertain and teach people using the hobbies they love. Which Let’s Play players are truly worth the sub?
TFS Gaming
Fans may know TeamFourStar best for their work creating Dragonball Z Abridged and their work on Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, two stars of the old Abridged series fad that began with Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged.
Since the conclusion of both Dragonball Z Abridged and Hellsing Abridged, TeamFourStar has largely migrated to TFS Gaming, their Let’s Play Channel, with over 740k subscribers. The genres they choose from are pretty eclectic, but they recently finished a playthrough of Stranger of Paradise and did a full tabletop round of Avatar Legends. Sometimes, they even do skits as their old DBZ Abridged characters.
Marriland
Popular Pokémon YouTuber Marriland is one of the faces of the “PokeTuber” scene. Not only is his channel a great source of content for the franchise, but he also has his own website for upcoming content: Marriland.com.
Marriland does both very traditional Pokémon let’s plays as well as some special Pokémon challenge runs like Nuzlockes and Wedlockes. His runs are always very informative about the game and cover every base. Fans of the TCG might also enjoy Marriland’s long-running channel, as he devotes himself to converting the cards as well as the video games.
Madame Wario
For those who don’t want to stick to a particular franchise but are still about brand loyalty, Madame Wario is a Let’s Player who devotes herself mostly to Nintendo games.
Casual fun entertainment and good vibes are the name of the game for Madame Wario’s stream. In addition to her YouTube Let’s Plays of popular Nintendo games, she also has a presence on Twitch. Fans can look for streams of Fall Guys or Mario Party to enjoy if they’re looking to help support Madame Wario.
Shofu
Shofu will be known to most viewers strictly as a PokeTuber, but he’s actually a fairly eclectic YouTuber and Twitch streamer that covers a wide variety of content.
First, Shofu is an avid Super Smash Bros player. Shofu fans will find anything from Smash Bros guides to interesting Pokémon experiences like ROMhacks and Unite guides. Additionally, he has one thing that no other Let’s Player has: rap music. Shofu’s anime and video game raps are surprisingly good and a unique aspect of his channel.
Yuni Gaming
Yuni Gaming is a YouTuber from Finland who has mostly focused on Let’s Plays her entire career. This makes her more specialized than many YouTubers in the field, who usually put out additional other genres of gaming videos.
Yuni Gaming plays a vast variety of games, from cult classic titles to big blockbusters like her current playthroughs: Outlast and Resident Evil. She’s a smaller YouTuber with about 2.4k subscribers, but she’s a fun personality who is certainly deserving of the same attention as some of the larger YouTubers out there.
Markiplier
Markiplier is one of the most popular gaming YouTubers on the platform, and while he generally falls under the category, some of his content teeters the line on what is or isn’t considered a “Let’s Play.”
Markiplier has examples of both the traditional full Let’s Play that covers a game from start to finish. He also has shorter segments that merely highlight different games. Regardless, there’s something for everyone in his videos. If the viewer can appreciate Markiplier’s distinct personality, they can appreciate most of his gaming content.
PokemonChallenges
PokemonChallenges is a German YouTuber known for being the best Nuzlocker in the world, and his work is pretty exclusively related to Pokémon lets plays and highlights.
Along with his other channel PchalDaily, PokemonChallenges covers playthroughs of very difficult Pokémon ROMhacks like Emerald Kaizo and Garbage Green. All the while, he uses the difficult Nuzlocke rules to make the games even more challenging. His channel and social media are certainly for mature audiences, but it’s a great experience for hardcore fans of the franchise.
MasaeAnela
MasaeAnela is a YouTuber who primarily focuses on Let’s Plays of Nintendo games. Most recently, she’s completed the final stretch of beating Yoshi’s Woolly World, the spiritual successor to Kirby’s Epic Yarn.
MasaeAnela currently has 128k subscribers, and hopefully, her playthroughs of Yoshi’s Woolly World and Let’s Go Pikachu can get her to an even greater count. She has a great voice for storytelling, and her videos are enjoyable for any Nintendo fans who want to watch a fun and relaxing playthrough.
NintendoCapriSun
NintendoCapriSun is, true to their name, a YouTuber that specializes in Nintendo content. Like many other Let’s Players, he’s also a Twitch streamer. In particular, NintendoCapriSun streams pretty consistently on Tuesdays and Fridays around 7 pm EST.
NintendoCapriSun will certainly play newer games, like his playthrough of Metroid Dread that began around the time it came out. However, he’s mostly willing to play whatever he enjoys the most at the time. Which is, in itself, part of the charm of his channel. NintendoCapriSun is unapologetically NintendoCapriSun and is always true to himself in the content he puts out.
Chuggaaconroy
Chuggaaconrooy is one of the most famous names in the Let’s Player scene that has remained active for quite a while. He’s best known for his boisterous personality and great energy.
While Chuggaaconoy has played multiple genres from multiple platforms, his passion seems to be Nintend0-leaning. His recent Xenoblade Chronicles 2 playthrough lasted for 220 episodes, each totaling at least 20 minutes to upwards of an hour. It may seem lengthy, but that extensive coverage of a game down to the last detail is part of what makes Chuggaaconroy so great.
