10 Best Kingpin Quotes From The MCU

10 Best Kingpin Quotes From The MCU

Since his debut in 2015’s Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, has provided the MCU with some of its most powerful, sinister and threatening quotes. Vincent D’Onofrio first appeared as Wilson Fisk in Marvel Television’s Daredevil series on Netflix, and quickly became one of the most popular aspects of the mature Marvel show. Following the series’ cancelation in 2018, D’Onofrio’s future as Fisk was left uncertain, but he returned in all his glory in 2021’s Hawkeye, and has since made a more substantial appearance in 2024’s Echo ahead of his starring role in Marvel Studio’s upcoming Daredevil: Born Again.

Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, has been adapted from Marvel Comics’ Kingpin, who debuted in 1967’s The Amazing Spider-Man #50. While Kingpin was introduced as an adversary to Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, he has become more associated with Matt Murdock’s Daredevil in the years since, and continues to pose a major threat to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the MCU. As an aggressive, violent and emotional street-level villain, Kingpin has delivered some of the MCU’s most powerful quotes, and will surely provide many more as his influence and strength continues to grow in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga and beyond.

Vincent D’Onofrio returned as Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin in Phase 5’s Echo, though his current MCU storyline may support a game-changing power theory.

10 “Young Man, Life Is Not A Fairytale. Not Everyone Deserves A Happy Ending.”

Daredevil Season 1, Episode 6, “Condemned” (2015)

Kingpin in car at night in Daredevil season 1 episode 6

Daredevil season 1 not only introduced audiences to Charlie Cox’s titular blind vigilante, but also brought Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin into live-action for the first time. The relationship between hero and villain was developed brilliantly over the course of the season, particularly during one conversation in episode 6, “Condemned.” After Daredevil battles the Russian criminal Vladimir, Wilson Fisk speaks to his vigilante adversary over a police radio, showing admiration for the fact that Murdock wants to bring peace to New York City, but belittling him at the same moment, and proving his steadfastness in his own ambitions for the city.

9 “It Makes Me Feel Alone.”

Daredevil Season 1, Episode 3, “Rabbit in a Snowstorm” (2015)

Daredevil season 1 also introduced Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna, who would later become Wilson Fisk’s wife. Fisk and Vanessa meet at the Scene Contempo Gallery in episode 3, “Rabbit in a Snowstorm,” with the episode named after the artwork that Fisk admires. Claiming that “Rabbit in a Snowstorm” made him “feel alone,” it would later be revealed that the white painting reminded Fisk of the wall of his childhood bedroom, where he’d listen to his father’s abuse. This painting carried a huge amount of importance for Fisk, and its backstory informed many of his nefarious choices throughout the series.

8 “I Know Now That I Failed You, The Same As My Father Failed Me.”

Echo Episode 4, “Taloa” (2024)

Kingpin speaking to Maya Lopez about his father in Echo

While Fisk’s history with Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez wasn’t mentioned at all in Daredevil, this relationship has become a huge aspect of his personality in the MCU proper. In Echo episode 4, “Taloa,” Fisk greets Lopez, having survived the bullet that she fired at him in Hawkeye. He takes the opportunity to remind audiences of his father’s abuse in this moment, claiming that he had failed Maya the same as his father had failed him. This also confirms that some aspects of Daredevil have officially been made canon in the MCU, such as Fisk murdering his father as a child.

7 “I’ve Done Things I’m Not Proud Of, Vanessa.”

Daredevil Season 1, Episode 5, “World On Fire” (2015)

Kingpin and Vanessa watching New York explosions in Daredevil season 1 episode 5

While Fisk initially tries to hide his criminality from Vanessa in Daredevil season 1, perhaps for fear of scaring her away, he soon divulges all his ambitions for New York, and proves how far he’ll go to make them happen. Before Fisk’s henchmen blow up various locations across Hell’s Kitchen to take out the Russian Mafia, Fisk reveals that he’s “done things [he’s] not proud of” to his date. Instead of leaving, however, Vanessa stands by Fisk’s side as the city burns, showcasing her fast dedication to the villain, and teasing her future as his outright partner in crime.

6 “No Prison Can Keep Me, You Know That… Come On. Kill Me!”

Daredevil Season 3, Episode 13, “A New Napkin” (2018)

Kingpin covered in blood in Daredevil season 3 episode 13

Kingpin and Daredevil’s epic final battle in Daredevil season 3’s finale, “A New Napkin,” was truly a sight to behold, but aside from being the most bloody and violent battle between the pair, this also marked one of their most interesting conversations. No matter how much Murdock wanted to kill Fisk at this moment, he instead made a deal with the villain after Fisk claimed that no prison would be able to hold him, referencing his intelligent escape from Ryker’s. If Fisk stopped hunting Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, and kept Daredevil’s identity secret, Murdock wouldn’t implicate Vanessa in Fisk’s crimes.

5 “You And I Are Family. Sometimes, Family Doesn’t See Eye To Eye…”

Hawkeye Episode 6, “So This Is Christmas?” (2021)

Whether this was meant to be a funny spin on Kingpin’s fate isn’t clear, but the fact that he noted that family doesn’t always see “eye to eye” before Maya Lopez shot Kingpin in the eye is worth mentioning. Aside from teasing his injury, this line in Hawkeye’s finale, “So This is Christmas?,” cemented the familial bond between Maya and Fisk, despite them not actually being related at all. Fisk had practically raised Maya from her childhood as her father had been working for him, yet he constantly abused his position as a member of her family to manipulate her.

4 “In Prison, There’s Only Room For One Kingpin.”

Daredevil Season 2, Episode 9, “Seven Minutes In Heaven” (2016)

Kingpin in prison in Daredevil season 2

Daredevil season 2 marked the first time Wilson Fisk referred to himself as the Kingpin, as he sought to take over Ryker’s Island from fellow inmate Dutton. Fisk employed Frank Castle’s Punisher to complete this mission, and soon had full control of the prison, allowing him to orchestrate his complex and layered escape plan involving the FBI. Hearing Fisk refer to himself as Kingpin was a thrilling moment for many die-hard fans of Marvel Comics, and this codename has stuck in his recent appearances in the MCU’s Hawkeye and Echo, meaning Daredevil showed Fisk’s full transformation into the iconic supervillain.

3 “I’m Not The Samaritan… I’m Not The Priest, Or The Levite… I Am The Ill Intent…”

Daredevil Season 1, Episode 13, “Daredevil” (2015)

Kingpin giving his good samaritan speech in Daredevil season 1 episode 13

All hope seemed lost for Wilson Fisk in Daredevil season 1’s finale, “Daredevil,” as he was captured and seemed to be on his way to jail. Before making his escape and engaging in battle with Daredevil, however, Fisk recited a parable from the Bible, specifically the story of the Good Samaritan. While it seemed as though he was building up to making himself the Good Samaritan, Fisk actually referred to himself as the ill intent that set upon the traveler on the road, providing a perfect glimpse into his anger, aggression and brutality that would fuel his fight with Daredevil.

2 “You And I, We Are The Only Ones We Can Trust”

Echo Episode 4, “Taloa” (2024)

Maya Lopez and Wilson Fisk at Sunday family dinner in Echo episode 4

Wilson Fisk’s manipulation of Maya Lopez in the MCU has been made abundantly clear in both Hawkeye and Echo, particularly during moments where it’s only the two of them engaging in conversation. Fisk had been grooming Lopez to take over his empire, training her to be an incredibly violent and brutal warrior over the duration of her childhood and adolescence. This culminated in her “final lesson” in Echo episode 4’s flashback, which saw Fisk claim that the pair can only trust each other. This evidently turned out to be false, as Echo turned to her Choctaw family for help.

1 “The People Need To Be Reminded That The City Belongs To Me.”

Hawkeye Episode 6, “So This Is Christmas?” (2021)

While Wilson Fisk’s actions have certainly been illegal, morally tarnished and downright horrific, they have always been in the name of protecting New York City. This idea was solidified in Hawkeye’s finale, as Fisk claimed “the city belongs to [him],” noting that the people need to be reminded. This teased his future as the Mayor of New York, following on from Echo’s post-credits scene, and cements Fisk’s delusion that he is the only man capable of protecting the city that birthed him. Vincent D’Onofrio is set to return in Daredevil: Born Again, which will surely deliver many more incredible Kingpin quotes.
