10 Best Duos In Hazbin Hotel Season 1, Ranked

10 Best Duos In Hazbin Hotel Season 1, Ranked

The characters of Hazbin Hotel form some of the best pairings, including friendships, romances, rivalries, or even a brief connection due to a common goal. Most of the main characters fall into at least one important duality, which drives the arcs of both characters. Leading the way is Princess of Hell Charlie Morningstar (Erika Henningsen), who, with the unwavering support of her girlfriend Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz), opens a hotel where the residents of Hell can redeem themselves.

During Hazbin Hotel season 1, Charlie and Vaggie face off with a duo from Heaven who will do everything to prevent demons from escaping Hell. Meanwhile, friendships are formed and cemented among the hotel’s residents and staff. These interpersonal relationships are the foundation of the show and set up promising storylines for Hazbin Hotel season 2 and beyond.

Hazbin Hotel Continues A Positive Representation Trend In Animated Shows

Hazbin Hotel is notable for its rousing musicals and distinct animation style. However, its handling of diverse characters also helps it stand out.

10
Adam & Lute

Adam and Lute are unlikable characters but work well as a unit.

Adam and Lute in Hazbin Hotel

Hazbin Hotel’s Adam (Alex Brightman) is generally detestable and is always accompanied by his strait-laced and equally unlikable second-in-command, Lute (Jessica Vosk). Adam and Lute are the villainous counterparts of Charlie and Vaggie, both being one-serious and one-silly duos. It is hard to imagine Adam or Lute genuinely caring about anything until Adam is killed and Lute has an emotional reaction. They are an interesting pairing since they have likely been working together for a long time and seem to both think the exterminations are justified. However, they are both such unlikable characters that whatever partnership they have has no impact.

9
Vox & Val

It is fun to watch Vox and Val fail, separately or together.

Vox and Valentino in Hazbin Hotel

While they are not among the best characters in Hazbin Hotel, the Vees are interesting and flamboyant secondary villains. Vox (Christian Borle) and Valentino “Val” (Joel Perez) are self-indulgent, while Velvette (Lilli Cooper) is the sophisticated, self-proclaimed “backbone of the Vees.” Vox has a chaotic rivalry with Alastor (Amir Talai), while Val is unforgivable because of how he abuses Angel (Blake Roman).

In the context of their hostile relationships with other characters, Vox and Val are an entertaining duo because they torment each other even when the main cast is off-screen. Whenever one is freaking out about Alastor or Angel, the other is blasé. They are the villains in the story, but it is at least amusing to watch things go wrong for them.

8
Carmilla & Zestial

Carmilla and Zestial are Overlords of Hell with an unexplained friendship.

Carmilla Carmine (Daphne Rubin-Vega) and Zestial (James Monroe Iglehart) are both side characters with main character energy. They both have memorable aesthetics: Carmilla with her ballerina-warrior attire, Zestial with his outrageously archaic way of speaking. Yet, for one reason or another, they are close friends. Carmilla snaps at Velvette that “no one speaks to Zestial that way” when she calls him a coward. Carmilla also confides in Zestial that she killed an angel defending her daughters. The show does not reveal any backstory for them, but it is an interesting plot point that two very attention-worthy characters are simply friends.

7
Alastor & Rosie

Alastor has a friendly if underdeveloped relationship with the leader of Cannibal Town.

Charlie Morningstar, Rosie, and Alastor in Hazbin Hotel.

Alastor reveals late in season 1 that he has a close friendship with Rosie (Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer), the leader of Cannibal Town. Alastor and Rosie have an easy dynamic, helping Charlie along the way in recruiting Cannibal Town. Rosie is fascinating because she likely knows more about Alastor than most of the main Hazbin Hotel cast, and any figure from Alastor’s mysterious past prompts speculation.

Alastor and Rosie don’t have enough screen time together to really be one of the show’s best duos, but they are so comfortable around each other that it would be great to know more about them. Rosie also ascertains that Alastor is sticking with Charlie not necessarily because he believes in her mission, but because he sees her potential to become a powerful player. This quick moment during “Ready For This” shows exactly how well Rosie knows Alastor, and how she thinks along the same lines as him.

Fans of Hazbin Hotel are all wondering what is next for Charlie and co. after a battle against the angels and multiple twists in the season 1 finale.

6
Sir Pentious & The Egg Bois

Sir Pentious’ relationship with his evil minions is hilariously sweet.

Sir Pentious and Egg Bois in Hazbin Hotel

One of the most surprisingly heartfelt relationships in Hazbin Hotel is between Sir Pentious (also Brightman) and his evil minions, the Egg Bois (Joe Gran). The Egg Bois are hilarious versions of villainous henchmen, who proclaim outrageous things like that “bank accounts are a scam created by the shadow government.” However, despite the Egg Bois antics and Pentious ordering them around, Pentious is genuinely devastated when Vaggie tells him he must get rid of all the eggs. Pentious’ adorable moments of being separated from and reuniting with the Egg Bois alone make it a relationship worth the emotional investment.

5
Angel & Cherri Bomb

Angel and Cherri Bomb can support each other despite wanting different things.

Another character introduced later in season 1 is Angel’s long-time friend Cherri Bomb (Krystina Alabado). Most people would expect Cherri to be the friend who encourages the worst in Angel, whom he inevitably must cut out of his life. This is partially true since she drags him out for a night of partying and pushes him to drink more.

However, after Angel keeps Niffty (Kimiko Glenn) out of trouble and confronts Val, Cherri’s character shifts. Cherri tells Angel that she’s happy he’s happy at the hotel, but that she doesn’t want to try to redeem herself. Angel and Cherri appear to be friends who can support each other despite being on different paths. However, they will always have each other’s backs, and Cherri is immediately there to help defend the hotel in Hazbin Hotel season 1’s finale.

4
Alastor & Niffty

Alastor and Niffty have a surprising friendship that the fans love.

Fans have noticed Alastor’s surprisingly sweet relationship with the frenzied housekeeper — Niffty climbs all over Alastor whenever she pleases, even moments after he removes her (episode 2). Creator Vivienne Medrano said in a live stream (via YouTube): “He’s very fond of her; that’s something that’s kind of lasted through like every iteration of the characters […] he thinks she’s really fun and endearing.” Their quirky dynamic and similarly morbid sense of humor make them a fan-favorite pairing. They have an unlikely friendship, but Niffty is clearly more comfortable around Alastor than any of the other characters.

3
Charlie & Emily

Charlie and Emily have a brief but powerful moment together.

Charlie and Emily singing together in Hazbin Hotel

Charlie and the angel Emily (Shoba Narayan) spend only one episode together in season 1 and are perhaps only one of the show’s best pairings because of their amazing harmonies as they defiantly sing that “if Hell is forever, then Heaven must be a lie.” Yet this line reflects Charlie and Emily’s immediate connection when they find a kindred spirit in one another. Their potential friendship and partnership comes across as very powerful because they are both ready to upend Heaven’s corrupt standard and are bonded by this. Right away, it feels like they could take on the world together.

2
Charlie & Vaggie

Charlie and Vaggie are the power couple behind the Hazbin Hotel.

Charlie and Vaggie have an oft-seen dynamic of optimistic and realistic, but are committed to the same thing. They are the duo that makes everything in Hazbin Hotel happen. It would be expected for them to come into some conflict, but they are conscious of what they need to do to be a good partner, and never put each other down. However, while they are committed to each other and the vision of the hotel, their relationship evolves and grows stronger as Vaggie’s past is revealed, and she supports Charlie through her tense reunion with her dad.

1
Angel & Husk

Angel and Husk have a complex friendship and sing the best song in Hazbin Hotel.

Angel and Husk’s (Keith David) friendship is the most memorable because together they sing what is hands down the best song in Hazbin Hotel. When the show starts, their interactions are entirely Angel flirting and Husk trying to get rid of Angel. However, they both go through startling character development when they figure out that they have a lot in common and can support each other.

From then on, Husk and Angel have a steadfast friendship: They enjoy watching Charlie’s family drama, and Husk offers Angel encouragement. Interestingly, it is not clear if either of them completely believes in the mission of the hotel, at least not the way Charlie and Vaggie do. What makes Angel and Husk the best duo of Hazbin Hotel is what their actions say: Even if Hell is forever, they are going to stick by their friends.
