10 Best Characters From Love Actually

10 Best Characters From Love Actually

While Christmas may have been and gone for another year it’s never too early to start talking about the festive period once again. By the time it rolls around again we’ll have a string of new world champions in the world of sports, there will be a whole host of new TV shows for us to indulge in and we could have a new President of the United States – but even with that all being the case, one thing that’ll never go out of fashion is Love Actually.

Today, we’re going to list the 10 characters that always make us fall in love with that movie every single time we watch it.

Karen

10 Best Characters From Love Actually

The part of Karen was performed brilliantly as we were welcomed into the world of someone who not only had to deal with a husband who was drifting away from her, but also a brother that was trying to run the country as Prime Minister.

Some writers of the movie have since confirmed that not only did the alleged affair go through but that Karen also chose to stay with Harry despite the heartbreak.

Still, even though that’s not the decision everyone would take, many still admire her strength.

Daniel

Losing a loved one is never easy, but losing your partner is a particularly heart-breaking experience that the majority of us wouldn’t wish on our own worst enemy.

That’s the fate that falls at the feet of Daniel as he attempts to navigate his way through becoming a widow. As the movie goes on he starts to get a bit more of a spring in his step again, to the point where he’s able to help Sam out with a crush he has at school.

When he meets someone by the time Love Actually ends, it really does feel like a lovely transformation.

Harry

Despite the fact that Harry cheated on his wife, the character himself was incredibly intoxicating – with the majority of that coming down to the overwhelming acting skills showcased by Alan Rickman.

Harry was a conflicted man who was clearly going through some kind of midlife crisis, which a lot of people can sympathize with.

He may be the enemy in one portion of the story but his quick wit was enough to keep the audience interested in how his story was going to unfold both with Karen and with Mia.

Jamie

Jamie is another individual who has experienced the pain of being cheated on, but in many ways his situation was worse as it was his own brother doing the deed with his partner at the time.

He decided to jet off to France in order to collect his thoughts, and it was there that he met Aurélia.

Despite the language barrier between the two they were able to form a genuine connection, with his speech at the end of the movie being one of the best parts of the whole production.

Natalie

While she may not have seemed like much upon a quick glance, Natalie was one of the most charming characters in Love Actually.

Only a few people seemed to realize that from start to finish, with one being the President of the United States and the other being the Prime Minister. It didn’t appear to be a relationship that was going to go anywhere, mainly due to David’s reservations, but he was eventually able to pluck up the courage to go and ask her out.

From there, as they say, the rest is history.

Mark

Mark is one of the quieter characters within all of the subplots, and yet, he had probably the most memorable moment of the entire thing.

While Juliet and her partner Peter always seemed to believe that Mark didn’t like Juliet whatsoever, it turns out that the complete opposite was true: he was in love with her.

Mark professed that love through a series of messages printed on large cards, as he stood at the door of Juliet and let her know just how much she meant to him after all that time.

Colin

If you were looking for some light-hearted relief from Love Actually, then Colin was your man.

The wannabe womanizer wanted to go in search of love – or, at the very least, a one night stand.

His journey took him all the way to the United States of America where he met a string of beautiful women, two of which he brought back to England with him during the famous Heathrow Airport scene.

Colin was silly and may have seemed out of place, but he was perfect for this type of role.

Sam

After dealing with the death of his mother, Sam soon found himself in a situation that we all do at his age: he experienced the feeling of being in love for the very first time.

With the help of his stepdad Daniel, he was finally able to profess his feelings for Joanna courtesy of the famous ‘running through the airport’ scene.

He was a charming young man that really added a sense of innocence to the film, which was much needed given the overarching seriousness of the situation and the topics that LA deals with.

Billy

Billy Mack the rockstar is trying to re-live his glory days alongside his manager Joe, with his primary goal being to become the Christmas number one in the UK.

He’s brutally honest about the way in which his career has gone over the course of the previous few years, and he’s also quite open about, well, everything else, too.

The black and white nature of his persona is what drew many fans towards him when they first watched the film, and that trend sticks quite nicely upon many, many viewings.

David

Hugh Grant’s portrayal of David sometimes leaves us wondering whether or not he actually was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at any stage.

He came across as an incredibly charismatic PM from the word go, and his love for Natalie only helped to further that trend as he wrestled with the idea of either going after her or sacking her.

From sticking up to the President all the way through to dancing to one of his favorite songs, David is the kind of leader that the UK could use.
