Historia Reiss

10 Best Attack On Titan Characters According To Ranker

Historia is a minor character when first introduced in the anime. She is best described as shy yet kind to her peers, but she holds a deep secret that quickly changes everything. After it is revealed that she is the true Monarch of the walls a leader emerges. A woman who was once uncertain about her place among her friends is now a queen ready to take on anything.

There’s a little bit of Historia in everyone. A person who yearns to be great but is held back because of their insecurities. She also has a painful upbringing, but what’s so amazing about her is through all of that pain she turns it into strength and becomes a fearless leader. Historia stands out amongst her peers because she is the underdog when she is first introduced and becomes one of the characters that change the most.

Connie Springer

Connie Springer talking in the anime Attack on Titan

Amongst his peers, Coonie is the most outgoing and is also the jokester in the group; he can also sometimes be a little too unfocused. This changes though after Connie finds out that his mother transformed into a titan. Since then he became more level-headed and eager to bring down the forces that oppose his group.

Connie is the cheerleader of the group, and although a goofball sometimes, in the end, he’s ready to take care of business when the time approaches. What also makes this character so special is that he’s not special. He’s not the king of the walls, he’s not a Titan destined to save the world, he’s just Connie, a kid who wants to bring peace to the land. That’s why fans love this character, he’s relatable and has a simple backstory as to why he is the person he is today.

Jean Kirstein

Jean Kirstein Looking Jealous in Attack on Titan.

Jean starts as an arrogant character who only cares for himself. That all changes after the death of Marco and viewers slowly start to see a change in Jean. Once a man who only wanted to take the easy road out is now a leader ready to help his comrades in any way he can.

Marco said it best, it’s because of Jean’s flaws that he’s able to understand others and lead them with empathy. It’s as if Jean sees a little bit of himself amongst his peers and can somewhat understand what they are going through, and at the same time help them overcome those obstacles.

Armin Arlert

Armin Arlert looking pensive in Attack on Titan

Although Armin is introduced as someone with self-esteem issues he becomes one of the main people his friends turn to when they are in a bad situation, as one of the most intelligent characters in the series. He’s also loyal and optimistic which can sometimes help him, but also hurt him in the long run.

There are many reasons why Armin is one of the best Attack On Titan characters. Most notably he finds out that Annie is the Female Titan, and sacrifices himself multiple times to save his friends. Sure, his comrades have these traits as well, but what makes Armin great and stand out, is the fact that’s not as strong as his peers, but uses his brains and heart to become a hero in his way.

Sasha Braus

Sasha Braus

Sasha comes off as a surprise to many because on the outside it seems all she cares about is food, but when push comes to shove she will do whatever it takes to protect her loved ones.

It’s no secret Attack On Titan is a dark show, and with a show so serious there needs to be some type of comedic relief. Sasha is that comedic relief that this show needs. What makes her character even better is the anime evens her out by giving her serious moments, most notably when her life is taken at the beginning of season 4 in a shocking and heartbreaking turn of events.

Erwin Smith

Erwin Smith leading the charge against the Beast Titan - Attack on Titan

Erwin steals the show multiple times and it’s because of his bravery and leadership skills. He is the one responsible for recruiting Levi and has saved many of his comrades, including Eren, from being captured by Reiner and Bertholdt. His bravery, however, is also his downfall. A prime example is when he sacrificed himself and his soldiers all in hopes to kill the beast titan, personifying the archetypal strong Captain character.

What makes Erwin a likable character is even though he has power and authority, he treats his comrades like family. They know they can turn to him if they are in danger. Erwin gives fans somewhat of a relief and hope when they see him on screen because they know whatever he’s going to do will be the best for his comrades.

Eren Yeager

Eren Yeager looking shocked in Attack on Titan

The main character of the story. Eren Yeager is a hot head, but also has a lot of passion in him. He’s determined to avenge the death of his mother and his friends who have met their demise because of the Titans. When he discovers his newfound titan power he slowly starts becoming a leader his peers can turn to.

Eren’s character development is one for the books. He is the definition of not giving up until the goal is met, which is why is he likable. Eren Jeager goes through many sad moments throughout his life, and these moments are real human emotions that many go through, including, losing his mother and wanting to avenge her death, as well as learning about his newfound powers and doing everything he can to stop the titans. But his actions in season 4 have made viewers question just where his character arc will end.

Mikasa Ackerman

Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan

One of the more mysterious characters of the series, Mikasa is a full-fledged warrior with some of the best fight scenes. Her main goal in life is to protect Eren, and her loyalty is so far deep to her friend that she would even sacrifice herself if she knew he would be safe.

Although Mikasa can somewhat have robotic emotions at times, there is a bit of sadness towards her. A prime example is her background. Her parents are killed in front of her and she is constantly made fun of as a child because of the way she looks. These examples humanize Mikasa because many people can relate to losing a loved one or being treated differently for the way they look.

Hange Zoe

Zoe Hange in Attack On Titan

Hange is all about her intelligence and knowledge, as a leader, she is a force to be reckoned with and a great mentor to Eren and the gang. Hange is also fearless; for example, she was one of the few people who believed that Eren could be a part of the survey corps. She understands that he could be the key to stopping the Titans once and for all.

What makes Hange so likable is that she’s dedicated. If she believes in someone she won’t give up on them. Without this fearless leader, Eren and the rest would be doomed. She helps people better understand the Titans by risking her life and experimenting on them, plus she helps Eren try to figure out his powers.

Levi Ackerman

Levi Ackerman holding something in Attack on Titan

Levi is calm and very talented in combat. He takes down the female Titan with ease as well as many of his other foes. These traits alone are why Levi is well respected by Eren and the group. He also has great instincts and knows when to go into battle and when to retreat.

Levi wasn’t always as strong as he is now. He has a tragic backstory as a child where he was on the verge of death, but not only that, he also watched his mother die. All of these hardships that he faced made him into the person that he is today. He evolved from a child with a traumatizing upbringing to a full-fledged hero, and that’s why fans respect him.
