10 Awesome Sci-Fi Movies To Check Out If You’re A Fan Of Among Us

Every now and then an online game comes out of nowhere and takes the world by storm, and Among Us is the latest to do so. As Among Us is about a group of crewmates who are getting picked off one be one by an imposter, the game is full of mystery and surprises, and it has led to a lot of parallels between science fiction movies too.

Whether it’s a manhunt in space, a thrilling cat and mouse classic, or a captivating Australian movie about time loops, there are so many movies that seemingly share DNA with the game and are full of surprises.

Ad Astra (2019)

10 Awesome Sci-Fi Movies To Check Out If You’re A Fan Of Among Us

Being one of the movies that critics loved but audiences hated, Ad Astra has been completely polarising in its time since it was first released last year. However, not only is it similar to Among Us for its space concept, but the movie is full of mystery from the very opening scene. An astronaut, played brilliantly by Brad Pitt, is sent on a mission to find his father, but he is of course confronted by so many issues that get in the mission at large.

Predator (1987)

Arnold Schwarzenegger ready to fire in Predator 1987

Though there may be a lot of great one liners in the series, and it is what the first movie especially is known for, there’s a lot more to Predator than it’s hilarious and overly masculine lines of dialogue. The first Predator movie is one of the greatest manhunt movies ever made, as the titular monster is taking down Arnie’s crew one at a time, and not only do the monsters look terrifying, but the fear in the actors’ performances are really felt.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

Arnold Schwarzenegger terminator 2

With Terminator 2: Judgement Day being the long-awaited follow up to one of the greatest cat and mouse chase movies of all time, the movie blew expectations out of the water and is even an improvement on its predecessor. Part of the reason why is that it plays on the audience’s pre-existing knowledge of who the bad guy is.

As Arnie’s character was the antagonist in the original movie, he is turned into the savior in the sequel, and even though it was one of the times marketing spoiled the movie, it’s one of the most surprising twists in cinema history.

The Thing (1982)

The Thing (1982)

Though some people believe The Thing is one of the franchises that needs a reboot, the John Carpenter original is an exceptional science fiction horror movie. In a movie filled with great things, such as Kurt Russell’s starring role and the incredible, terrifying practical effects, the very best thing about The Thing is that the monster is a parasite that lives inside people, meaning it leaves the characters guessing who the vicious killer could be.

Interstellar (2014)

10 interstellar Cropped

Being another space odyssey full of mystery, Interstellar has had it’s fair share of criticisms, as it is still one of the most polarising movies of the millennium, but that doesn’t stop people from still talking about it relentlessly even six years after its release. Being a movie that awkwardly tackles wormholes and parallel universes, it marks the first Christopher Nolan movie that shows how much he is clearly trying to outdo himself in terms of visuals and mystery, and he does outdo himself on one of those things…

The Prestige (2006)

Alfred and Robert talking in The Prestige

Interstellar isn’t the only Christopher Nolan movie on the list, as the celebrated director has a penchant for creating grand sci-fi movies with dense, confusing narratives that are intentionally left open-ended. Well, The Prestige is one of the few that is actually neatly wrapped up, as the big reveal at the end of the movie is what makes it imperative for Among Us fans to watch, and it’s one of the reasons why The Prestige is Nolan’s most underrated movie.

Triangle (2009)

Jess is being followed by a masked murderer on a cruise ship in Triangle

Triangle may well be one of the most overlooked movies of the 21st century, as very few people have ever heard of it. Released in 2009, the Australian movie follows a group of friends who find a cruiser ship that happens to be completely empty.

After spending some time on the ship, each member of the group is getting murdered one at a time, and it’s down to them to try to figure out who the killer is.

Minority Report (2002)

Tom Cruise in Minority Report

Being one of the many sci-fi movies that Steven Spielberg directed during his phase of working solely with Tom Cruise, Minority Report is possibly the best of the lot. Minority Report follows an agent whose mission is to hunt down criminals who are about to commit crimes. The movie creates this great hypothetical argument about whether a person who intends on committing a crime should be arrested (or murdered) if they haven’t actually committed the crime yet.

Blade Runner (1982)

Rick Deckard Blade Runner

Blade Runner is another sci-fi romp that will similarly send viewers through so many twists and turns as an agent, Deckard, is sent to kill Replicants living among humans in a visually stunning futuristic world. A lot is uncovered in its two-hour run time, and with the way Ridley Scott shot the movie, the audience joins in on Deckard’s search as he tries to uncover who is a Replicant and who isn’t, and it’s one of Harrison Ford’s best performances.

Alien (1979)

Alien 1979 Ellen Ripley Xenomorph Fog Ending

Alien is the ultimate movie to watch for fans of Among Us, though it isn’t for viewers who are faint-hearted. The movie is one of the scariest films of all time, as the Alien picks of the crew members one at a time, leading members to either work together or fend for themselves, always looking over their shoulders. It’s one of the most well-paced horror movies ever made and even though it’s now more than 30 years old, it still holds ups and it’s certainly still terrifying.
