Now that the Multiverse of Madness has been unlocked, there is no telling who could appear in the MCU when the X-Men finally arrive. There has been a lot of talk about who can revamp the mutants and fill the role and the actors who originally played them in the Fox franchise of films – which the X-Men cameo in the latest Doctor Strange definitely increased.
One of the most likely mutants to join the MCU first is Storm – one of the best known X-Men, and a character who has appeared in both the original X-Men films and the recent soft-reboots. Should she appear as part of the Marvel big-screen universe, though, Redditors have plenty of opinions on who should be the next to play her.
Keke Palmer
One Reddit user suggested Keke Palmer suit up as Storm. At the time of the post, some commenters said Palmer was too young for the role. However, since then, Palmer has proven herself to be a leading lady. Palmer starred in the horror-blaxploitation film Alice in 2022, where she took on the lead role. She confirmed that she could play a butt-kicking heroine and deliver one-liners that strike the audience at just the right time. Depending on the MCU’s direction with Storm, Keke Palmer would make a great young Storm.
Freema Agyeman
User AngusBurgermeister thought Doctor Who actress Freema Agyeman would be best suited for the role. As she already appears on a sci-fi show that fans love, other Redditors seemed enthusiastic about the choice, with comments like “Wow I hadn’t thought of her but she’d be perfect!”. Agyeman already has experience working on sets with CGI and special effects, which would give the actress an advantage stepping onto the set. The MCU has been choosing more established actors and actresses to fill their roles versus up-and-coming actors, so Agyeman may already be on the MCU’s radar.
Gina Torres
User FinnSolomon said, “Because we can do better than Fox. I like Gina Torres, but I’m not sure if she’s too old at this point.” Despite the Redditor being concerned about Torres being too old for the role, the MCU could bring Storm in as a more mature and seasoned mutant. Given the possibilities that have come with the multiverse, there is no telling how old the X-Men may be when they finally make their grand entrance.
Torres has already participated in sci-fi roles before, like The Matrix and Westworld. As such, an accomplished actress, Torres, would do the part of Storm justice.
Naomie Harris
Redditor vtallday_ suggested two actresses who could fill the role of Storm, saying, “Naomie Harris if they want to do a Black Panther romance. She’s the same age as Chadwick…” Of course, with the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, it is unlikely the second installment in the Black Panther series, Wakanda Forever, will feature the romance between Storm and T’Challa like in the comics. However, this doesn’t discredit Harris from being fit for the role. But her role in Venom: Let There Be Carnage may take Harris out of the running.
Zoe Kravitz
The same Redditor, vtallday_, also said, “I also like Zoe Kravitz if they want a younger Storm.” While Kravitz was remarkable in her role as Catwoman in The Batman, she would be able to carry the part of Storm as well. But given that Kravitz Catwoman is likely to receive at least one spin-off, it is doubtful that Kravtiz will be making an MCU debut soon. If the MCU did decide to make Zoe Kravitz their Storm, fans of the Marvel franchise would be thrilled, without a doubt.
Carmen Ejogo
Reddit user MarvelWizard17 suggested Carmen Ejgogo, who recently appeared in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. They said, “I think she would be great. I want her in the MCU.” Ejgogo has already donned the white hair associated with Storm in her role in Fantastic Beasts.
Ejgogo has proven that she can carry the weight of fantasy and sci-fi roles, as most of her recent resume is comprised of these types of roles. The actress’s experience in action sequences would slate her for a role of a future X-Men.
YaYa DaCosta
Yaya DaCosta has all but disappeared from her role as ED nurse April on Chicago Med, leaving fans to speculate where the actress has been. Could the position of Storm be filled by DaCosta? Redditor Sidders1993 suggested DaCosta fill the role, but other users doubted the actress’s acting skills were up to the challenge.
Dacosta has worked under the Disney umbrella before with her role in Tron. A role of this caliper would be a first for the actress, but given her leading role in Chicago Med, DaCosta is more than capable of taking up the moniker of Storm.
Sonequa Martin-Green
La_Merq on Reddit posted, “How about Sonequa Martin-Green?” to which the original poster FinnSolomon said, “Inspired choice!” Martin-Green has made a significant impact on Hollywood with roles in the latest reboot of Star Trek. As the lead in Star Trek Discovery, Sonequa Martin-Green has shown she can carry a high sci-fi role, which makes her a great candidate for the position of Storm. Storm has to be a commanding presence as she is one of the most powerful X-Men.
Janelle Monáe
Janelle Monáe has proven that they are worthy of leading roles in Hollywood and has been winning critics over with each role they take on. Redditor patrickoriley posted Monáe’s name in a discussion of who should play Storm in the MCU. Given that Monáe has been racking up more and more leading roles in different movie genres, now would be the perfect time for the actor to step into a role as a superhero. Monáe has acted next to big Hollywood names already and has outshone them, so there is no reason they couldn’t be Storm.
Ruth Negga
VargtheGrey suggested Ruth Negga fill the MCU role. However, there is one reason Negga may not be chosen for the character. As another Redditor said, “She already had a pretty significant role and Agents of Shield.” With the recent admission that Agents of Shield is canon in the MCU, it is likely that anyone who appeared on the show will not be getting a new role in the MCU. However, Gemma Chan appeared in Captain Marvel and Eternals, so anything is possible.
