1 Throwaway Line In Percy Jackson Episode 7 Teases A Major Storyline 4 Seasons Before It Happens

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 7 and the original Percy Jackson book series.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 7 includes one seemingly inconsequential line that teases a major storyline in the future. After Percy Jackson episode 6’s detour to Las Vegas, the trio of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover finally make their way into the Underworld. In the realm of Percy Jackson‘s Greek god Hades, the children encounter a host of new dangers as their quest to uncover the mystery of the Lightning Thief barrels toward its end.

Given the premise of Percy Jackson episode 7’s story, much of the installment took place within the Underworld. This brought new variations of Percy Jackson‘s Greek mythological monsters, new locations, and more world-building to the Disney+ show. While a lot of this world-building worked in the context of the episode, some lines of dialogue and visual hints were utilized to tease stories that may not happen for years.

Disney+’s take on Percy Jackson and The Olympians is already thrilling during its first season, but will there be more adventures in the future?

Percy Jackson Episode 7 Teases Percy’s Curse Of Achilles

At one point in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 7, the River Styx is mentioned. In Greek mythology, the River Styx separated the Underworld from the land of the living. This is the same in Percy Jackson‘s reimagined world of Greek myth with the River Styx playing a vital part in the fifth book, Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian. In this book, Percy bathes in the River Styx to receive the Curse of Achilles in which he becomes immortal aside from one secret spot on his body that remains vulnerable and can be attacked to remove the Curse.

This comes from the ancient Greek hero Achilles who was dropped in the River Styx as a child. His mother held onto him by his heel meaning that part of his body remained vulnerable. As is known from the myth, Achilles was defeated by being shot in the heel. In Percy Jackson, the titular character imbues himself with the Curse of Achilles to fight against Kronos’ army by bathing in the River Styx – something that Luke Castellan also does – with the Styx being referenced in Percy Jackson episode 7.

Percy Jackson’s Book Changes Bode Well For The Curse Of Achilles

Interestingly, it could be the case that the Curse of Achilles is somewhat altered for the Percy Jackson TV show. In the book, the Curse of Achilles somewhat lessens the tension of Percy’s character given his new immortal nature. The Curse strips away all fear that Percy could die save for an enemy finding the one vulnerable point he has at the bottom of his back.

In Percy Jackson and the Olympians though, changes have often been made for the better. Therefore, it is likely that the Curse of Achilles receives some kind of change from the books that makes Percy’s final story still have dramatic weight. Regardless, the teasing of the Curse of Achilles found in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 7 was a subtle one, teasing a story that may not be told for four seasons.
