1 Overlooked Action Movie Can Finally Get A Sequel After Almost 3 Years Of Silence

1 Overlooked Action Movie Can Finally Get A Sequel After Almost 3 Years Of Silence

Recent data proves one overlooked action film can finally get a sequel after its near three-year silence. John Wick 4‘s box office win highlighted the popularity of gun-fu-style films. Despite the franchise being in its fourth installment, people are still interested in fast-paced, high-octane action. While there has been debate over the likelihood of another John Wick film, its success alongside recent developments is a positive sign for another action movie. There has been no shortage of action films in recent years, but the choreography and unique fighting environments that the John Wick style offers have become the most popular as of late.

Few films have mastered this style of entertainment like John Wick, but one 2021 movie proved it could come close. A low-budget release exceeded expectations to become a financial and critical success. While it did receive strong reviews, the movie has become overlooked in recent years and managed to slide under the radar. However, the film has had a resurgence lately and indicates that it could have a positive future, with the potential to develop into an entire franchise. The action genre may be cluttered with all kinds of different mixed-performing movies, but this film looks to have plenty of potential as it nails the modern-day action style.

Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody Is Now A Big Hit On Netflix

Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody has found new popularity on Netflix, becoming a big hit out of nowhere. Although it performed well when it came out, the movie has found new life on the streaming platform, which is encouraging news for a sequel. After his latest TV show cancelation, Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody franchise becomes more important for the actor, and its Netflix success proves it may turn into a cult classic. Nobody‘s Netflix viewership numbers have increased as it accumulated nearly 7 million viewers in a week and entered the platform’s Global Top 10.

With the film getting more relevance through its Netflix audience, it positions it nicely for a sequel. The first one was relatively cheap to make as far as action movies go, and since it profited, a sequel seems logical. Considering it already had a positive response and is only continuing to grow, Nobody 2 could happen sooner than anticipated. Despite going quiet for nearly three years, Nobody has become popular once again, and it suggests that it is the type of movie people are looking for. It might not be the next big franchise people expected of Bob Odenkirk, but its recent growth indicates that Nobody could become massive.

The Future Of The John Wick Franchise Leaves A Gap In The Genre

1 Overlooked Action Movie Can Finally Get A Sequel After Almost 3 Years Of Silence

Plenty of films have drawn similarities to John Wick, but few do action quite as well and the franchise’s future could leave a gap in the genre. John Wick: Chapter 4‘s ending suggests the protagonist is dead, making future films much more difficult. The John Wick universe may be continuing with a spinoff movie in 2024 and The Continental which has already been released, but John Wick 5 is far from guaranteed. Plenty of updates about John Wick 5 have arisen yet its future is still unclear. Keanu Reeves and John Wick‘s director, Chad Stahelski, haven’t ruled out another movie, but also don’t want to sour the ending of Chapter 4.

Even if the universe continues through spinoffs, John Wick being killed off for good would leave a gap that Odenkirk’s movie could fill. Nobody and John Wick share many similarities, with their action style, close-quarters fights, and even overlapping plots. Nobody is the best option to replace John Wick as there are still plenty of stories to tell about the protagonist, Hutch, compared to John’s story, which seems complete. Odenkirk is also loved in a similar way to Reeves, which would also make Nobody 2 easier to get behind. Given Nobody has gained a wave of new fans, it could be the perfect time to step up and take John Wick‘s place.

What We Know About Whether Nobody 2 Will Happen

Nobody 2 has been confirmed, although there have been few updates recently about the status of the film. In December 2022, Nobody producer, Kelly McCormick, commented on Nobody 2, stating “We hope to make it next month” (via Digital Spy). It is unclear how far along production the film is though. While McCormick may have planned on a 2023 production, there is no suggestion that filming began. Even if the movie did begin some of its early stages, the SAG-AFTRA strikes would have impacted Nobody 2 as Odenkirk was a participant in them and most big movie and TV productions stopped.

The likely plans for Nobody 2 would have been filming in 2023 leading to a 2024 release date, but this no longer seems to be the case. If there has been private progress being made on the movie, then a late 2024 release could happen, but 2025 is the more realistic scenario. The silence around the film does raise some concerns about it potentially being scrapped. However, the recent popularity Nobody has received will hopefully mean it has been delayed or postponed, rather than axed completely. Although there hasn’t been recent news, Nobody 2 has yet to be officially canceled and can hopefully continue to propel the successful modern action genre.
