1 Oscars Win Could’ve Set Right A 39-Year-Old Academy Awards Complaint, Vindicating Oprah

One win at the 2024 Oscars could’ve set right a 39-year-old Academy Awards complaint, finally vindicating Oprah. Oprah Winfrey is one of the biggest names in Hollywood, and although she hasn’t won a competitive Oscar, this year’s ceremony finally had the opportunity to set things right.

The 2024 Oscars are happening, rewarding some of the biggest and best movies of 2023. The 2023 Oscars nominees include all kinds of potential awards for movies like Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things, The Holdovers, and more. However, one nomination could fix a major issue from 39 years ago, finally vindicating Oprah Winfrey.

Danielle Brooks Loses The Oscar For Best Supporting Actress, 39 Years After Oprah

Oprah Winfrey’s first Oscars nomination was for 1985’s The Color Purple, with her being nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Sofia. Interestingly, Danielle Brooks was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for 2023’s The Color Purple, an award that she lost as well to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers.

Oprah Winfrey’s big Oscars loss is considered a major disappointment for fans of the film, but this year’s ceremony had the chance to fix it. Although it didn’t happen, the 2024 Oscars could have awarded Danielle Brooks the Best Supporting Actress award for the role of Sofia. This would have been able to vindicate Oprah’s big loss at the Oscars, but it sadly didn’t happen.
