Hallows’ Eve, also known as Janine Godbe, emerges as a relatively unfamiliar figure among the array of villains in the Marvel Universe.
This enigmatic character made her initial appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #14, written by Zeb Wells and illustrated by John Romita.
Hallows’ Eve Possesses The Powers Of Captain America And Hulk
Initially known as the long-time girlfriend of Ben Reilly, the villain Chasm, Janine’s metamorphosis into Hallows’ Eve was facilitated by the mystical influence of the Goblin Queen, Madelyne Pryor. Janine is armed with an assortment of magical Halloween masks, each endowed with distinct and potent abilities, but it’s specifically two of these masks that make her Captain America’s and Hulk’s ultimate match. In Hallows’ Eve: The Big Night (2023) #1 – by Erica Schultz and Michael Dowling – Janine discovers she is able to harness the mighty strength of iconic superheroes Captain America and Hulk when puts on enchanted Halloween masks of the respective heroes.
The Captain America mask empowers her with enhanced speed, agility, and strength, aligning her with the physical prowess of the patriotic hero. Furthermore, it imbues her with mental and physical attributes reflective of Steve’s heroic persona. In comparison, the Hulk mask grants her unparalleled strength and indestructible durability. Similar to the Captain America mask, this transformation also infuses her with mental and physical traits emblematic of the Hulk. Endowed with these new abilities, Janine poses a considerable threat to both Hulk and Captain America, since she is equipped with abilities that mirror those that once set the heroes apart from others.
Captain America and Hulk May Face A Darker Version of Themselves
Unlike the ethical restraints that govern the actions of Captain America and Hulk, Hallows’ Eve is unrestricted; she is willing to venture into territories the heroes wouldn’t. This is a substantial concern for the heroes, given that few adversaries, especially a relatively new one, could pose a serious physical and mental threat to them. Gaining the powers of both Captain America and Hulk, suggests a looming clash between these heroes and their newfound formidable adversary. Whether this anticipated face-off becomes a reality or not, the appearance of an impostor wielding the combined strengths of Captain America and Hulk undoubtedly signifies imminent trouble for Marvel’s heroes.
