Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead finale.

The final moments of The Walking Dead series finale saw Daryl Dixon make a promise that teases a potential future crossover for the upcoming spinoffs. The finale of The Walking Dead’s main series was packed full of drama, action, and emotion, as Pamela Milton was finally brought down and peace was brought back to the Commonwealth. The episode ended with a time-jump one year into the future, which delivered scenes that helped to perfectly set up the upcoming The Walking Dead spinoffs featuring Daryl, Maggie and Negan, and Rick and Michonne, but this might not be the end for the whole group, as one line hinted at a possible crossover.

Maggie urging Daryl to find out more about the new world leads to him riding into the distance on a journey that will take him to Paris in the Daryl Dixon Walking Dead spinoff. Before his departure, Judith reveals that Rick is alive, and Michonne is searching for him, giving Daryl extra motivation to leave. Making a promise to Judith, Daryl states, “when I’m out there, if I hear anything, see anything, I’ll find them both, I’ll bring them home.” This practically confirms that a crossover will happen, since this line heavily nods towards one, and Judith getting her family back would mean these characters could finally get their happy ending.

How Daryl’s Walking Dead Spinoff Can Connect To Rick & Michonne

The Walking Dead season 10 revealed that Daryl spent years searching for Rick after his apparent sacrifice during season 9, episode 5, “What Comes After,” so it makes sense that Daryl would once again head out to look for his lost friend after The Walking Dead finale now that he knows he’s alive. However, there are still questions about why this mission would lead him to France. The Walking Dead: World Beyond established France as an incredibly important location in the virus outbreak and the creation of the variant, perhaps the CRM, who have Rick as their prisoner, know this information and would be likely to travel to France to attempt to develop a cure.

Why The Walking Dead’s Future Needs A Crossover

While The Walking Dead finale, “Rest in Peace,” wrapped up many loose ends, there are still many questions left unanswered. The spinoffs will deal with a lot of them, but they’ll also be continuing the stories of these much-loved characters and need to push the stories forward as well as solving existing Walking Dead mysteries. These characters have been in audiences’ lives for over a decade, so it’ll be hard to say a final goodbye while their stories are still incomplete.

The spinoffs will develop smaller-scale stories for these now-isolated characters, but it would be fantastic to see them reunite and fight one last battle together before finally putting The Walking Dead to rest. Viewers have been dying to see another emotional reunion along the lines of Carol greeting the group after Terminus, or Daryl reuniting with everyone after being imprisoned in the Sanctuary, though it could be guaranteed that this upcoming reunion would be much more impactful, as Rick has been thought-dead for several years. Whatever direction The Walking Dead spinoffs take, it would be great to see them intersect in a crossover, bringing all these beloved characters back together.
